Burned 40 calories but after the race you got them back with that healthy McDonalds meal lol

I started trying to race rc back in 1989 when the JRX2 came out. First in my yard, then a track opened up not too far from my house. Off road back then was dirt tracks. Anyway, had fun, but then the same track put in a carpet oval. That's when I got my real taste of turn marshaling. Here I was, 6'6"+, lanky, clumsy, trying my best to get those cars back up and running. I even made a flying leap toward the track to save some unlucky competitor, only to land foot first on another car. Oh yes, good times. Well the old track I raced at closed down, and haven't raced in probably four years. Still got a barn full of rc stuff, maybe someday another track will open up in my area. But I'm too old to turn marshal now lol.

as someone who’s marshalled for 6 hours straight at a 1/10th scale race, i can confirm the struggle

I've marshaled for 1/8 scale buggies and truggies and for 1/4 scale stock cars. Of all of these the truggies are definitely the most dangerous. I know it might sound weird that it's not the 1/4 scale stock cars, but they actually handle marshaling for 1/4 scale oval classes differently. Instead of having the marshals out on the track like you would with most classes, the marshals stay outside of the track bounds. And when a car wrecks they call a yellow, like at a full-size racing event, except it's treated like a non race-ending red where the cars stop at the line to wait for the wreck to be sorted. The car that wrecks rejoins at the back of the pack, and then a green is given to restart the race.

Keeping with MXA's theme of not picking on anyone, but yea. I was racing back in the 20-tweens and the rise of e-truggy was the worst. One time, the race director stop the heat race, pulled all the drivers off the stand, had a 'chat' with them on calming down or the class was cancelled. Racing was better, but still not great.

Try Marshaling a 1/8 buggy race in the triple section, now that's dangerous! It is like getting hit with cinder blocks.

“ That means I burned a total of 40 calories” hahahaha
I want to get into rc racing. Went to the track 2 times and I actually really enjoyed marshaling :D

I try my best but can no longer run after cars. 5 years ago I ran for a car and tore my quadriceps tendon leading to surgery and long recovery. Now I usually ask for help from younger folks so I can avoid high traffic areas. Lol

Drivers should complain about the service provided by the turn marshals. Don't wreck and you won't need them regairdless how fast or slow they get to your car. Love the channel by the way. Keep up the good work.

The only 'real' problem with marshalling is with lower attendance tracks, they tend to not want to turn anyone away, so they'll run every class under the sun, and sometimes you end up multiple consecutive heats of 3-5 cars total, and they're relying on volunteer marshals.

and marshalls that stand with their phone or hands in pocket watching the race rather then watch their part of the track and a car could be lying in a real bad corner for like 10-15sec before anyone starts to scream at the marshall to do his job.

Allegedly, people have died from getting hit by an 8th scale in mid air. Don't rc car marshals in Asia wear helmets?

You guys did a lot of work that day. The track was angry. I couldn't talk my son out of helping and that's why he got hit with the short course truck. haha

Where most of these marshalls new to RC? They were all very timid. Getting hit in the face with an RC car is a right of passage. Elite Tier Marshalling is catching it mid air, and marshalling it fast enough that it becomes their hero lap.

Marshaling is something we all have to do and I have marshalled hundreds of times. There are the two things that bother me. One is the guy who crashed by himself and yells at me for not marshaling fast enough. The worst is the racer that crashes over and over again in the same place and yells at the marshal.
