  • Join me for this amazing solo adventure to the summit of East Spanish Peak in Sangre de Cristo Range in Southern Colorado! This hike is much tougher than its 13er neighbor, West Spanish Peak. I started at the 2wd Wahatoya Trailhead at 8,400 feet and hiked 13.5 miles to the 12,683 Ft. Summit and back. This made for a pretty long day hike with nearly 4,500 feet of total elevation gain. The scenery along the trail was absolutely beautiful and the views from the summit are unique and truly amazing! This peak is notable for not only being the easternmost 12er in the United States, but also the easternmost point you can hike above treeline in Colorado! Enjoy!

Loved this! Thanks for sharing. I did West Spanish Peak and Wheeler a couple weeks ago. The views were amazing. I will have to come back and do East Spanish Peak.

We did West Spanish peak at the scout camp at the base of the twins! Coming at that peak from the other side was a lotta fun, there's an abandoned cabin up there somewhere.
The bowl was really cool from what I remember and it was pretty windy so my group passed on the summit, I had fresh stitches in a toe so it was awesome just to tag along!

Thanks for the video. Very nice. I hiked West Spanish Peak a couple years ago and am planning on doing East in a few weeks.

Trying to bag torreys and greys in mid June but afraid they will keep the roads closed due to the COVID smh

I honestly didnt even know they closed that road in the place. Either way there's definitely alot of options for peaks to climb!

Ethan's Hiking Channel looks like they don’t , according to a trip report from 5/21 even the upper road is pretty much snow free all the way.
But mount Evans definitely isn’t opening today as per usual, postponed until July

What time did you start? I can’t remember if you mentioned that.

Started around 7am. Normally I would've started earlier but they were calling for a 0% chance of thunderstorms.
