- Having owned about 60 DRZ400sm we've got a pretty good idea of the best lowcost mods and set up tips. Here's our suggestion on how to transfom a drz for around $300.

False. The most important mod is a slip on exhaust. That way even if you’re slow, at least you sound fast

Try raising the fork tubes up a little bit to compensate for the slower steering with the taller tire. I know there isn't much room before the forks hit the handlebars, but give it a try
Playing with fork height is always a cheap awesome option for bike set up. Great reminder!
Are we maxing out both compression settings on the front forks or just the larger adjuster
max both up top, rebound on bottom, max and then back off 4 clicks is our baseline
curious if there is a rear shock setting for drz you prefer after changing the front fork settings. because the rear is as soft as the front from factory and usually sags over 100mm for alot of riders
I honestly don't pay attention to sag, I just play with clickers until it's in the ballpark and go ride!
Spend $75 and go to Dave Moss for suspension woes.
on my sm dizzer I got a shock spring right for my weight (220) and it made all the difference. small price for a huge change.
I bought a 2022 and don’t plan on tracking it often, I already have the rubber killers installed, is maxing the compression and dampening mainly for track racing ?
Yes, but honestly spin the clickers until you like it. Don't be afraid to experiment with the suspension settings. they can transform the bike!
Are you running stock tire sizes front and rear?
150/r 120/70 front
any adjustment on the rear shock?
max compression, touch of preload
So the conti Attack Sm evo tires are a no go?
I'd go Dunlop Q5. OMG that is a good tire

yes we've had the best luck with bridgestone tubes

yeah just talking about the Dunlop tires, We now run Dunlop Q5 which are AMAZING!!!
