Kaiju No. 8, man as a Manga OG, this journey was something. I originally found out about it when someone posted about it on a subreddit about "Kamen Rider, except he transforms into a literal Monster and fights giant Kaiju" which completely sold me to the manga. LOL
Fun Fact! On Manga Plus it was originally called "Monster No. 8" until VIZ picked up their own translation and used the term Kaiju for their manga and anime TLs which is what stuck to this day.
When I first read it I was pretty hooked, it scratched that Kaiju itch I had since waiting for the next Godzilla and King Kong films, while also providing the unique premise for a Shonen of following a washed-out 32 year old. It was funny, it was action-packed, and it could get pretty damned disturbing, which was most of what I looked for in Kaiju media. When I caught up on the chapters, I remember telling myself: "Man, this would be so cool if they animated this." I had doubts though, I didn't think any animation company would pick up an action comic that circled around someone who didn't fit the criteria of the typical hot-blooded or mild mannered high schooler, even if there were characters like Reno and Kikoru, much less capture the detail and kinesis of the manga. *But, boy was I wrong!* Three years after I caught up, the anime delivered, and despite my gripe of how "potato-y" the characters look compared to the manga designs (the characters' torsos and faces look kinda elongated and less defined), they did a pretty bang-up job.
My waifu is Mina cause she has a big cannon, and a pet Tiger. lol
So Season 2 (and at this point in the manga, definitely Season 3) is gonna be a DOOZY. You thought this season gets crazy, *WELL YOU HAVEN'T SEE NOTHING YET!*
I agree with NikNak about the MHA similarities, so besides from that show, I'd also recommend:
    - Pacific Rim
and these Kaiju flicks that use the premise of "Man vs Monster vs Monster":
    - Godzilla vs Biollante
    - Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (Also known as GMK for short)
    - Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
    - Godzilla: Final Wars
    - Godzilla (2014)
    - Kong: Skull Island (2017)
    - Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
    - Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Honorable Mention goes to "Godzilla: The Series" for being a Saturday Morning Cartoon based on the bad 1998 Godzilla film and has NO RIGHT being as good as it is compared to that movie.
For the next video: YES! IT'S TIME FOR PEEEEEEEAAAAAAK! Glazing joke aside, I really like Movie 5 and look forward to see what everyone thinks of both films this time around.

Lol I really enjoyed Skull Island tbh. Saw it a few years ago, and I think I've seen a few others from that run

I forgot to mention, I haven't seen it, but Guyver is VERY similar to Kajiu no. 8, but alot darker. Also there were two western adaptations, the first one had Mark Hamill as a side character, and the sequel that starred David Hayter of Metal Gear Solid fame (also he was the writer of X-Men, X2, and Watchmen. lol)
First movie was kinda bad. Second movie I heard was decent for a direct-to-DVD film.
