1971. Man, do I wish I could go back there. I'd just graduated high school in Northern NJ. I had a car, a little job, not much money but boy did I have fun! My first summer of total freedom!
I grew up in Scotch Plains and this was my favorite place since I was six, I am 65 now and I rave about SH. I am going back to show my adult children where I hung out ,
Carol, you will barely recognize the boardwalk, or what's left of it. Took a stroll on there a few months back and I couldn't hold back the tears. Thank goodness for the mask,or I would have been incredibly embarrassed . I can't believe the change and the proposed change that is coming. Awful.
@@carolvedder3555 Gregg is correct. Here I’m writing from 5 mins away from scotch plains ( still a good neighborhood) that seaside heights has become an unwelcoming place. The local scene is just not there- just awkward people from who knows where. Wildwood and cape may is better. Cape may still is old school way. Let’s keep it down before it changes as well.

My God do I remember those Days!! I really miss my Dad man he was so young and cool!! It was always me and him I had No siblings lost my mom when I was 11 months old! My Father would of been 32 around this time 1970! I swear I thought the man Was a walking God!! So much Fun!!

October is not an easy month for me I been thinking of my Dad so much the past week his Birthday the 9th he would of been 82!! 13 years ago today I brought him home from Hospital he knew I was bringing him home to die as he said while we drove home!! So frail at just 69 was this Cool Ironworker 5’8” and Strong as an Ox he had the same build as if you remember Sammy the bull Gravano a good friend from old days!! Anyway I couldn’t believe what he became as I said So frail for the next 13 days I would see firsthand up close each day as the CANCER spread insanely and rapidly alone with a little Boston Terrier BUCK we would comfort him as best as we could and on the early morning of November 2, he was gone just like that! A life of a FATHER A FRIEND A CO-WORKER AND UNION BROTHER gone!! I think of him every time as this time of year rolls by! I miss him and I can’t tell you the memories I have!! Good God how did time pass so fast!! Thank You for this reminder who ever you may be I’m going too watch this video again for the memories and a little cheering up!! Seems a lot more fun back in the 70s some things are the same but some things look a lot more fun like the rides , and way more activities and stuff like a pageant show and talent show. It would be nice to have stuff like that for kids and for the town.

I’m glad that it’s still doing its best to thrive, but sad that everything it once was seems to be gone. I love these videos, though, for all of the nostalgia of a better time. Absolutely love and loved seaside heights from seeing the ferris wheel over the bridge to tell you,that you have arrived in the "HOME OF SUN AND FUN" stayed at the surfside motel right on the boardwalk next to Luckey Leos. Anyone remember the beach warnings( stay out,stay??)
Those of us who lived through that time and are still living now know it was a better life back then. Not just because we were young, but everyone wasn't so busy, in a rush and in everyone else's business. Slow down, enjoy, live, love laugh. Also......Did you also notice???? Where are all of the fat and out of shape people in this video? Only memories to cherish, a time never to return.
Brings back fond memories of my youth, and an incident when my first born was just 1 year old I was trying to win a stuffed animal for her , and thought my wife was watching her in the stroller. My wife wanted to encourage me to win, and stepped away from the stroller. This was still a time you thought you could trust people. My wife turned around to check on our daughter, and saw a man wheeling the stroller away. He was pushing it casually, like it was his child. My wife panicked, and I went chasing the guy up the boardwalk after he let go of the stroller. He must have ducked into an alley, because I couldn't find him in that crowd. We don't know what we would have done, or what would become of our daughter, had a few seconds more gone by. Happily, she just turned 50 years old, and we still think about what could have been, with our precious daughter on a day of fun.
This is my area. I lived in ocean county my whole life. I'm 61 now and I worked at the naval air warfare center and I'm retired from there. Now it has become like a city and I want to get out of the area.

This was the sanitised version, I'm sure. The real point of Seaside Heights was all the drinking, and cheap motels you could crash at. I don't ever remember actually going to Seaside Heights, but I vividly remember waking up there. It's kind of like Boston, in that regard.

@@brianb7423 I got my license and 1st car in 1986 so thereabouts would have been the timeframe I remember. It was at that tender age that I noticed that it's best to avoid drinking when the sun is out, especially when at the shore. In 86 I was living in Elmwood Park NJ and thought the shore was too far so me and my friends scouted out as many of the shore points that were closer and discovered it's all industrial like Elizabeth, Kearny, Bayonne, all those places, so we gave up and just went swimming in the Passaic River on the Garfield side by Kiggi Island. Yes. We actually did, and lived to tell about it.
Believe me when I say this. I went to Seaside back in the late 60s and it was everything that this video pointed out. I believe it started getting roudier in the late 70s when I visited again. I was very dissapointed to see the change for the worse. But in the late 60s, in my opinion there was no better place to be.
@@louisd95714 The 60s were the best time to be alive, from what I hear. I was born in 68 so some of that era still lives in my soul. That was also the heyday of the Jersey shore, but since the 60s-70s it's been on a downward slope and not just Seaside but Asbury Park, Atlantic City, and Wildwood are pretty trashy these days. The only place that's still nice (last time I checked) is Wildwood Crest.

I was 6-15 during the 70's and hung out almost every summer at Seaside while staying at my buddies place off the water they owned. They had money, I was the poor lad who was best friends with their only son :) . Man, I wish t was the 70's again! Thanks for the memories as I have subscribed to your channel .
It was eerie seeing the Jet Star,the ride that was shown to be in the ocean after Sandy.Of course,most of us living in NJ couldn't see it as it happened-unless you lived in the ghetto as their power was restored before midnight on the 31st when the EBT cards had to be refilled.The rest of us were left powerless for days afterward-regardless of your medical situation.Those politicians don't fear a riot emanating from you.
