  • Like playing games? why not have your own arcade?! That's what this collector thought as he spent 15 years amassing hundreds of rare and vintage arcade games and built himself his OWN arcade at his house!
    Another insanely cool collectors tour!

I was born in 79 and watching this caused so many awesome memories to flood back in. Arcades were a BIG part of my life in the early years. Him talking about his public arcade and paying $20.00 to play till closing time reminded me of going to Super Saturday at Putt-Putt Golf & Games back in the early 90’s where we would pay a fee to play from open to 2pm. Most popular game when I started going there was Street Fighter 2, then Mortal Kombat came along and everyone played that, then the Tekken series took off. I played in a lot of tournaments for Tekken 2 and 3. It got so addictive that I’d skip school just to go to the arcade to practice. I miss the arcades so much. Having a console just isn’t the same. I applaud 👏 this man for what he does and for bringing all those game cabinets back to life. Props to you 🤜🤛!

I was born in 79 too. I remember being like 10 or so and one of my friends had his birthday party at a place called Aladdin's Castle (arcade). It was in our mall and we had the place all to ourselves. The mall closed early on Sundays and we got to go there after mall hours. A ton of these games were in that arcade. Definitely a nostalgic trip here with this video.

It will never be the same again, that experience to be a kid in the 80's and stepping into an arcade establishment was like going an amusement park, the people and culture was way more engaging and active, everyone had alot of fun and we talked alot, if it wasn't an arcade we went to roller rings, ice hockey, camping, we did alot of fun things, todays culture can just imagine what it was like but for us 4 quarters was like having gold in our hands, the sounds of bells, rings, laughter, chatter, we are living in awful times today we really are, call us what you want but Gen-X had a blast

Because of the subject matter, I had to move it out and hide it when more religeous folk visited. I sold it for about $1,700 within owning only about a month. Subject matter is everything. BTW, the coin counter only had 500 plays, and I bought it 20+ years old. No One wanted it around! Cool to see one sitting there.

That’s a place I could get lost in for a day! If I’m thinking right, the brand named ones like the Mario machines are a bit more expensive because of the name, definitely rarity is a factor, and the antique value of a game figures into the cost. If you ever get around Farmington Hills, MI, they have a place called Marvin’s Mechanical Museum, that has tons of the original antique arcade games, may be a cool place to see one day.

Alex, you should ask the electronic engineer if he could set up an arcade game you want to put in your basement with optional hookup for wireless earbuds for two players (or just a volume control on the machine might work too). That way your son and a friend could play the arcade game without annoying anyone else in your new house.

Yeah I think I first played Pole position around 1985 at times square in New York. Play land arcade is gone but that was a nice spot to be at. Then there was Coney Island and South Beach on Staten Island. Spent a lot of quarters playing Rastan.

This arcade style is great. It should be as evident in many commercial establishments. It is highly recommendable for all types of age, for them to be as busy, and enjoy details of time and maintenance. Congratulations.

Alex, bring your Simpsons board for him to look at. Most old boards like that are repairable, it's the capacitors that go bad typically or you get a trace that is corroded or damaged. These are simple repairs for people with the knowledge. An eprom issue is a bit worse, you'd need a reader and an original that's working and then reburn it. But it's doable.

Ha. I just left the same comment. Could be a cold solder joint, maybe a chip not fully seated, maybe needs a new ROM chip or the items you suggested.

Um, volunteering someone else? If he wanted an extra job, he’d have volunteered himself! He probably doesn’t have the time. He could probably recommend someone, though.

@@Lucinda_Jackson no what I meant was that non electronics people typically don't realize you can fix these things, they tend to think "well it's bad, need to find a new one". The guy Mathew could probably look it over and know in 30 seconds if it was completely destroyed or if it could be salvaged.

Fast forward to the future: Alex's basement looks like an 80s video arcade complete with black light carpet. :)

We have over 20 pinball games here! Mostly Classics from the 70’s and 80’s. My personal fave is Black Knight 2000!! My stepfather is an electrical/mechanical engineer! He owns Boston Pinball. Make new PC boards that work with older games. And new LED scoring lamps and such. Pinball Wizardry at its Best!
