I was 8 years old then! I wouldn't start playing drums for another year.
I didn't really get heavy in to hard rock until 88-90. By the time I started getting in bands the who9acene changed.
It was like I was super cool for a couple years with girls chasing me through the halls, only to have depressed, angry Nirvana types make the girls ugly and sullen. That was my 9/10th grade years.
In 9th I did start a metal band with a childhood friend that endures to this day. It will be 30 years in 2022!
Yeah, I've had plenty of opportunities, but I never loved any music more than Hard Rock. Looking back that 89/90 year was surreal. All my favorite songs were played on the radio and MTV.
Glad you got to experience it!
I did play drums in an 80's hair band tribute called RockStar in Detroit from 2009-2014. The singer we hired took over the band after I left. One of my very best friends plays drums with them currently. Back in the day we'd have epic drum jams. He'd bring his set over to my house and vice versa. We played all those great songs!

Around 87 ( I was 17) I auditioned for a number of bands. I had short hair so a lot of bands wouldn't even consider me despite the fact that I'd been playing for 9 years. One band gave me a shot. The drummer was in the corner doing his own thing when I started playing. He perked up & said "Fuck Dude, you sound like George Lynch." And just like that, my ego grew 3 sizes.

True but, his voice is shot now. He has no upper range. He sings well below what he use to. And, he has to use so much nasality to even get anything mid-range. There's no power to his voice anymore. He sang too much and smoked too much. Completely blew out and shot his chords. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do as a singer. Around 1995 his voice started to go. His range dropped from 1996-2008. Anything from 2009 to present is either low or slightly mid-range. He probably hasn't hit a high note since 1995, 26 years ago.

I Agree... Hair metal Was A Great Era... And it Still Is Like Literally Man... People Would Need To know That Hair metal Could Have Sick ass Riffs And Solos Like Thrash Metal! But Unfortunately Other People just liked Death Metal Punk Or Even Grunge! Like if Someone Doesn't like Hair metal/Glam metal Then We Could start With Dokken And Stryper! 👍 Those Two bands are My idols And It's Actually Quite Good That Motley Crue Made Glam Heavier! Becauae I loved Them On there 80s and early 90s Stuff And nothings Wrong With Vince Neil! But I'll Stop Talking Now Becauae I Am Probably Being A Annoying FUCK Right Now! But... Peace & Love From Hayden White Your Glam metal Fan!... ✌️

Yeah, I will have to agree as well, and this is coming from someone born after the 80's...
I really wish that I was alive at the time of the 80's, it's just that there's just some sort of magic only exclusive to that time, and every time I look at a music video from the 80's, it's like looking through a window, being able to see something, but not interact with it.

How cool, I was stationed at Schofield Barracks Oahu, Hawaii. My newlywed wife had never been to a rock concert before. Parents wouldn't let her back home in Illinois. We went to Honolulu to see Dio with Viv Campbell and the opening act was Dokken. Fall of 1984. Awesome . Another memory were 3 Marines smoking a bowl of Hawaiin . Police came up behind them and they got caught. I felt something land on my foot. They threw their baggie down, so I put my shoe over it . Kept them from getting busted. I clearly remember Ronnie encased in a laser beam. Dokken took the stage like a storm. Don is a great guitarist also. Hopefully history repeats itself and my grandkids can experience music where the singer can sing without auto-tune ,the guitarist doesn't just strum chords, and the drums are actually played, not a programmed machine.

    • @machupikachu1085
      @machupikachu1085 2 ปีที่แล้ว

not necessarily. In the late 90's Don sold his recording studio to Jack Russel at full price knowing the building had been scheduled for demolition. Jack lost his whole life savings in the affair, so he reformed Great White in the early 2000's to generate some revenue. It was on this tour that the tragic fire happened.

I'm 47 years old now Dokken has been my favorite band since I was 13! To me they could do no wrong! Personally I feel if they had not went on the Monsters of Rock Tour and headlined it like they were originally going to do they would have stayed together as the original members of a lot longer. But they are a much underrated van I mean there is no one who can touch George Lynch! And wild Mick Brown was the reason I got into drums. I was desperately in love with Mick Brown! And it infuriates me when people refer to 80s metal as hair metal that is the most derogatory term you could use. They were so much more than that they got a lot of kids through a lot of BS through their teenage years. If it wasn't for the song The Hunter I don't know if I ever would have made it to see my twenties. As always Rockin with Dokken

When I heard all the guitar on this song in 85... my mind was blown. George had some really good nights in the studio w this record. That and it was a really good mix. The whole record just sounded good wherever you played it. The solo is incredible w all the diff punch in's and diff guitar tones. Just stellar. This is how I remember these guys.

    Dokken - The Hunter
Clouds roll by as I look to the sky
And then the feeling comes, it comes on again
You know desire burns like a fire, fire of sin
    Oh, will I ever learn
You're the only one I could call my own
But then the shadows fall and I'm gone again
    I'm a hunter
    Searching for love
    On these lonely streets again
    I'm the hunter
    Searching for things
That I might never find again
Care for you, you know that I always will
I know it's hard for you, my taste for the kill
But then it calls to me when the moon rises full in the sky
    You know it's not denied
Will I ever find love and peace of mind
On these streets again, will it ever end
    I'm a hunter
    Searching for love
    On these lonely streets again
    I'm the hunter
    Searching for things
That I might never find again
You know desire burns like a fire, fire within
    I guess I'll never learn
You're the only one I could call my own
But when the shadows fall, you know I won't be home
    I'm a hunter
    Searching for love
    On these lonely streets again
    I'm the hunter
    Searching for the things
That I might never find again
    I'm a hunter
    Searching for love
    I'm the hunter
    Searching for the things
That I might never find again
