  • CompIQ TWAIN is a precision tool for dynamic audio processing of bass and guitar signals, which forges a new path in the world of compressors.
It features adaptive auto-attack & release timing presets and independent compression controls for knee, threshold, ratio, and make-up gain - on each band. It can work as a dual-band compressor/limiter with variable crossover point, or as a stacked compressor with separate controls for each analog engine - at the flick of a switch. In either mode, harmonic saturation can be injected on each of the dry line band’s, and then be mixed to taste with the wet compressed line for perfect tonal balance. Separate gain reduction displays make the compression effect visible, so you can always know how hard or soft the lows and highs are processed.
Recorded direct: Instrument - Twain - RME Babyface
Many thanks to Adrian Ciuplea (bass) for recording this video.

A discussion on the Talkbass forum has been raised regarding the loudness of the compression effect in this demo video for the CompIQ Twain (when compared to the dry takes). To clear things out: it was intended. We exaggerated all the settings throughout the video, not only in the dry/compressed sections but also in the mix of the bass over the music backtrack. This is not how you would mix a piece in the studio, of course. This is a demo where bass compression had to be made audible - on the instrument alone and over the backtrack. It is rather hard to make a bass audible and distinct when listening on the phones and tablets, and we had to factor this in as well. This video was not intended as a mixing class demo. We thought the dynamics are what we need to demonstrate, not the accuracy of the levels. Of course, in usage, everyone would set the compression effect based on their particular application.
Follow up the discussion on the subject on this monster-thread about compressors. It is fun and very instructive reading.
