- I'm giving 3 thumbs up to the stuff in this video. Milwaukee's Rotary Tool seems to work as expected. Dremel's quick connect cut-off wheels work good and so dose the cheep carbide burr set.

No need to explain why you got a new tool. For those who understand there are no questions, and for those who don't understand there are no answers
beautifully put
M12 dremels are on special right now
Exactly
100% 😁👍🏻
Fun comment.
Not true at all.
I had the battery powered dremel and I had the same problem with the battery. When I saw the M-12 version I figured it would most likely be a step up from what I had. So far, it has worked well for me with no issues. I hope it keeps chooching along for years to come.
I contemplated a battery powered Dremel but I went with a corded one. Considering how seldom I use it, that I don't want the battery to be dead when I need it and that I don't need the mobility, I think corded is the way to go for this type of tool.
@@skunkjobb you made the right choice. I almost never use my Dremel away from a power source. The batteries will need to be replaced eventually. No thanks.
Ave!
I use my M12 rotary tool on most jobs, this is a must have. There are so many usage for it from cutting tile, to cutting washers, small metal pieces, nails, screws, etc.
I have had so many laughs from you in your shorts. I really appreciate your content brother!
Thanks 😎👍🏻
Couple of things I've learned about this tool from other videos-I'm pretty sure a 2.0 battery only lasts around 6-7 minutes with this. Also, there's also a dremel quick change head for the bits themselves. You just take off the nut and collet and screw that one on and you don't need a wrench.
Man I tell you what, dremels are pretty well built. Atleast the one my pops got when I was really little. Late 90s. I still use it to this day.
Goat of TH-cam.
Thank you for the bloopers at the end I still have my cordless Dremel it would always die in the middle of a project now I have a corded one so much more power never dies I love it
The dremel 4486 keyless chuck is a great addition. No need for a wrench.
I have had one for several years. Absolutely love it.
I have the same rotary tool. Many uses in my shop.......mostly wood carving. Very pleased so far
I got one a few weeks ago to replace my worn out Dremel that I had forever and I already have plenty of M12 batteries. I mostly use it to sharpen my chainsaw chains in my shop and in my woodyard when my chains need a little touch up. Works great and I’m really happy with it.
I’ve avoided getting one. Getting a lot of Dremel-type work done with my DCS438. Love that thing! Was blindly cutting a line to an under-sink water heater last week where I had to reach around behind (couldn’t see). Thought I was going through the tubing when I was actually going right through the fitting! Still cut through like butter. :)
Haha Nice 👍🏻
Those quick-change Dremel discs are great. I've been using them for years. One caveat is that after a lot of use, the gold-colored collar that you pull back will get worn down from the vibration. I think it might be just aluminum, not sure. Mine's lasted a few years, but if you use it heavily, it might wear out quicker. Think of it as a long-term consumable and you'll be fine. It won't let go or wear out suddenly, you'll just notice the disc vibrating more. And as long as you're not reefing on hardened steel all the time, the discs have decent life. And they're easy AF to change. I lost too damn many of those little screws that hold the discs on, don't have to worry about that again.
Not sure if I need the Milwaukee tool yet, I'm never far from an outlet so I'll hang on to my corded Dremel for now. Looks like a nice tool should someone need something like that though.
the quick change dremel disc are hands down the best cutter for dremels ive used very easy to change, dont slip like the screw on ones and last really well
The great part about this tool is that it works with most of Dremel's attachments. I am not a serious tradesman, but got this more for working on 3D printed parts, crafting and small projects.
I got a plunge router and flex shaft attachment from dremel and they work great. Using the 4.0 batteries also keeps it fairly stable when using things like the flex shaft, won't roll around during use.
I was thinking about getting one for about a year and saw a deal at Home Depot a while ago and bought two M12 batteries and got it free. I've had two corded Dremels and this is just as good.
Just currently updating all my tools to Milwaukee. I’m a plumbing in the uk. Will be spending a fortune doing so.
Great video as usual
Worth it 👍
It’s not cheap switching brands. I want to get some M18 stuff but they haven’t made anything to convince me to not buy DeWalt
That’s foolish.
I don’t upgrade my tools until the tools I have, break.
The only time I would advise doing what you’re doing is if someone is new and doesn’t have any tools yet.
@@MrJruta It’s actually completely subjective.
I’ve seen people upgrade when they didn’t need to and waste lots of money. I would never make a general statement that something is worth it when I don’t even know what tools he has now, his budget or his income.
@@dangerous8333 fun at parties too, ain’t ya
I use mine mainly for wood carving and fyi, dremel accessories like the flex shaft attachment will fit the threads around the collet. Like you noted, it’s gets pretty heavy and awkward when holding it like a pen and those things are a wrist saver.
I use either the milwaukee or or dremel daily..small equipment/tool repair for a company that supplies tools to their installers..who beat the snot out of everything cuz they dont pay for their own tools..use those qwik change cutoff discs multiple times a day..they have qwik change grinding discs too..great for busting rust in tight areas.
I have had one of these for about 7 years. It's the best dremel that you can get.
Once I tried those EZ-Lock discs I never went back. I just looked up the new Milwaukee 2525 Brushless (but not FUEL, apparently) "Dremel." They advertise only a max of 27,500 rpm, but 30% higher ripems under load.
Those Dremel EZ-lock bits are nice. I had some a few years back.
I love the end of just normal no fluff cuts
Bought M12 cordless roraty tool, grinded some tungsten for TIG welder and bearing seized. Used dremel for same and no problem
First time I’ve heard them called an 1/8th die grinder. I like it.
Also Dremel for the quick disconnect has a Grinder head which is at a way different shape then those cut off wheels and it does great at bringing down welds and whatever else you need to grind off metal, also a head for cutting plastics too which I haven't tried yet!
New M12 Rotary Brushless Tool (2525-20) will be out in Q4 of this year. FYI
Thanks for the heads up. I was about to buy the current one but now I’ll wait.
Thank you, I was about to buy a Dremel but Milwaukee will be a much better fit with my other M12 tools. I'll wait for a updated or buy old one on sale
I find it funny that he can spot 9.5" so well 😏😏😏
It's come in handy a few times for me with either cut-off wheels or sanding drums.
Useless comment.
I actually bought this to cut out my automatic pilot bushing on my 300zx as it’s a steel on steel bushing with almost no lip to attach a slide hammer too and it was rust welded in so badly my slide hammer wouldn’t budge it.
To make a long story short those three little metal pins that hold the cutting wheel in place all sheared off and fell out of the tool all bent and shit, I ended up returning it and using my POS 10 year old corded dremel where the motor stalls if you press with more than 5lbs of force. It may have taken like an hour longer but at least the tool didn’t break.
Idk maybe I was just using it wrong but Thank god for Home Depot no questions asked returns.
The only issue i have with my cordless Dremel is that battery life. Full charge got me around 6 minutes of work. I only really use or for cutting plastic too, rarely though metal. That being said, they make so many cool attachments for them. For example, there a drill press attachment that you put your Dremel in and it functions like a small drill press. If i had known Milwaukee made one of these i probably would of just gotten that. Its nice when all your tools are using a the same batteries.
Any new tool day is a good day. Milwaukee being a bonus 👍
I bought one a few months ago and I really like it, I bought it because I have bunch of m12 batteries.
I'll never understand how people aren't terrified of cut-off tools. I've only ever had a chip of the blade fly off and it spooked me out of ever wanting to use one again.
Most people have to learn the hard way like me 😁
Compared to a cut off blade on a 5 inch grinder, a dremel blade coming apart is just an annoyance, assuming it doesn't lodge in your eyeball. Eye pro on, and it's a reasonably safe tool, especially compared to handheld angle grinders.
Face shields!!
just last week, i'm cutting off 3" worth of 1&1/2"x0.12"steel pipe with a 5" cutoff wheel.
as the end of one of the pipes cut through, it started to fall downwards, and hit the wheel. in the fraction of a second it was in contact with the pipe, it cut a line 1/8" deep in the bit of pipe, and then launched it 10 yards behind where i was standing. the wheel itself held up reasonably well, not useable, but certainly destroyed, leaving a 2" gash across the circumference of the wheel, but not completely shattering, i'm just glad my head wasn't in the pathway of the flying pipe, and it didnt hit the car i was working on.
(i'm just here to fit parts man, i hate paying for other ppls paint jobs).
even on a rotary tool, even if yr wearing safety glasses, having your face sprayed with ceramic shrapnel is not fun.
cutoff tools need supreme respect and care.
I've never had the balls to attach a cut-off wheel to one for anything but plastic.
You go to use it and the battery's dead - that's why I use AC or air tools, they may not be as handy as cordless, but they work when I need them for as long as I need them. If I did mobile work that would probably be very different, although I could have AC and air in the van.
Thank you funk always great tool reviews
I feel you on the "round" numbers. I always get called on it because technically they aren't round, but that shit is round enough to me.
Haha Exactly 😜👍🏻
Dremel makes those screw on wrenches already and it fits the milwuakee. Works pretty well
Love the show and would love to have you a livestream ASAP to talk about making a living on tools.
I mechanic makes the tool, but a good tool can also make a Machanic a life easier.
A lot of my subscribers would love to hear from someone like you
Keep up the good work
Isn't that the best thumbnail you've seen this month?!😂
Love your videos, keep up the good work!
When the tool quit it reminded me of my Craftsman 12v rotary, had a bad habit of just stopping because the battery latch wasn’t right. Should have returned it the first day, but for some reason I just kept thinking it would fix itself.
I like AvE’s tool review videos because he disassembles them and shows us how well or how cheaply they’re built on the inside.
I don’t like his tool review videos because he demonstrates them on totally unrealistic tasks.
So, I’ll keep watching his *and yours* to get the best of both worlds.
I had the same experience with the battery powered Dremel. Give me a half day’s warning so I can charge both battery packs, or make sure there’s an outlet so I can use the corded model. Other than that they’re tougher than they look. I mean they are really strictly intended to be home gamer hobby tools, not designed to be banged around on a job site. They’re kinda like that skinny guy with soft hands who turns out to be a machine. At least that’s my experience with Dremels.
Most die grinders go to five, but this one goes one more!
Foredom!!! The OG. You can run 1/8-1/4" burrs. More power baby! Great video, I like the milwaukee as well.
Definitely convenient to have a battery tool in terms of not maneuvering a cord around, and though my milwaukee and rigid tools never have battery drain issues if I take a hiatus, I noticed battery dremel tools were always dead at my former place of work. Personally I just got a new corded Dremel once I killed my mother's older corded one. The cord is a mild pain, but I'll never have to worry about a dead battery.
I don't have any M12 style tools though.
My only problem with the corded ones is finding a place to plug it in. You’d be surprised how many dead outlets are in warehouses 😊
In 20 years, I’ve never had an issue with the chord on any of my rotary tools. 🤷🏻♂️
It’s not a tool that gets used away from a power source that often either. This thing is big and bulky, and will need the batteries replaced at some point.
Guys will think of any excuse to waste money.
@@dangerous8333But most of us do not enjoy lugging around multiple 50 ft. extension cords for a hand tool.
The M12 is a pretty unique system. With the 4+ah batteries, the tools are the best 12v stuff out there.
Yeah, the batteries are getting better and the heck with dragging around a cord to trip over when I can leave it with the charger on the bench.
Nothing to do with this particular post, but I just saw one of your shorts, where you commented on rich folk. "They need us more than we need them". One of the most incisive observations, and cut-to-the-quick comments I have heard in a long time. You may not have intended it, or agree, but you have, in that short comment, stated the single most powerful reason why strikes and simply refusing to work or even hiring on, are one of the few truly powerful tools that the middle class has to resort to in the effort to improve our position. In the last few years that recognition has become more appreciated, and the working class is increasingly using it to their advantage. I understand that your posts are not political, but VERY MUCH PRACTICAL, and of a technical standpoint. And believe me, as a field technical advisor, I appreciate and laud that aspect too. I would suggest however, that you may have influence and insights in directions that your posts may not have ostensibly been intended. I tend to believe that you are well aware of that however. Hammer on Bro.
I like the ending. It reminds us you're just like us

All this time I knew you were a tool guy, well, a guy guy, tearing down the world's mechanics and shysters one TH-cam Short at a time.
I never knew though,
Brother, you fly? WHAT?!
I’ve been flying since 2014 😁 I haven’t flown much lately but I’m still into it.
Kudos for safety, had those little cutting disc fail on me in an unexpectedly violent ways
Another great video. Don't worry if you wear the same shirt to videos in a row cuz some TH-camrs actually record multiple videos in a day and just trickled them out so they don't have to record on a constant schedule. As for the quick disconnect discs, on softer things like copper and aluminum I've had them get gummed up and even when speed is consistent I've had them rip out the centers. But I'm hard materials they are awesome.
I have that same tool. Never let me down.
The new model will be brushless, for what it's worth. Thanks for the review!
Maybe they'll drop the price of this model?
Brushless has it’s benefits but I don’t see how it would help this aside from longevity. That’s not worth the extra $40 😜
@@user-lp7dd7dz9mI think they already did. If I remember right these were closer to $100 a couple years ago.
@@FunkFPV Looks like it's higher power, won't lug nearly as much under load.
Is the brushless one already out? Couldn't find any information on it
Greetings from Ireland. Great stuff. From what I understand the magic Chinese pliers could cut off that nut easily.
LoL 😝
Thank you for this video.
Thank you for properly testing the girth of itt
I like my tool with girth 😁
I have 2 of those quick disconnect things in my tool drawer. Never used them once, but I may think about them next time I'm reaching for the rotary.
For the tool they're definitely worth wile. And plenty strong
4:26 I recently replaced my old corded Dremel with the 12v Bosch "rotary tool" and the size came as a surprise. Not really a tool for prolonged use or delicate/intricate work and more often than not I use it with a snake drive.
My chick is a dog groomer and she loves her lil dremel for grinding and smoothing dog toe nails. The right tool for the job. They used to buy 2 $20 dremel from walmart and when 1 broke theyd buy another
Ten out of ten and thanks for playing
Omg you said “1 to 11 if you’re a spina tap fan”. Thanks you for my daily dad joke.
The ending is the best part
I use the dremel flex shaft and tool less chuck on my Milwaukee rotary tool. For me it makes it 100 times more convenient to use with the flex shift.
I might pick one of those up 👍🏻
I bet the dremel wand attachment thing would be awesome on that sense it probably has more power
Like the video. I do wonder how the spindle lock will fair vs the Dremel.... That's usually the thing that goes bad for me first. Then I'm sticking allen keys in the thing to change bits.
Store you battery tools w/o the battery in prolongs the discharge time drastically. Milwaukee also offers a straight 1/4 die grinder. its' part number is 2486
Nice tool...May buy...
Had this tool and got rid of it bc the thermal cut out kept triggering on mine. Similar problem to the 1/4” die grinders and brushed multi tool. Caused me to abandon the entire m12 line. There is a brushless rotary tool Milwaukee announced for sale soon that hopefully does away with that problem.
I’ve had one for a while. I love it for cutting things in tight spaces and it’s easily portable. It has a weird issue now where it’ll only work if I leave the switch on THEN put the battery in. It’s a bit scary
Haha this one doesn’t turn on if the battery is plugged in when switch is on. Maybe you got a backwards one 😜
Good for tight spaces?
It’s way larger than any corded Dremel I have. 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve never needed my Dremel to be portable. I’m a metal fabricator, and I use them all the time and with my hobby shop at home too.
I love Milwaukee but this tool is a waste of money.
@@dangerous8333some people don't have wall power or a generator.
Lol that reminds me, we had the trigger on a 7" grinder get stuck at work. It's a busy shop, we all kinda forgot about the trigger until one of us went to plug it in and it INSTANTLY took off across the shop lmao. Yeah it went directly into the dumpster after that one. Those things can move FAST lmao
I like how dea it you are. Thank you for your videos and shorts. 10 out of 10 for style. 👍
Real not dea. Sorry my screen is messed up.
Sorry one last note. Ryobi makes the same "quick connect cut off wheels" that are less expensive but Dremel definitely has the better holder for them. (when you're looking to resupply)
In my experience the point of failure on these type of tools are the bearings, they just were not designed well and you get a lot of run out on them when you use them with too many cutoff discs.
I used mine 1 time and it broke. Milwaukee replaced it under warranty though and my second one has been going good so far.
Nice dremel bro.
i use the mil right angle "drill" it has a chuck like a standard cordless drill. but the mil batteries from when we first got them have a "push and snap" battery cover on the top where the contacts are. and the snaps always break. but a later revision of the same battery dont have the snap cover on them. and are great. curious on your experience with the mil battery and if there's a better solution for them
If Mitch McConnell did tool reviews
Difference between this one and new is brushed and new one is brushless
Both are great tho. I have same one you do and hasnt let me down yet!
I wiping a dorito crumb off my screen and accidentally liked the video. Well there you go
I definitely have been considering getting one of those. The dremel one is not a bad tool but the batteries are garbage. Not only you always have to charge them before you've use them. They don't hold very long either, at least in my experience.
This thing is junk and so is the battery power Dremel. Just get yourself a nice small corded rotary tool and you will be happy.
And they die within a year.
Then it’s cheaper to replace the whole thing rather than buying a replacement battery.
I work at a hardware store that sells this tool and so far I've sold a bunch of these, and in 5 years we haven't had a single one returned for any reason, defective or disappointing performance. From the retail perspective, my only complaint is it doesn't have a good way to attach a security cable to it or to connect it to a fall protection lanyard. I wish it had a small lanyard loop but as someone who has to sell powertools, I wish literally every power tool ever had a 3/8" lanyard loop somewhere on it
A lanyard would be nice. Maybe the new one will have one.
So you’re saying marketing works?
Also, I haven’t needed to return a Dremel either.
Battery powered rotary tools are unnecessary and a waste of money.
@@dangerous8333 for context, the battery powered dremmel is returned to my store semi frequently as defective. Seems it has a relatively high defect rate. The Milwaukee doesn't have that problem. You are probably right about battery tools being unnecessary, but it's my job to sell them so I try to pay attention to which ones tend to have issues so I can steer my customers towards a more reliable product. People pay a premium to not drag power cords around.
Yes to more bloopers
I always forget to add them. I have a lot 😝
I already went thru two of them and am on my 3rd. Not as heavy duty as I hoped.
Lucky for me I probably won’t use it that much.
Nice review. I think you missed some enuendos (enuendi?).
This looks like it might work with my dremmel flex extension shaft. Maybe.
Looking at your cutting demo reminds me that I need to recut the cross hatch grooves in a couple of ancient vices that I picked up at an estate sale.
I could prolly drill out/extract the old screws, but it might be easier with the rotory. These things have got to be from the 1940-50s.
It works great with the Dremel Flex Shaft! Put it on my M12 and haven’t taken it off since.
@@cnote9958 Thanks. That's a win since I have the M12 stuff and don't need yet another battery setup.
I dont like using manual tools either..but whatever it takes to get the job done right ill go for.
Spend 10 $ on the 3 jaw chuck make sure and get the dremel brand one. The knock offs suck. But no wrenching every time you change bits is nice
love mine, you will use it more than you think.
That cutting out with the disc is because you can load it to the point where you cause the battery voltage to drop and current jumps up so it thinks theres a problem and cuts to protect itself .... you get used to it with time....
I wanna see you on that skateboard!
Love the videos mate, twimc i bought the genuine Dremel 5mm round diamond sharpening bits to sharpen hedge trimmers, they weretn able to sharpen one tool, but the cheapo ebay ones ($20aud each for dremel vs $1-2 each for cheapos) i fouund the ebay bits lasted at least 5 times longer. Just my 2c, hope it helps someone
I wanted to bug one of these because of the battery situation, as in I use other m12 tools. I thought this would be one of the new M12 tools they would be releasing soon, a brushless fuel version.. maybe more compact but didn’t see it.
Figured I enjoy the shorts. Now check out full length vids! (As far as the battery goes.. I swear I watched a video(not that it means it works) that was showing how to revitalize a dead battery to hold a charge or be able to charge again.. hmm have to look)
Overall I'm happy with mine, but it does seem to stall a little easier compared to a similar sized Dremel I use at my work if you're a little to aggressive cutting something
Is the Dremel at work corded, if so, that’s why.
@@dangerous8333Nope, prolly just not some old crap like the dremel in this video. Dremel model 8220 & newer = more torque than milwakee m12
@@chantalheen484yeah, it’s not a fair comparison to have the new Milwaukee up against an older (and smaller battery) Dremel. The 8220 would have been a better comparison.
This should be on the what the hell were you thinking episodes😁🤣🤣
Hey Mr.Funk don't get me wrong .....new tools are the shit...nah nah nah naaaa!!! Congrats my friend ENJOY,👍
Yeah I switched to the other cordless dremmel. Less powerful but holds charge better & the battery has lasted way longer than that one.
Does the dremel flex shaft hook up to the milwaukee rotary tool or do they make their own flex shaft?
i work on vehicles for a living. i used a chinesium burr in my rotary tool the other day, it blued within seconds on mild steel. i'd half expect the thing to shatter itself on any decent steel.
as soon as i noticed the blueing (after a quick 1-2 second test grind) i took the dangerous thing out and put in reputable brand.
I use mine often. The only thing I wish it was offered in a fuel version. Mine has to be started on a higher speed then slowed down or it will just hum and she'll let the smoke out.
Ha great out take❤
Have you ever tried using the 12 volt Dremel? It cost $100 but it's my favorite because it also runs on my Bosch 12-volt batteries.
Im wondering how the newest Dremel brushless model does... Especially since its batteries are significantly easier to get. (Bosch 12v batteries)
"I don't like being like a gorilla using manual tools" lol
