My grandfather was its second directior. The Museum focuses on the arts and sciences of the region. And while the layout of the Museum is wrong, there actually is a dinosaur (Therizinosaur) skeleton in the entry hall-though it wasn't put in until this century/millennium.

    I think Old World Blues, the mod for HOI4 not the Vegas expansion, does a great job for representing Mexico and South America with its faction choices. Very well thought out and the map is quite detailed. The Fallout world as a grand strategy game is just a wonderful idea. You can play as New Reno, reinstate the Enclave by placing Doran in charge, and then purge the NCR and Western Brotherhood from the West Coast to restore access to Mariposa and gain the Advanced Power Armor and Vertibird production capabilities. Or playing as the Mojave Chapter of the Brotherhood you can reclaim Helio 1, defeat the Mojave NCR forces, claim Hoover Dam, and then purge Caeser from the land. Send scouts to Area 6 and give the Brotherhood the ability to create Vertibirds. I ain't making any of this up. There is probably 50 factions to choose from, but 12 for each main section. West Coast, Mexico, and Texas. But the next update will add the east coast to the world map. Campaign starts Jan 1 2275 and ends when you conquer the map.

    I really wish some F4 modders would take notes. I haven't seen anything quite on this caliber since playing Someguy's McCarthy-inspired, Wild West New Vegas Extravaganza. And even then, the politicking here is just phenomenal. I love that it took a Russian to truly develop a narrative around shadow governments and the resulting corruption in a failed state/society in a believable way.

    1. The devs of F:Sonora have announced a "DLC" for the mod. I don't know much about it besides that it features Dayglow because the detailed info is only available in a paid article in VK.
    2. A new untitled retrofuturistic (not postapocalyptic) RPG in the vein of Fallout was announced by New Blood Interactive. It is confirmed that it will be worked on by Adam Laczko (developer of Project Van Buren), Mark Morgan (music composer for F1, F2, WL2 and WL3) and Alexandr Berezin (3D artist for F:Sonora).

    Those 3D talking heads really are beautiful, great works of art. The vanilla ones were claymation models, apparently. Possibly my favourite material used in stop-motion, a style I already like. The rippled textures and jerky mehanical movements lend themselves well to surreal horror and fantasy - or endearing man-and-dog animations, if you polish it round and smooth enough. 🧀
    Imagine Talos the bronze titan slowly rotating his dreadful, lifeless visage to stare upon the characters in Jason And The Argonauts, but recreated with modern CGI. No, not the same. And, of course, the shrieking skeletons. And the six-armed statue from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Ah, too many to name.
    I remember playing an old game that you can't get anymore outside of torrenting called Magic & Mayhem (Or, in some territories, a name that involved Mage Wars). It had a great voice actor narration and all the character models and cutscenes were claymation. The frame rate was like a legless pisshead climbing up the stairs at 3:00 in the morning, but something with that kind of charm deserves a remake and not to be lost to the ages. The kids these days need some more claymation joy in their lives. Thses are the hard-hitting issues that only occur to a man on the toilet.

    As a musician who seeks great influence out of atmospheric scores more & more lately, I am really impressed how closely they managed to capture the desolate & ominous essence of Mark Morgans creations.
    If I wasn't told who created the soundtrack for Fallout Sonora, I would
    have easily thought that they hired Mark for those amazing compositions.
    Even though I have no skills in modding or game design, projects like these really inspire me to maybe learn about it or maybe even study it in the future.
    Because I have countless ideas for fallout fitting lore & stories in my mind.
    I even written scripts how to make fallout 3 for example a real rpg instead of a shooter with rpg elements.
    Im not really much of a gamer, merely a person who appreciates love & passion put in a project.
    Which was visible in Obsidians/Black Isles fallout games.
    Im also very grateful that so many modders & game designers are out there keeping the spirit of classic fallout still alive to this day.
    It would be an honor to be a part of a dev team some day to pitch them ideas for stories.
    This project looks really promising & I will definitely try it once its in english. And I hope that they find suitable voice actors to do the excellent talking heads animation & looks justice.

    I giggled like a loon when you just straight up cold clocked that fella and stole his rifle.
    ARGHH!!! When you mentioned there were only 4 bounty hunter quests a great idea for a 5th came to mind. Mid-game you could clear a bounty set on yourself to collect the reward and neutralize the bad reputation you've accumulated with certain factions encountered in the early game by locating someone who's been impersonating you. This would provide players the opportunity for a hard reset before they dive into the game's world and political landscape in earnest, similar to how the factions of New Vegas would offer an olive branch allowing the player to do a 180 after they've had time to familiarize themselves with all the major players.
    I love Fallout mods but when inspiration strikes it's so frustrating to accept I don't know the first thing about coding.

    I always got a very "limited in reach, extensive in influence" sort of "pax Americana" vibe from the original BoS, and I think Sonora's BoS is a logical extension of this. I really appreciate the vaguely indomitable feel they have in their little fortress complex - it seems so fragile, like running a couple of overt missions at once would leave them overextended and vulnerable. It's a more lore-friendly vibe than any of the first person games had, imo. Especially FO4, that BoS was way too strong and organised for the East Coast imo

    You know... this makes the one project, fan made or first party, that I've seen who remembers the Brotherhood of Steel were absolute assholes in Fallout 1. Like not even kidding. The Brotherhood of Steel sentry in Fallout 1 sends you to the Glow without warning you about the Radiation hoping you'd die because he thinks its funny to send "savages" to their death. He changes his tune when you show him up.
    But then the Brotherhood in Fallout 1 also goes: "Oh, supermutant army about to run over everyone? We'll just hunker in our bunker, wait for them to genocide everyone else, and then win the wasteland forever!".
    When you shame them into helping you? They send like 4 Paladins to Mariposa Military base... who then set off the alarm by starting a combat with the Supermutant sentries outside, congratulate themselves on how badass they are, and leave you to storm the now fully alerted meatgrinder of Mariposa Military Base by yourself while they are busy victory dancing outside.
    When your survivor solves the problems single handedly... they then claim all the credit in order to get an In with the developing NCR.
    Every game afterwards treats the Brotherhood of Steel like they're some flavor of Big Danged Heroes Good Guys.
    ... so Sonora is about the only one that remembers they're assholes extreme. Which is cool.

    • @pantonearqm2791
      @pantonearqm2791 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Part about the Glow is not true tho. They tell you that there is radiation there, they tell you how to protect yourself and if you have int. less then 3 they even give you rad-x. Also paladins don't follow you into Mariposa base because of technical issues with the game and if you take them to fight the Master they will be with you until the end. People often shit on brotherhood in F1, but they were much better there, then in future games (If we don't count bethesda idiocracy in F3 of course), they helped other cities to defened against mutes after the ending, they develop new tech and traded it with NCR and San Fancisco. Brotherhood can be assholes at times but they aren't as bad as you and other people describe them, not in F1 that for sure.

    • @KingLich451
      @KingLich451 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmm I wouldn't call them assholes, but they most certainly aren't the shiny armored good knight guys.

    • @hitomisalazar4073
      @hitomisalazar4073 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I mean when you actually do complete the Glow mission for them? The Brotherhood does tell you that they sent you there to die and expected you to as a joke. I mean I didn't asspull it, it's literally in the game.
      I just find it amusing because there is that big disconnect. The Brotherhood, as I experienced in it game... is nothing like what the Ending Slides tried to suggest it was. Now it could be some bugs in the codes, missing content (like they won't let you into the armory even after you sign up), poorly timed bits of bleak humor, etc.
      The intention I think always was that they were supposed to be the Shiny Knights of Goodness and all. It's what the ending slides said. It's what Fallout 2 said. It's what Tactics, and Brotherhood of Steel all said.
      But it's definitely not how I viewed them when I first played the game. It was more me constantly grumbling and disappointed, going into a sort of sunk cost fallacy of "Well surely now that I've done X, Y, and Z they'll come in clutch" and just... it never happened until the Ending Slide which I remember made me laugh at loud when I first saw it because of this moment of absurdist humor that could be summed up as "Since fucking when?!" as they showed no signs of anything but self preservation, narrow aspirations, hatred, and distrust of the outside world.

    the author of the soundtrack is at least very talented, at the most he is a genius. so many masterpiece music tracks with so many sound effects and layered musical textures. each track creates an incredible immersion in the atmosphere of the game. Developers are lucky to have such a composer. I hope he's working on another soundtrack now

    It’s both interesting and fucked up that when it comes time to broker a deal in the second half of the game with one of the factions you basically have to team up with one of the groups directly or indirectly responsible for the enslavement of your people, Everyone who is important in this universe uses slaves for one reason or another and nobody’s hands are clean. It’s interesting and probably more accurate to a post apocalyptic economy would be run.

    Not only a delight to see another post from Warlockracy, but how cool to see this mod I've never heard of! I live in Tucson and I was amazed at the detail, like how Two Suns had a big hangar, as we have a major air force base here, and that symbol for the Phoenix church is the actual symbol for the real city of Phoenix. So cool.

    I always wondered why is it that in the Russian modding community (or should I say Eastern european modding in general?) you can stumble upon teams of only a handful of people, or even more frequently solo developers trying to tackle quite large projects by themselves?
    Take the Russian Stalker modding scene, some of the fallout stuff you've covered. Most of such projects offer up incredible potential but are almost completely squandered by incomprehensive stories, shoddy design choices and such. I don't get it, is it a crime to ask for help? To share your story with others, get feedback and polish it? Is it a "grekh" to let someone other than yourself work on your idea?

    • @Max-ke3ty
      @Max-ke3ty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +97

      It's not really a problem that's endemic to Russian projects, but if I had to guess, Russians are very big on the concept of "putting your soul into things". While this sounds good on paper, it makes it hard for some people to compromise on their vision.

    • @sebs-shenanigans
      @sebs-shenanigans 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Max-ke3ty I was thinking something similar. I more think its sign of shame, or lack of prowess to be unable to shoulder all of the burden. Its as if the rest of the creators will shun them for being "this weak."

    • @Max-ke3ty
      @Max-ke3ty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@sebs-shenanigans Personally, wouldn't say so. As a Narrative Designer, my experience talking to such people was their genuine hard-headed belief that they "already know how to write". Same probably applies to game design, which is even tougher than a proper game narrative, and yet many people think they are experts already.

    • @sebs-shenanigans
      @sebs-shenanigans 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@Max-ke3ty Point taken. God i wish it was that easy though. To be an expert at game design.
      But if there is active feedback, multiple people and exposure at early stages of development, provided the person's not a complete stuck up arse, won't they be able to observe the faults in their own logic and judgement.

      A lot of creative people indeed don't like other people working on their babies. That is quite normal honestly.
      It tends to be an attitude that one grows out of over time as they mature as an artist. But young/inexperienced creative types can often be similar to Gollum.

Not only is your delivery and editing super sharp and entertaining but you fill every video with extremely comprehensively researched background and context that I feel like hearing about these games is actually teaching me about the places and peoples who's upbringing, creeds, and personal philosophies brought these games into existence. Thanks so much for your excellent videos. I'll be recommending your channel to all of my friends and I hope it continues to thrive with many more awesome videos to come.
