    Hi Friends! Is this something you would try? As I mentioned, it’s not for everyone, but in a pinch, when you’re out of a re-inker, this will definitely help. I forgot to mention that this won’t work for the long term, as the color will dissipate but if you need to reink your stamp pad, this is my go-to from now on until I get the reinker or buy a new stamp pad. Hope this helps! ♥️

    Another comment. I LITERALLY threw away my DO Candied Apple inkpad yesterday because it had this sticky weird ink residue on top. I just pulled it out of the garbage and sprayed it and WOOOOOW...ink has been restored.

      OMG!!! That’s fantastic, Mary. I think over time, the glycerine ages and becomes a bit sticky. That’s what I’ve noticed on my own old ink pads. Distilled water, fine mist sprayer and glycerine to the rescue! I’m glad this helped! 🥰🥰♥️

    Early in my crafting journey I bought a lot of Ranger dye inkpads in thrift stores and garage sales. When I got them home many of them were already dry. TH-cam's Frugal crafter taught me to make a dye ink refresher by putting a few drops of vegetable glycerine in a sprayer to do the same thing. I resurrected every inkpad and kept them going until last year - about 10 years! It's amazing how much of the actual dye remains in a dry inkpad. I think your fine mister improves on her tip.

      I L O V E Lindsay!! Her vids were my go-to’s when I first got into this “addiction”! I do realize her actual love is “Art”, more than “craft”, but there is no end to the knowledge she has to share.
      THAT SAID … PKEDRM, Have you tried storing your ink pads upside down?? I know at one point there was a “thought” that we were to store Pigment pads face up, and Dye pads down. I think it becomes almost an imperative to store our pads face DOWN when those pads start to dry out and we have no re-inkers available to juice them!! Just a thought …

    Great video. Years back I found a recipe from splitcoast stampers for ink pad refresher. 2 oz distilled water with 2 drops glycerin. Ranger also makes a Ink Pad Refresher and I have used both on my ink pads. The moisture really helps... especially in dry climates.

    Oh my, this is the 2nd video of yours, I’ve watched and learned new tricks. This one is terrific and now I won’t toss my dry pads. I had used water and glycerine in the past, with not knowing to skim across the pad with a spatula and using the paper towel to minimize the glycerine, and of course the mister to avoid excess moisture in spots. First ‘chore’ for me this morning is to work on those stamp pads. I’m going to be a very happy lady….Thanks. You have a new sub I’d because you are “wicked smaht 😊,”

    What a great idea to save money and reduce waste! Many ink pad brands do not have re-inkers available so when they are finished, you have to toss them.
    This technique will only work on water-based inks and not on something like Staz-on which is a solvent based ink. It will also work better on dye-based inks rather than pigment-based inks. Dye-based inks have the colour dissolved in the water -- like liquid food colouring. Pigment-based inks have the pigment particles floating in the water -- like mica powders. The dye-based ink will be pretty much evenly distributed through the pad so it will reactivate really well. Pigment-based pads will like not work as well but heck -- if it's dry anyway, give it a try! I'll be doing this with all my dry pads -- brilliant!

    • @KathyaKalinine
      @KathyaKalinine  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re welcome! Archival ink is an oil-based, solvent ink, so this method won’t work. Pigment ink is water based with small particles that make it behave a little different than dye based inks. If you’re just ready to toss one of your pigment ink pads, try this method first, but not in the archival ink pad. Hope this helps! 🥰

    What does the glycerin do? I’d try this 100% the only thing I noticed with the Catherine ink ( it could just be the video) after misting it seemed like the butterfly was darker. It could be from the ink not being absorbed in the paper yet after making it juicy but that was the only difference I saw. I would totally do it method to rejuvenate my ink pads. Do you think you’d get the same results with the oxide inks?

    • @KathyaKalinine
      @KathyaKalinine  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Dye based inks tend to fade slightly as they dry. Try stamping an image, then let it dry. Then stamp the same image next to the dry one. The new image will always be darker since it’s wet. But it will fade as it dries, just like the ones I stamped. I believe that glycerine is a carrier, if that makes sense. It also helps keep the pad moist and prevent it from cracking. Yes to your question about oxide inks. When mine dry out, I will definitely use this method to rehydrate them. They are also water based inks. Hope this helps! 🥰

    Should it be distilled or not? I have tried tap water (not on ink pads) and it caused things to mold, and saw a video (idk what art supply) that said use only distilled water, because regular h2o can cause product to mold. Do you happen to know if it makes a difference or not? Regardless, I love this hack! TY ❣❣❣

    • @KathyaKalinine
      @KathyaKalinine  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This works for both dye and pigment inks, because they are water based. Unfortunately, I don’t know the ratio or formulation for the hybrid inks. Sometimes, the manufacturers combine hybrid inks with other properties that I am not familiar with. So, if I were you, and you were planning to toss them anyway, try adding some water. But you could also reach out to the manufacturer and ask where you can buy the re-inkers if they still have them or ask what to use to refresh them. I hope this helps!
