  • How to fix a Gaggia or Saeco automatic espresso maker that displays the "Brewunit blocked message"
    Note: If you are not replacing the whole board, you need to diagnose which component failed. Take a look at this blog by Tomas Kovacik for help: raphtec.wordpr...
    In the video, I mentioned that it would be sufficient to change the transformer. I assumed that is the part that most likely failed. Actually, other components on the board may fail. I didn't bother to check which failed because I was replacing the whole board. And clearly, I am not an expert in electronic repairs or I would have fixed mine instead of replacing it. Spare boards are becoming hard to find. Replacing the faulty components may be your only option at this time.
    See also my other video for fixing the steam valve of the Gaggia Titanium.

    Tomas Kovacik provided this useful information. I am not sure why his comment doesn't show up below. I am copying it here.
    I repaired my saeco incanto deluxe : after changing TIP33C transistor ( in my case I use 2sd1047 one I have around) and it worked! desoldering require some skills and patience, do not overheet board and you will be fine. more info In this blog: raphtec.wordpr...

    Hi all, after acquiring one of these units with this fault I went at it and found the same issue you describe here. The issue with my unit though was the large TIP33 transistor had blown. Replacing this sorted the issue.

      👍 I will try cleaning and lubricating the brew unit before I attempt any inner work with electronics.

      Do you recall which TIP33 you replaced? I believe there are seven on my main board…

    Hi to all. Here the same problem. Motor is rotating very slow. I solved the problem and I can confirm , that problem is transistor TIP33C - this is the biggest component on the aluminium heatsink. The transformer is for low power electronics - display , CPU and has nothing to do with power components - motors , pumps , solenoids.

    The AC voltage at the 3 bigger wire is 36 and 110v . I have 13 v at transfo output

  • @Zari_Ivanov
    @Zari_Ivanov ปีที่แล้ว

    Also , I am pretty sure that this motor is AC and operates at 30 volts AC ( maybe even more) . The author of the video measures the voltage in DC mode , that's why he receives 9 volts.

    Thanks for the video! I got a replacement transformer, and soldered it in, but unfortunately, the voltage is still low (around 6v) the spindle still turns slowly, and the unit still reads Brewunit Blocked.
    Michele - you mentioned you had the schematics - where did you get hold of them?

      @@matrovero thanks - I had found this one already, I thought maybe you had the detailed PCB schematics. I suspect that there may be a 9V regulator that is blown, since changing the transformer hasn't had much effect - so I'm in the process of trying to identify the different regulators on the PCB.

      I am sorry I don't have that information. My machine has been working well since I replaced the board and I had no interest in reopening it. I have since found this blog which describes the same problem in detail for a similar board: raphtec.wordpress.com/repairs/saeco-cafe-nova-repair-2-brewing-unit-motor-controller/ and includes a reversed-engineered diagram. I hope that has some useful information for you.

    Hi Michael, I replaced the transformer as you suggested but it didn’t improve the voltage which is about six volts. Did anyone work out the actual component which was at fault? Otherwise I have to change the entire board as you did. Many thanks. Grant

    • @matrovero
      @matrovero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I didn't spend time diagnosing the board. I just assumed the transformer was the culprit. My bad for providing incorrect information. There are a voltage regulator and a capacitor connected to the transformer. I would start with checking those.

    Ja same problem. Problem is where to order the board

    • @matrovero
      @matrovero  ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered from Whole Latte, but now it's out of stock. Looking at the schematics, and alternate parts numbers (see e.g www.enco-vending.com/image/data/files/Gaggia/TITANIUM_NEW.pdf), I was able to find one from Cerini www.cerinicoffee.com/products/pcb-power-control-board-titanium . I ordered parts from them before. Alternatively, you can take your board to any electronic repair shop and check and repair the TIP33 transistor. It should be a lot cheaper than a new board.

      I shoudl add the the board I pointed to is for 120V (USA). If you are in a 240V area, the power supply is different.
