The fact that his wife saw him fall in love with another woman, while she gave him everything and been there with him through every step.. And in the end she protected his kids with her after they both died.. Big respect for her, she must've been through a major pain...
What about Mastani? The movie is inaccurate about her relationship with Bajirao was not a fling or just a romance, nor was she his mistress.
In reality, Mastani's father gave her hand in marriage to Bajirao along with a lot of wealth and land. And he accepted the marriage despite the general tradition of monogamy in their family. That could have been because of the wealth she brought or because she was beautiful or both.
The fact that her husband preferred her over his first wife is not necessarily Mastani's fault.
Marriages were never about love in those times. So for his first wife also the issue would have been less about love and more about the husband's preference for a Muslim wife over a Brahmin woman like her or because Bajirao married her instead of just having her as a mistress (which was common even in monogamous Hindu marriages)
Despite being the daughter and wife of Hindu men, Mastani was always mistreated for being the daughter of a Muslim woman. She and her fathers were followers of a sect of Hinduism that worshipped Shri Krishna. And yet her child was not allowed to be formally named Krishna. When she died she was not given a Hindu funeral like her husband and father but was buried.

I wish Bollywood films weren’t so underrated in the West. I’m an American. I’m not Indian in any way, nor have I ever been to India. The closest to Indian culture I’ve been (aside from food) was when I dated an Indian guy in high school. I’m an American girl with a father from Syria and a mother from Sweden, and I’ve grown up in Los Angeles. Nobody showed me Bollywood, I had to find it on my own. When I tell you that as a cinephile, this specific film *took my breath away*. The acting, the writing, the cinematography, the score, the editing, the level of detail in the sets and costumes, the very subtly done CGI in certain parts of the film... completely made me fall in love with both Bollywood and Indian culture, and cemented my decision that I’d work in film one day. Today I’m 24 years old and I work in the Hollywood entertainment industry because Bajirao Mastani changed my life lol.
The director Sanjay Leela Bansali is amazing check out his other works too.

I'm from Sri Lanka... neighboring country..I believe that this is the best movie of Bansali Sir's film collection for now.. Deepika is recognized as a best in the Industry since her first appearance in Om Shanthi Om Movie.. Since then She has reached all the gold in the industry especially with Bansali movies but I think this is her best movie... I couldn't even believe that India could make movie like in such a great level... OMG! Even Hollywood wouldn't be able to even close to make movie in this level... I always respect Bansali Sir as a director, Producer and a Musician as well... This song and all the songs in the movie are absolutely incredible and unbelievable.. the voice of Goshal is amazing... 🤗❤💜️
