  • Curious what an Industrial Organizational Psychology Masters student goes on to do for a PhD dissertation? Here's what I did and what I found in my Human Capital Management PhD dissertation.
You can read the abstract here: www.proquest.com/openview/8fd...
Below are my hypotheses (all were found to be supported):
H1: Prior performance predicts future performance
H2: Competency ratings are hypothesized to predict future performance
H3: Competency ratings predict future performance over and above prior performance
Additional finding: There is a mediating relationship in which competency intervenes between prior performance and future performance.

How skilled do you need to be with excel/data? Or can you do a video on what non psychology classes are needed to help in a career as an io psychologist

Hi Helen, that all depends on what you plan to do with the degree. There are many jobs with an I/O degree that will not require advanced analytics, but you will need to be able at least be proficient enough to learn some of the important I/O techniques and concepts. I'd say plan to be at least intermediate in Excel (or something else to work with data). As for non-psychology classes, I would say that you should look for business and communications classes (may also more in the research or analytics space as well). Good luck!
