- The thrill of being a maker is that you can take something from your imagination and actualize it. I had a very specific need for a stand to sit on my desk as I try to read long-form audio material. Sure, I could have searched the internet to find something that would have sort of worked. But I didn't. Instead, I built exactly what I wanted, and it looks downright stylish too. Let me be clear though, being a maker is not about saving time or money. It took three days of work to do this build, and while I have the good fortune to have amassed a shop of tools and supplies in my garage through various circumstances, the average person would have to spend more time and more money then I did on this build. That which drives a maker is the process and the ownership of making something that is truly yours.
This is the biggest video project I have done to date. I want to think some TH-camrs for inspiring me and keeping me interested and motivated to make things over the years:
Adam Savages's Tested has been a go-to for years when I need to feed my mind new ideas or just have some fun. / testedcom

I Like to Make Stuff with Bob is another channel that is not only informational but inspiring, and his builds are always quality. / iliketomakestuffcom

Evan and Katelyn are just fun. And crazy, don't forget crazy. Their videos are entertaining aside from their projects and builds which continue to be... imaginative. And full of resin.

Excellent work. Just what I was looking for to build
Awesome! I do find great satisfaction in just building something to serve a need. Oh... to have a wood working shop! 😍You're living the dream, my friend!
Very beautiful
Very nice
Don't stop you will stick to your target.
Could I get the pattern? Please. It is hurting my back to read my Bible bent over the table and this is the first thing I found that might fit my needs. I am 75 but I feel sure I could do this with correct measurements.
I'm sorry, but since I mainly made it out of scraps I didn't take the time to make a pattern for it.
Nice design. How do you keep a large art book open without destroying the binding or any of the pages?
It was not designed to support a book that large. Mainly it was made to hold a tablet or Kindle. If I wanted to to hold a larger book, I would make some flaps to fold out from the center to triple the width. I would also need to upgrade my lockdown system so that it could support that kind of weight too.
To hold the pages open I would have to design some sort of clamp on the top to hold the pages open. Think like a chip clip mixed with a lockdown clamp.
How can I order like these I need like 100 of them please
Can you please publish plans for this stand
MAHALO FROM MAUI. My friend you are a pleasant gem to encounter in the shady youtube world of home furnishing construction.,,and after toiling away with the uncleaned masses of cardboafrd straws and popsicle sticks..( to which I openly questioned,,who saves the disgusting popsicles sticks. to which I was enlightened and stand corrected) in any case I will commend you on the lovely clear instructions . Just because you have the means, however does that make it a prospective project. Sadly that means I must "slow my roll" and perhaps resonate on a much lower vibration to even conceive exists, let alone..('DA KINE' may not be your answer..Ill go with D..aloha
Still can't hold a book bro I promise
