    we got one from Tiger a few years back and i love that damn thing. my husband got it cheap from work because it was a floor model and they were getting rid of the old ones to make room for the new ones and at first i thought, "but i can make really good rice on the stovetop! why do i need THIS?" but now i can't live without it. we make rice at least 3x a week (for onigiri, curry, stir fry, mabodoufu, you name it) and it's a bloody godsend. no more boilovers, no more scorched rice, no more having to stand there and tend to it. just put in the rice and water, close the top, hit the button and 45 minutes later, perfect rice. Calrose, jasmine, basmati, whatever. it makes it perfectly every. single. time. it's worth its weight in gold.

    Living in Japan, I've got the one on the left, but it cost about half as much as the one in the video. My friend always complained about my old rice cooker's rice, and now I can understand why. If you're going to eat a lot of rice, definitely worth the money for the good one.
    And I can confirm that the rice is still good for days. For maybe 2 days I'll happily eat it plain. After that, I stick to making fried rice. As far as 10 days, though... I feel like you need to rethink how much rice you're making if you have enough for 10 days.

    • @wellivea1
      @wellivea1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, and tiger sells some for about $70 that are still far better than the mechanical click ones, they just don't have any special features or timer. The consistency of the rice depends on how much water you put in, unlike the $350 zojirushi, but it doesn't burn rice to the bottom and the texture is fairly consistent. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KDNKTJG/

    Our family ownes an Asian restaurant, I was taught by the Chefs to mix 1/3 short grain to 2/3 long grain which I translated to the $40 rice cooker at home, I made sure to find one that had a surgical steel basin. I use the cup that came with it to measure for rice and the measurements on the basin for water. Comes out perfect everytime but I do use chopsticks to flake the rice once the flicker goes off, then I leave it for another 15 minutes. Perfect.

    This isn't about price necessarily, it's about consistency. Getting consistent rice throughout the pot is worth money because you won't have to throw away parts that are mushy or scorched. There's nothing worse than mushy rice.

    • @uweschroeder
      @uweschroeder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Did you do the math on that? I can buy 25lbs of basmati for around $7. So even if you throw out the one or other batch of rice because you burned or over-cooked it - you can do that for a lifetime and never recoup your investment. All it helps with is that you don't have to spend another 20 minutes cooking another batch.

    My old rice cooker died last month. I decided on the zojirushi because I liked the timer and extra settings (brown rice). I am amazed by the difference! My old rice cooker had one 60 minute setting and a warming function, it could never make proper sushi rice, and the warm function dried or browned the rice on the bottom. Once skeptical of these fancy smart cookers - they absolutely make better rice. They also use less energy than my old rice crock, I couldn't hear a power draw from my air conditioner when turning it on.

    Those cheap rice cookers don't hold rice for long. The fancy ones keep rice fresh for days. There is a reason why like 90% of Koreans have those 400+ (sometimes over 500 dollars) Cuckoo/Cuchen brand rice cookers. And they last 10 years easily.

    Lived with my parents' Zojirushi all my life for the price of $150 brand new from the 99 Ranch. Moved out on my own and got a $30 black and decker rice cooker (w/ pot lid like the Aroma one). It was hell trying to eat that stuff every day. Finally bought my own Zojirushi for $150, and it was such a HUGE difference. I "mealprep" my rice, leaving it in up to a week sometimes. Never worried about "rice poisoning" as some mealpreppers always seem to worry about. Rice is always fluffy and perfect. The type of rice you can just eat by itself. I use it to make hot oatmeal for breakfast and porridge for sick days, too.Wash it, press the button, and you're done with it. I work, go to the gym, and try to sleep early. I try to spend 1 hour at most for cooking and eating, otherwise I only have 2 hours of free time before bed. A legit rice cooker is seriously a must have for everyday rice eaters!

    Honestly I’ve always loved rice with my meals since a kid. My mom worked with a Filipino man who taught her how to make it perfect in a pot on the stove with a piece of a grocery paper bag sheet between the lid and the pot once we were ready to let the steaming process begin. Rice was perfect every time. When I was 20 years old I was introduced to a rice cooker by a friend who was married to a Japanese man. Thus my kids grew up eating rice at almost every meal. But now we were eating the short grain calrose sushi type rice. So that is what they prefer. Now that I’m alone, I eat mostly short grain sushi rice but some dishes are better with the jasmine rice. I was introduced to that by a Thai man I worked with. I’m vegan now so rice is my daily staple with my meals. I have really considered buying this expensive rice cooker when I saw it on Mommy Tangs TH-cam channel. I think it can only improve the quality of my favorite dish. Tfs this video 👍😊

But recently when Zoji stopped lighting up, my partner went out and bought a cheapo rice cooker the kind like the Aroma. Rice from the new cheapo was so bad I now go out of my way to re-think dinners so that rice is not used. Trying to find a repair shop to get the Zoji working again but with the pandemic just about everybody shuttered their doors. Having watched this video 2x now I am guessing I'm going to have to go out and buy a new Zoji.

    Hey, you are using the wrong technique with the aroma pot! As soon as the pot goes click you need to unplug it and remove the inner pot and lid and set on a trivet. This keeps the bottom part of the rice from burning. I also fluff the rice immediately after I remove the inner pot. I use only jasmine rice and it comes out perfect every time! Nice video though I did not know you can spend that much on a rice cooker. I also use my instant pot with great results.

    • @JimN5QL
      @JimN5QL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wow! I guess you have never used the aroma pot before. Like he said there's only one button. Mine has a non-stick coating so there's never an issue of rice sticking. What he did not mention is that after the button pops up it goes into a keep warm mode and that is what will burn the rice on the bottom and that's why I simply take the pot out and put it on a trivet to stop the cooking on the bottom. I use long grain, Basmati and Jasmine rice. At first there is a learning curve to get the ratio of rice to water for each but after that it's simple. I am a Cajun and Cajun food usually has rice as a side. When I serve guests I always get asked how did I make the rice. there's actually no extra effort and it seems more effort with that $350 one with all the buttons to push. My Aroma pot is very lightweight, small footprint and easy to store when not needed that is a plus for me. My grandmother taught my mother how to make rice in a saucepan with a lid and mom taught me how to do that and the rice came out wonderful. I just bought the aroma pot because it was on sale and I was curious but I have not regretted the purchase!

    All you have to do is move the rice cooker from side to side when you add the water. It makes everything come out perfectly even.

    55mins? You can boil perfect rice in under 15mins using the evaporation technique on the stove. It's not difficult after 2 or 3 times you'll own it.

      I can’t get consistent results using the stove. Only because I don’t time it right every time. I have kids to chase. I can’t babysit a timer. Rice cooker is definitely a great helping hand.

    i eat rice regularly, my ratio is 1:2, rice to water in that regular rice cooker always . you could try that and believe me you will get good and even cooked rice but it also depends on what type of rice you are cooking with

    I’ve been a tiger rice cooker crew since birth… finally got my Bentley rice cooker… it’s night and day difference…like all the grains were cooked evenly good. Best thing is that you can have a keep warm rice option without burning your rice .

    I'm Indonesian and eat rice everyday... The $50 rice cooker is good enough actually, but if you want perfection, buy the expensive rice cooker...

      RACERBOY RACER Indonesian rice has totally different texture to jp, kr, tw and china . It’s similar to robusta and arabica.

    Ha ha, I just bought my first rice cooker today and got the zorirushi, even though it was expensive. We have a great Japanese grocery here in Seattle and asked for the best. My first batch turned out pretty good! But didn’t know I was supposed to wash my rice, first. I also added a touch of vinegar since was going for sushi rice.
    Thanks for the vid!

    BTW if you are going to spend $350 + for a Zojirushi please make sure it is made in Japan not China. I bought a Japanese made Sanyo Rice Cooker in 1994, use it everyday and it is still humming perfectly

    Aroma Housewares 8-Cup (Cooked) (4-Cup UNCOOKED) Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer (ARC-914D) for under $30 on Amazon. Took the opportunity to purchase one a couple years ago when I had a $10 credit so my price was $18... I love the timer feature as it is basically set and forget like the Zojirushi. The only downside is that it'll eventually scorch your rice if you leave it sitting in "warm" function for too long.

    I still have a zojirushi rice cooker that I have been using for 10 years since I was a kid and it still works definitly worth the investment. Now in college and I bought another once and it makes perfect rice everytime. My roommate had aroma rice cooker problem is it waste rice as the bottom layer gets dry. While Zojirushi stays moist for days

    For easy rice
    Put 1cup rice to 2 cups water(enough for 2)
    Heat water first, then add salt and butter (white vinegar is optional) then add the rice, cover for 20mins and done
    And to reheat(valid for 2 days) put around half a cup of water and cover until water is gone
