Rory was a force of nature, great choice. He just beat this song into submission then helped it up out of the dust and bought it a drink. Everything on this album is legendary in its own right. If you're going for more, try As the Crow Flies.

He played his '61 Stratocaster from 15 years old to 45 years old (1965 - 1995) when he passed. You can hear he became the guitar!

    Excellent!!!!!
The brilliant Rory Gallagher. Fantastic guitarist! Thankfully managed to see Rory a few times. Of course Taste at the Isle of Wight Festival were fantastic!
Cheers and many thanks for this one! Kindest regards. 😊😎🎸🇺🇦

I wish I was there to see it in person! Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher are my top two guitarists! I never saw either one live!

@@robertrohde4579 Yes I consider myself blessed in that way. I think that I saw Rory 4 or 5 times, but Gary I saw many, many times, from his days with Skid Row, Thin Lizzy, Colosseum ll, Greg Lake and with his own band of course. Also I was lucky enough to actually meet him in Croydon and found him to be a really nice guy. We chatted about guitars and music in general. Something I will never forget.
      Cheers. 😊😎🎸🇺🇦

@@stevehanham9266 I have been blessed to see some great musicians here in the USA. SRV, Jeff Healey, Danny Gatton, to name a few. My oldest niece married an Irishman and lives in Donegal. I have lineage going back to Galway. I went to Ireland 1980 and celebrated my 15th birthday in Galway.

‘Walk on hot coals, sleep on a bed of nails, walk on thin ice, skate on razor blades.” ; just some of what he sings. What great blues lyrics. That was Rory; he had the blues in his blood. See the official Rory Gallagher site for tons more about him and music. There’s no one like him. (His name is pronounced “Gal a her,” without hard g in the last syllable.)

They issued a boxed set that includes all 3 of the stops on this tour, (Belfast, Dublin and Cork, a 4th concert at city hall, plus a dvd of the movie made about the tour. A lot of duplicate songs from the different concert stops, but none are identical. Worth it to Rory fans.

    Love your reaction.
If you do get to dissect the lyrics, they actually are an absolute critical part of this songs profound understanding of where Rory was coming from.
I’ve got my little girl beside me, no matter what else fails!
He’s not talking about a woman, he’s talking about his Stratocaster.
The Stratocaster then speaks for itself.

Great reaction! Thanks. Great to see your amazement at what Rory is doing there. You'll have to watch the film version, which is the second instrumental half of the song. 🙂🙂

Loved watching your reaction to hearing this - sometimes it's even better when there's no video so that one can just really listen to the music. This song (which is actually "Walk" not Walking on Hot Coals) is one example of why Rory really was beyond compare, and I hope you take Jeff Dennis' suggestion and experience the entire album. Rory tended to feel most at home at more intimate venues. I recommend checking out this version of Rosco Gordon's classic "Just a Little Bit" from his performance at My Father's Place, Roslyn NY, '74: th-cam.com/video/z9aefl3Ho6I/w-d-xo.html Rory eschews most of the lyrics and lets the music say it all. The band is so tight and firing on all cylinders. Each time I listen to it, I have to listen to it again. This is where I saw him perform in '78. Whatever's next for you, remember that experiencing Rory is a musical journey, enjoy and keep on...

Glad you picked the best version, with the studio version also good, but Rory is unique in making even better live versions...and this is the one 🎸
Next one, if you never heard it is Million Miles away from the SAME album '74

He does a great version of this on the old grey whistle test. The guitar playing is great, goes without saying, but Rod de'Aths drumming pushes this allong .

I always appreciate how Rod D'ath & Gerry McAvoy are solid as a rock but loose at the same time giving Rory & Lou Martin this bed to glide over.

The film version of this is on youtube but it was shortened and sound quality wasn't as good so I picked this one. You say you're downloading it. If you can get the whole album. It's his very best of anything he's released. Every song on it is the best version of that song. It opens with Cradle Rock. A song Joe Bonamassa has covered. He's also played Rory's guitar on stage before.

Thank you so much! I so enjoyed watching your enjoyment of Rory's amazing guitar work. He was such an outstanding natural musician with impeccable timing, knowing when less is more. His use of harmonics is second to none. Try checking out his slide guitar work on Cradle Rock Montreux 1975. th-cam.com/video/-k4iocWURPk/w-d-xo.html
