Thanks to Jon Wagner! I had to download at poor quality, so check out the 4K original here: th-cam.com/video/vUMlZ-ghYBM/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
A newcomer here and pulled the trigger on the ALU HD. Just want to give you kudos on your content. Great format and work. Subscribed.
Hey, thanks for watching (and for the sub)!
Man you NAILED IT! There’s a reason I still prefer my AC1UPs vs my AtGames Bartop setup with 1900+ games. Sometimes having too many choices and not being immersed in the experience you get on an AC1UP is lost when it comes to these all-in-one devices. Not that they don’t get use-typically my AtGames is used for Konami beat-em-ups I dont have space for or firing up Donkey Kong for my Mother-in-law when she visits
Playing a game on the cab it was designed for is a better experience. I actually only use coinopsx for STREET FIGHTER. That's it. I play my schumps on the iiRcade, or the stock games on the ALU or A1ups I own.
With home arcades less can be more. In my arcade certain cabs get played regularly and the ones that don't get touched anymore get sold. I'm waiting on Starwars XL also, hopefully we see it.
Yeah, at this point unless I see a killer deal on it, I'm going to wait. I've waited this long, I can wait a bit longer... assuming it does come out!
I got for novelty. Arcade1up provides that with the variety in it's line up.
Yup, it's one of their main strengths - having a little something for every arcade fan.
Its a great point you make, its actually tiring searching for new arcade games to play when you already have a great collection anyway. So many good games go wasted in your collection if you keep adding. Better to find and keep the ones that keep you coming back for more really.
I mean even just on the ALU you can spend an hour picking the game. I still haven't played all of them - and its "only" 300ish games!
@@evilgeniusentertainment exactly
Completely agreed! A curated collection is a better collection. While every home arcade needs at least one multicade, it shouldn’t stop someone from collecting unique cabs. I would love to add A1U’s Star Wars and Unico’s MVSX to my collection - and honestly, I think I’ll have the all bases covered with that, haha.
Hey, thanks for watching! A strong multicade is the backbone of mos home arcades. They are awesome, particularly for guests who might have wildly different tastes then your own. But more and more, I want the games I know that will wow both wow me & me guests... and those are the specialty cabs.
@@evilgeniusentertainment I'm a proud owner of an ALU in part because I watched your review of it. I don't have any specialty cabs but I certainly see the appeal. I'd love to own a specialty cab with rotary joysticks for with a compilation of games like Ikari Warrior, Guerilla War, Midnight Resistance. Can't get the arcade experience of playing these games as no such cab exists on the market yet.
Specialty cabs are great for unique/hard to emulate control setups, and the one thing the ALU does not do well is vertical games like Pac-Man and Galaga (I mean, they'll emulate fine but be very small thanks to the horizontal layout of the screen). Specialty cabs def have their place (beyond being cool to look at!)
Having been using M.A.M E from the early beginnings decades ago, I've found that there are maybe 100ish games that I repeat play ever so often, and only the top 10 get played with any regularity. The machines I currently own is The Arcade 1Up Dragon's Lair, AtGames Ultimate Mini, AtGames Legends Pinball, and my old... old M A.M E home unit (Needs an update, real bad). In addition, I have pre-ordered the Atgames 4k Pinball Addam's Family and the SSF pre-installed package
I hope that vpin is as good as it looks on video! Yeah, 100 games is probably just about right for most people (not counting vpin tables).....
Each have their pros and cons.
But I generally go for quality, something that will last many years.
Aracade1up are generally cheap quality that will break on you at some point
Love the content. A while back you did a review on the Arcade 1 up Defender Partycade. Do you know if they plan to re-release it. Would love to get one. Thanks, happy new year!
You know, that's one of the great mysteries of A1up - why they haven't re-released that cab? Or put out a a proper Defender cab with the right controller setup? It's weird b/c there is obviously a demand for it. Unless they lost the license, you'd think it'd be a no-brainer to make more.
Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.
Thank you Cestus! Happy almost New Year's!
where did you get the cover photo - cause that matches up with the Hobby Lobby decor thats for sale but reversed.
Just in a hobby lobby today - and yup, they had the exact thing for sale!
@@evilgeniusentertainment so after a bit of investigation...I have id'ed the actual arcade cause the photo was floating around different sites - it is the Arcadehry in the Czech Republic!
No way - that's fantastic! Sweet that it's actually a real arcade (very good detecting Crimefighter!)
@@evilgeniusentertainment I did know of its existence previously. One of the biggest ones in Europe.
Thanks JDV for another insightful video. Just wondered the name of that mini system you received for Christmas? For the price of $25 I wouldn't mind maybe getting one. Speaking of new game systems, have you had a chance to review the Atari Game station Pro at all? Thinking of getting one since you can add your own games to it through an SD card. Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year and all the best in 2024! Thanks. :)
I got the "Gamestation 5" from Aliexpress. Haven't gotten my paws on the Game Station Atari unit yet, but I want too - I think it just got a firmware update too - thanks for watching and for the kind words! Happy New Year!
Tron does have wifi . I agree that less games is better . Even on my modded cabs I only have 10-12 games like DK , Robotron etc . My absolute favourites only.
I don't know how I missed the fact that TRON has wifi... now looking at buying this variety again! Thanks for the heads up. And yeah, there's only so many hours in the day - the less spent scrolling through choices and just playing the better.
@@evilgeniusentertainment I learned that years ago when I was just collecting as many games as I could but playing none of them !
Exactly
The experience and desire to play dedicated cabs is impossible to emulate on a multicade.
Doubly true if the game has a unique control setup like TRON or STAR WARS!
I’ve sold a couple of cabs and downsized to 3. One fighter: SF2 Deluxe, one shooter: Time Crisis, one pinball: ALP HD
Are you interested in either the 4K ALP or ALU?
@@evilgeniusentertainment not really interested in the 4K ALP, mostly because it’s screen is still 60hz. Perhaps the next iteration afterwards I’ll feel it worthy enough to upgrade from the ALP HD (plus my HD already has a haptics kit and back box upgrade). No interest in the new ALU
@@Calwinn yeah, if you're already in that deep with the HD it makes sense to stay put.
20,000 games & 19,950 are crap
That's not too far from the truth!
Definitely, I recently sold off most of my A1up collection and went to the basics. All that’s in my collection now are all different control wise. I’ve got Star Wars, tron, outrun, X-men, old asteroids converted to the switch panel, atgames legends pinball and atgames legends ultimate, sold my T2 and added the buy stuff mod with retro shooter to the atgames ultimate. Definitely worth doing to keep my arcade unique without being redundant in ways. To me this is my perfect collection…well until the XL versions come out 😆😆 then all will be replaced
IF they come out Terry, IF. I mean, it seems like a no-brainer, but A1up has a long history of doing wonky things.
@@evilgeniusentertainment Oh trust me I know, the decision making on things has been wild with them, total head scratcher. But Hopefully they will do all XL remakes 😁 I believe strongly that’s the only way they can inch ahead of where they are at right now.
So weird that they went all-in on deluxes when it's pretty clear that people want the XL's more. Ideally, they would carry both designs for people who don't mind and/or need the smaller Deluxe form factor.
