I absolutely love the idea a clamshell GBA-SP-like Miyoo handheld with dual analog sticks, but with that being said, the placement of said analog sticks makes me question the ergonomics of the entire thing. I'll wait to see what others have to say about how it feels first.
I am also hoping for the Retroid Flip 2
I'd love to see more "funtastic" colors. The black Miyoo Mini+ is the only real attractive color to me these days (out of what's offered). That RGB20 device with the SNES blue looks really, really nice. I just have no nostalgia what-so-ever for the DMG colors as a 90s kid.
The ZPG A1 Unicorn looks real cute, not gonna lie. I love that the depart is smack dab in the middle there.
Am I the only one who wants a clone of the Game boy Micro? Man I'd love to have that form factor kind of improved with a bigger display, but keeping the same size and even the features, with a bit extra battery and more capable
Always keeping us in the know and up to date, awesome video 👍🏾
Appreciate it!
Someone needs to remake the Trimui Model S, but all metal, longer battery life, and can play up to PSP.
I'm holding out hope for an updated RG556 with better colours and sticks 🤞🏻
That zpg alternative to the rgb30 has me intrigued. Didn’t expect to want that, I’ve always wanted the rgb30 for its screen, but if this one is more ergonomic and powerful I’d buy it. But it would have to have a good build quality.
It's definitely more powerful. It should be coming out at the end of the month. I'm going to buy one too.
A plastic and hopefully cheaper 405m is what I'm hoping for, the 405m just doesn't make much since these days because of the price, the Retroid pocket 2s and 3+ are cheaper, and the rp4 is about the same price, but the 405m has what I want, a 4 inch 4:3 screen.
Handhelds I found interesting
• Of the confirmed upcoming:
The only one that really floats my boat is the ZPG Unicorn. I like the looks, the Sega D-pad, the performance should be fine for what I play, the price shouldn't be too hard on my wallet, and I like that it runs Android so it'll be really easy to just copy over stuff from every other Android I own.
I'm ambivalent about the screen aspect ratio. It exists and I'm sure I can ignore the black sections. In fact, having a big blank area below the average game instead of flanking it like on a normal widescreen could give me the perfect space to place some onscreen buttons to supplement the hardware buttons.
• Of the rumored models with pictures:
I am all over the GKD ZPG Bubble. I adore its Game Gear inspired looks. I kind of wish it were using a 4 inch screen instead of 3.5 inches; but, beggers can't be choosers. I'm not sure what OS it's running. I presume some flavor of Linux and I'm fine with that. I've been kind of wanting an excuse to dabble in that realm anyways. I don't want to pay anywhere near $100 though for the privilege. At that price I'd get a Pocket 2S, which is cute in its own way and markedly more capable. I like Sega, yes, but, not that much, you know?
• Of the rumored models without pictures:
The RG406 is that device. Although, unlike you, I'm hopeful it's a 405V replacement instead of the 405M. The V was all rubenesque for comfort and had a fan for endurance. It just needed a little more power, in my opinion.
A few weeks ago a number of reviewers got a generic Linux handheld called the M18 in for testing. Its claim to fame was that it was a vertical handheld with a PSP screen. The overall style and detail work screamed, "Product design is my passion!" but the basic layout has a lot of merit in my eyes. Maybe the years of using phones clipped to controllers has broken my brain. Something did...
Inspired by both the M18 and my not so latent brain damage; I'd kind of like to see the RG506 you mentioned come to market as a wider 405V. Give me a comfortable vertical handheld wide enough to accommodate that 5 inch OLED panel and packing enough performance to actually be able to use every pixel. That would be enough to get me off the schnide and into the Anbernic Owners Association. I think.
I just want something that has the screen and comfort of the Anbernic RG556 but the performance of the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro.
but I also don't want to spend more than $250 😭
IMO most people looking for some unicorn handheld would be best served buying an RP4P or Odin 2 today, checking out of this news/review scene, and playing games.
I'd love to see devices with the old Western Bar form factor - flip up design so that we have enough space for two screens but the controls aren't covered with the screen down, meaning full-size buttons and sticks.
No sooner did you mention the RG28xx and video of it appears the next day
Thx for the video. I will wait for the miyoo A30 plus that I’m sure will come out some day. Hopefully it will have a bigger screen and right side analog stick.
I think the ROG Ally 2 also needs to have two USBC ports so that you can have it on power supply while plugging in any accessories you need.
I like this video style. I'm always curious about what's next on the horizon. It helps hold me back from settling on something that's currently available just because im inpatient. The miyoo products I'll keep my eye on for the pocketable handheld. The Ally 2 I'm also interested in for x86. I skipped the Ally 1 for the SD OLED and while I love the OLED there's part me of that would like a super powerful handheld that can handle the latest AAA games, I'll gladly sacrifice some battery life because I never play longer than 1-2 hours at a time anyway.
If you have an OLED Steamdeck then you’re good for a few years.
I have a question about the RG556 joystick installation. In the video you use a TR6 bit (blue shell), but another tutorial uses an Allen wrench (black shell). Does that mean the different colors have different screws? Also, if not, does that mean I actually only need a T6 and not TR6? I have the black shell, but I just need to know what I have to buy. (I personally just believe I need a small enough Allen wrench, and there are different screws for different shell colors.)
Excited for the Miyoo Flip and the Ally 2!!🙌 Great vid subscribed!
Loving the news. Tuning in every week . I’d rather have a Saturday show personally
The Miyoo flip will sell like crazy
I'm just excited for the ZPG A1 Unicorn, ZPG Bubble, and the Miyoo Mini Flip.
My handhelds are Switch, Steam Deck, Miyoo Mini V4, and RG35XX H a lot is going to have to change for me to consider another for awhile. Cool seeing what's upcoming though.
I really wish these devices came with actual names rather then numbers/letters. I get so confused.
The biggest thing I want this year is a 4:3 handheld with a powerful gamecube/ps2 chip like the d900 or d1100. Played a couple gc/ps2 games on my rp3+ and realized i just do not like playing them in 16:9, if retroid threw a 4 inch screen on the 2s and put a d900 in it and call it the 2s+ or 2x or something that would be perfect
Exited for the RG35XXSP because I love the powkiddy v90
Retroid Pocket 5? Next year maybe?
Almost certainly
Yeah, I don't see them releasing a 5 in 2024 with how well the 4 Pro is selling.
Sounds boring, it's probably going to be another recycled bland generic brick with no ergonomics.
@@Pridetoons works for cell phones, this year is titanium, wow
@@michaelbenny659 Cell Phones aren't Gaming Devices tho.
Great video! Love the studio backgroud.
Thanks buddy. I'm not really grabbing devices anymore but I must say if miyoo decided to make the mini+ in the transparent blue color I would buy one. They told me numerous times that they won't so I guess I'm still good with what I got.
that Anbernic 289 XX (or whatever it was called) is very appealing.
I’ve been after a horizontal device without sticks that has 4” screen for awhile now and that may just be what I’m looking for
Give me an RP Flip 2, an RG406 but make it vertical (an improved RG405V basically, I want my perfect Game Boy!) and an RG Arc 2 with enough power in it to play all Saturn games comfortably on an accurate core, and I'll be set for a long long time.
A lot of hopium here unfortunately, hopefully at least one of these happens soon! AMOLED screens on any of them and I pay top dollar!
I am trying to focus on what you are saying, but all I can do is think I about the placement arrangement of the vertical and horizontal handhelds on the shelf behind you
What'd I do now Mr Benny
I have a deck lcd for 1.5 years now and I love it. Thinking about the rog ally 2 if your wishlist come true.
2024 will be better than 2023. So many options to choose. Can't wait!
I really want to pick up an orange pi neo. Rog ally 2 likely launch at the end of the year though imo
Portmaster on miyoo flip, i hope.
Still waiting to upgrade my Retroid Pocket 2+ with a 4:3 handheld that can play Dolphin/GameCube with 0 issues. Probably a few years away, but super excited.
Playing games like that on a tiny screen and a small device sounds like a not fun experience.
thanks joey - retroid flip2 would be fantastic - definitely interested in what the makers of the r36s come up with next - the r36s is probably the best bargain handheld ever in my opinion
Great content as always bro
I was excited for the pocket s. But it's been so long I have had to move on. Could not stick with the retroid 2 plus forever
expected Miyoo to have the nicer looking device but the 35xx SP looks so faithful to the SP that to me it looks better. I don't like sticks on a device that doesn't have the power to utilize them
Awesome video Joey
How likely do you think that miyoo mini restock tweet is what's actually going to happen? Id like to get one for a normal price
I have the same concerns about small handheld makers but I'm in a holding pattern until the Orange Pi Neo releases. I don't want Windows on another PC handheld (have the Legion Go and SD OLED). That's just a non starter for me so I put Bazzite on the Go. I didn't think I'd dislike Windows on the Go as much as I do when I bought it or I might not have gotten it to be honest. Bazzite has been its saviour for me in gaming mode and on desktop too.
I'm crossing my fingers that the ZPG A1 Unicorn will turn out to be a good device. I love the RGB30 on paper, but the hardware issues make it a no-go for me. I'll also be keeping an eye on the Powkiddy RGB20SX.
hardware issues? I haven't had any problems with mine. Plus, it has one of the best looking screens out there.
What are this for nice Handheld-Stands? 3D-Printet?
Im still holding out for the rp6 pro+ with my trusty rg35xx
Rgb20sx and rg28XX just got released at the same day.
I'd like a new 405m, so the 406. the 4 inch square screen was nice, just need more horsepower and modern features like HDMI out, current android OS, etc.
You forgot the ayaneo pocket dmg, it is supposed to be released between the 1st and 2nd quarter of this year
You're right, I did.
I want the damn flip already, HOPEFULLY runs ps1 decently.. imagine that formfactor and analog sticks playing PS1 D:
What does the CH3 in the intro mean?
Throwback to using channel 3 to play games on the SNES.
My lizard 🧠 is most excited for Miyoo Mini Flip. I think maybe handheld of the year. Great Vid!
ty...very informative.
very intertersted in the ZPG1 unicorn. It looks bulkier than i expected and if the price it right with good performance it could be awesome. Wanna know what the Orange Pi neo will do aswell and what the pricing will be. And lastly i gotta say that i would hope for a little bit more performance in the Rog Ally 2 eventhough it might affect battery life. Can someone please design a betetr typoe compact battery that could actaully provide a weeks play!! know its bit of apipe dream but maybe someone out there hears me lol.
That ZPG A1 is so weird.... I'd love to see that chip in a 4:3 handheld but going with the 1:1 screen just makes absolutely no sense on a chipset that powerful
The longer we wait, the better it gets.
In a couple of years we are going to have the perfect definitive handheld for 150-180€.
Only the hardware will be made in China: the software and the OS are going to be 100% community made, therefore customized and impeccable.
It is ridiculous to have all these consoles and none of them exempt from one or two serious hardware or software defects, regardless of price.
Wowowo!! Thats a baby game gear! I want one!
Horizontal miyoo mini device could be quite a great device if it has onion
15:58 crazy! I'm the opposite. I'd love the power of the Ally but Windows is a deal breaker (source: I owned both an Ally and a SD Oled).
Experia Play - Style Slider Handheld With PSP-like Sticks Please!
If the Miyoo Mini A30 is plug and play onion os I’m probably buying day 1
I'm burned out with these devices as of lately, But if I do get another device it will be a gaming phone, I can actually make calls on, with physical controls......cough cough (Ayaneo).....cough
Trimui should have released the Brick instead of the Pro!
So no rg506!?
Desperately want the orange pi neo
Excellent video but the 5,000 commercials are infuriating
I'm all about the Miyoo things, not sure about the rest. I'm kind of with you on the x86 devices, I feel like especially at the price points shown...might as well just get another PC or a steam deck.
I’m hoping for a sub 100 option that can play ps2 without many issues.
To be honest, I think the RGB20SX is for people who want an upgrade to the original RGB20S.
RG406 FTW
I just want a switch sized device that can run Steam OS.
Such confusing names for these devices. Especially Anbernic.
OMFG COOOL MUGG WTF ITS BLASTOIDS
A Nintendo GBA SP clone of really high quality materials is an instant buy for me. I am not interested in handhelds that are not easily pocketable or transportable.
Anbernic rg556 + ..........
Pretty sure they showed the real so and there's no sticks
need more 16:9
Retroid pocket duo...
An rg406 is the knly think I care about...
I miss you saying "I'm Joey" it's kind of your trademark, bro.
Agreed
All I want is an updated rg 405 but plastic so I'd actually carry it around in my pocket without the metal weight. The rumored 406 looks ugly and is just a rgb 30 variation 🤮.
im a game dev related to the atari family tree. i worked on gba and early ds game dev while working on the fable trilogy and mtg xbox first inhouse game dev team among decades of other projects. i have to point out these compact gba like designs were all revisions of the k101 revo rpgr board engineering. you notice the single stick handheld looks much like the revo but updated. this was the 3.0v revo removing the gba cart and link ports because flashcarts are pretty much just a microsd card reader replaces the board plus it has much higher emulation potential to step a little past a regular gba ram.
The market is becoming really oversaturated. Every time u get something, sonething better comes out before u know it
Like I always say just purchase Handhelds within a Niche.
All these upcoming Android Handhelds... Meh. A Device will rise & fall with it's Firmware. We've seen it partially with the RG35XX Plus and it will get worse this year.
i made it 70 like no more 69 haha
