Anyone guess meteorite? A nickel test kit for jewelery is a good way to tell a meteorite

hhhmmm .......in one angle it looks like a mangled metal jacketed bullet at least whats left of it.........then another angle it looks like some sorta rock..........its not silver I wonder if there is platinum in your area??

Not sure if I have platinum around here. Did not even consider that, will have to do some research and see. I might do a torch test at some point in a safe area to check if it is mercury. When I was panning I do remember seeing something floating at some point and I thought, "Is that Mercury" lol....

Good Idea Arnie, I think I had looked at some of them in the past. But I will take a look again and see if platinum is around here. It kinda would be cool if it was platinum. :)

have you done a scratch test?? apparently if you scratch it on some paper every mineral leaves a different color on the paper.........I have never done it but might help.

yea I scratched it on the back of a non glazed ceramic potter thing. It left a silver/gray line. Seems harder than lead too.
