Hey Jeff, coming from an ex trucker who drove Cascadia 10 speeds, I can tell ya there is never a reason to use 1st gear ;) very rarely will you even use 2nd unless you're starting on a grade, unless its a permitted overweight load. Just a little tidbit of info for ya. Love the vids man keep up the good work!
You don't need to put on the trailer brakes, they are already on until you charge the trailer with air. By the way, that trailer emergency valve/knob should be out automatically when your bobtail, matter of fact, to have it in you would have to hold it and would have big air leak, unless you use special hose hangers. Simulating that is difficult with what you have to work with.
Hey, Jeff, regarding your Track-IR issues. Just get a small portable power bank with USB and attach it to your chair somewhere. Now you can connect Track-IR to it and have the cable out of your way. I used to have the power bank on my headphones, but the extra weight was uncomfortable, so I attached it to my chair with velcro tape instead. Works great! :)
The way I back in there, is to keep my trailer as close to the building as possible even if I run up onto the cobble stones or the brick floor they have in front as long as the top of the trailer does not hit the roof of the facade. //////// BTW if you expect Jeff to comment or answer your questions, may as well save on typing because it's not going to happen. Best you can hope for is someone with knowledge of ATS to give you an answer and hope it is correct.
There's a 1993 Plymouth Voyager and a 2000 Dodge Caravan in my driveway right now. Not a bit of rust on either and both drive smooth to this day. But the intrepid was kinda meh
Crst was the first company I drove for. Was there 2 years altogether. It's where I was trained and later came back as an owner/operator, lead driver. Main bad thing is the company is only team driving, but it makes since as it's a training company.
Speaking of automatic transmissions; FYI for anyone who uses the SCS VNL with i-shift. The volvo drivetrain revision mod by galimim breaks gear skipping. To restore realistic skipping functionality you need to disable the mod and stick with defaults.
Hi Jeff, im a truck driver in Iceland. You always start in 3rd gear exept you have extremly heavy load, than you can use second for takeoff. 1st is kind of an extra option for special and extreme circumstances. See ya on twitch sir take care.
Now that looks like a real company because you've got the LLC on the door and stuff like that like you're supposed to when you were driving a real truck
I gotta say I really respect your ethics. It's good to see someone still has some integrity left. I don't remember which ATS video it was, whether it was the last one or another, but you mentioned what you use your TH-cam revenue for. The way you're planning for the future is such a wise move. I've seen so many TH-camrs squander their money on stupid stuff. I don't know when, but one day this goose that laid the golden egg is gonna die. You've got your head on right. Take care and keep on truckin. :-)
I swear, when you go to download mods for ats,you have to be really careful, because of all the spam and malware. And no,i dont need to update my flash player.
Hey jeff just wanted to say i love the videos and keep up the grate content! Also its cool to see a Cascadia in ATS i work for a carnival company in Canada and we have 4 Cascadias 3 with 13speeds (like the one i drive) and one automatic (the only one on the show) they pull nice drive smooth i really cant complain about them the whole fleet is Freight liners with the exception of one western star and some of the 5 ton trucks are international but awesome model and cant wait to see more thanks jeff
Notice the Union Pacific engine being hauled on a trailer @ 2:57 mark.. Reminds me of the preparations for the BIG ONE gold heist in GTA 5. And it looks like the same truck again @ 31:37
You know what Jeff, I don't mind you promoting stuff on your channel. I think we all understand you have to eat and make a living. If someone wants to give you 4K to promote something I would take it. We are not under any obligation to go out and buy said product. Keep up the great content.
Another gorgeous truck my friend, and of course, a very realistic thumbnail. Seriously, you have a way of making this fantastic game look like real trucking diaries. Hope your 2019 is off to a great start. By the way, I showed a friend of mine at Werner your recent Special Transport episode of ATS and she said, "Very smooth, and very realistic. For a gamer, he sure as hell drives like an experienced driver." Just thought I'd let you know that, one of my truck driver friends enjoys watching your episodes and thinks of you as an experienced driver, despite being a gamer.
Crst "cedar rapids super trucker" they are based out of cedar rapids ia. Use to haul a lot of loads for them that they couldn't cover. Love the videos Jeff keep it up
I was hoping this would be in Oregon again, seeing as it'd be mighty fitting having either a Freightliner or Western Star driven where the North American headquarters of Daimler is located. Still, love the videos, and love the truck. I also did not know about the low HP and Torque on trucks these days. Seems counter-intuitive.
Even in video games, people drive super fast in the winter. I drive really slow and I still slide. Last week, I had to drive from Avon to Grand Junction, CO and there were 2 vehicles in the median all banged up due to going fast on icy roads.
Jeff, if you are a big fan of the 1970 Dodge Challenger, you should really check out the movie "Vanishing Point" if you haven't done so already. The original, not the remake.
Jeff, I've said it before and I'll say it again - your ethics, man! Awesome - rock on! I don't have the articulation for a better commentary tonight - other than Ronco _"set it and forget it"_ and if you hit that pole in real life _bonngg!_ cracked me up! Thanks, all around! Cheers-

Your song noise was fantastic. I laughed and woke my gf up. Great job Jeff. I think some train sim would be great. I grew up next to a main line that went from Portland to salt lake city. Now I live next the main line to Omaha
As a truck driver who used to haul for Walmart doing OTR/regional and is now a local driver in a day cab, I have some advice to increase the realism for yourself and the viewers: Get a mod that changes your tractor to "SWIFT".
@@jfavignano I know, I was dogging you because of how you were trying to hook up your fifth wheel to that trailer's kingpin in the beginning. That is something I'd see a Swifty do. It is good the game don't let you hook at an angle like that because although you'd be able to hook up your trailer air, tractor, and electrical, it would be kind of unsafe to dump and raise air to lock in your locking jaw and crank your sandshoes like that. Also you run the risk of the middle of that fifth wheel snagging on the edge of that trailer (taking shortcuts and cutting corners on your backing, literally) Also I couldn't tell but does that 10 speed tranny actually function like a real truck? I mean do you have to double clutch by shifting to gear, netural, gear? I know a few drivers that float gears but they stopped doing it after it wore down the transmission and started causing the stick to slip out of gears. I wish this game simulated the real stress of being at a dock or god forbid an intermodal yard. It is nice to see that you are checking your mirrors and making an attempt at it. I've tried to watch other TH-camrs play this and I just get angry within the first minute. Too much time holding a steering wheel has made me judgemental and salty... ah well.
I ordered the ASP Heavy Hauler about a week and a half ago, next video there was a promo code. I emailed the guys at Evol PC Gaming and they got back to me within 20 minutes and offered to refund and resubmit the order to apply the code, said they never did it but figured it would work. I ended up leaving my order as is but I was very pleased with the quick and helpful service i got, I hope the code is still out there for someone to use. So excited to get it
Yes Jim is a fantastic guy that really cares about his customers and the company. I think it takes about a month to get your button box. Thank you for using the coupon man, glad I could save you some money! Also be sure to send pics on twitter when you get it all setup!
24:50 That Daewoo I think is a Kia Optima, though I also think it’s a Hyundai Accent. One of the two, my mechanic. He fixes something like that all the time.
I didn't even need to smell the brakes after the stop (dang 4 wheelers). Loaded trailer, very likely an underpowered tractor, I bet the brakes on the truck and trailer aren't too happy about a quick stop like that.
44:45: with this type of trailer, the combination seems to crab instead of turn in ATS, regardless of running a 6x4 or a 6x2x2 configuration with or whithout lifting the centre axle... of which this mod seems to show lifting the rear axle. but I cam't figure out how the game truly reacts in these situations. It just feels "off" with regard to ETS2 and the 3-axle box or curtainsided trailers
Jeff, In My Experience, you don't even have to attach the trailer to do a tug test. once you hit it and it prompts you to attach the trailer, you can just put the truck in LL And just hit the gas a little bit and that will be your "tug test". No Trailer Brake of any sorts required.
I honestly don’t know why some that stream ATS harp on horsepower in a big truck? It helps but the main thing that matters in trucks is torque. It’s because the torque is what is needed to start moving from a dead stop when pulling 40k+ pounds.
I learned from SquirrelTV that if you are stopped on a really steep hill, if you hold the trailer brake and rev to high RPM's then let go of the trailer brake while revs are high the truck will start climbing.
Most new trucks come standard with an automatic transmission. You can still get manuals with no problem, but its more of an owner op spec thing now largely. Most medium and large carriers now have 90 to 100% automatics in their fleets. The W900, 389, and a few others still come primarily with manuals, but I won't be surprised if they are phased out within the next 5-10 years.
I had a stock truck, stock trailer and I actually hooked the fifth pin on the side of the base... It took a little effort and damage to get it off. LOL
On a steep hill like that, I use my trailer brake and that prevents rolling backwards which stalls the engine. I use my left flappy paddle as my Jake brake and my right one as my trailer brake. I have a T500 so they are stationary, but it would work on other paddles too.
It is easy for a small side business to become overwhelmed by orders based on demo videos. CSIO tech comes to mind, I love my shifter, but then they received tons of orders and people expected them ASAP. I hope the same does not happen to ASP.
