Museveni and Kagame would later join hands to invade Congo and oust Mobutu Sese Seko. It's an interesting fact that is not talked about much for some reason.

NO, that’s because they did not oust Mobutu! They joined but failed in 1996 (bcz Mobutu still had Congolese full support when they launched that war) Then museveni suggested they went to seek LD Kabila (an ex Congolese rebel to Mobutu). When WE Congolese saw LD Kabila, a lot of young Congolese joined the Afdl founded in rwanda of course (and
backed by the USA), only bcz we preferred LD Kabila to Mobutu. And we were even more men than the rwandans, ugandan and Burundians combined. That’s how the war against Mobutu was won, basically by Congolese themselves, with museveni and kagame’s help (Bcz we all now wanted Mobutu to go). They don’t have enough weight to face the Congo army without Congolese, even unstable as it’s still is bcz of war
NB: a lot of Mobutu’s men even gave up on fighting, cz they wanted a change too

    • @ben_kas
      @ben_kas ปีที่แล้ว +8

That's not true, Mobutu was ousted by AFDL an army mainly composed of Congolese child soldier and a congolese leadership that brought the lumumbist Kabila to power. We should not forget also that Mobutu's army never fought back since they also wanted him to leave power

This is a very good account of the NRA. One small addition. The Rwandan section within the NRA played an outsized role in helping it capture power. They were highly disciplined and loyal. Paul Kagame was not a bodyguard. He was the Head of Counterintelligence, meaning he reported directly to Museveni and could investigate any unit and anyone in the force. Indeed, Kagame thwarted many internal and external threats to the NRA and also played a major role in keeping the new government ahead of its enemies when it captured power. He became deputy director of intelligence in charge of counterintelligence. Fred Rwigyema was one of the NRA's legendary commanders, second in stature and popularity to Museveni's brother, Salim Saleh who was also his best friend. Saleh and Rwigyema were inseparable. He went on to become Deputy Minister of Defense, meaning he was second in command to Museveni, who held the job of Defense Minister as well as President. Many other Rwandan comrades served at the highest levels of the state and military and the larger administration. All served Uganda with distinction and were never involved in scandals and corruption. Had the two leaders, Museveni and Kagame not fallen out, the alliance between the two countries would have been the most unique story to have come out of the Global South.

Please share us how Gen.Rwigema Fred tookover as the overall commander when M7 left his forces in Luwero triangle for Sweden for a period of 2 years to see his family and on return, he came with Col.Ghadafi's support of some guns.
Then, tell us how Gen.Fred Rwigema, was given orders to leave Luwero side and go to open the western axis wing of from Bukonjo-Rwenzori-Toro-Kabarore-Kisoro-Ntungamo-Mbarara barracks takever over up to meeting the other force he had left in Luwero triangle 2 years before now meeting it Masaka.
Tell us how President Kagame ploted the capture of the civilian Aircraft in the western part that carried 45 people onbaord (civilians)and the capture was orchestrated by Gen.Fred Rwigema (RIP)'s arm under the Paul Kagame's intelligence supply and this plane was used as a tool to negotiate for the release of Lt.Col.Sserwanga Rwanga and his friends who had been captured by the enemy on his way to kampala from the M7 rebels camp as their collaborator.
Dig deep for these details, they are interesting.

You are spot on the discipline and tenacity of rwandese cohort in the NRA. Indeed when they invaded their homeland in 1994 amid condemnations from all over the world, Museveni described them in glowing terms 'they were some of our best boys; whether it is the french or the belgians they won't be able to stop them'.

The point you seem to miss is that it was the very Museveni who was mainly responsible for the chaos that followed the overthrow of Amin after having lost miserably in the 1980 election. Uganda went through severe sanctions during the reign of Amin and the economy had to be rebuilt literally from scratch after his overthrow but of course Museveni decided to wage a war that cost the country dearly. As for being intelligent, I think you might be talking about the wrong person. If he was intelligent the he wouldn't have brutally clung on to power for close to 40 years and counting.

Instead, children who were abandoned due to the killings of the Obote government ran to the NRA for safety, the practicalities necessitated them being trained in order to join the ranks, these child freedom fighters as the like to call them selves were called "Kadogo's". He's still a Ugandan, they talk about it on Twitter although Museveni is tired to reply tweets against them. Where he was born was part of Rwandan colonial territory, before it was integrated on Uganda. Although his father possibly came from Rwandan origin, it's not much a basis for complaining against his origin.

In 1979 Uganda Exiles Led by General Tito Okello and General Bazillio Okello supported by President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and Oginga Odinga of Kenya moved from Mwanza through Lake Victoria and Launched a rebellion that Toppled Idi Amin.Museveni was then in his late 20s to early 30s and fought alongside Tito Okello and Bazillio Okello.2 years later in 1981 VP Oginga supported a coup against MOI of Kenya by Airforce Soldiers led by Hezekiah Ochuka,Pancreas Oteyo,Fenwicks Chesoli,Ogidi Obwon,Walter Odira Ojode and others.
Milton Obote was restored President.Museveni had been Defence Minister under Amin but they disagreed.
After 1981 Elections in Uganda Obote was back to power.Museveni disagreed and went to the Bush and started Luweero War.General Oyite Ojok one of the best trained Army Generals in Uganda History(at least 6 years,Europe,USetc) lost his life in a plane Crash on his way to Luweero. This changed the direction of the conflict.
In 1985 a regional/neponistic disagreement between Obote(a Luo-Langi) and the Okello(a Luo-Acholi) over the promotion of Smith Acak Opon(a Luo-Langi) to Army Commander instead of Bazillio Okello to replace Gen Oyite-Ojok a Luo-Langi resulted in a Coup.Obote was pushed out and fled to Kenya then Tanzania.
General Tito Okello became president and Bazillio Okello became Army Commander. The Army was dominated by Northern Uganda mostly Okello/Obote Luo and Amin Lugbara.
In 1985 Museveni was not happy and wanted Bahima and Ankole and southwest Uganda in army/govt and launched a war against President Tito Okello(GEN).Paul Kagame was his Intelligence Officer and fought in the Uganda Liberation war from 1980-1986.
Paul Kagame had been a refugee in Uganda since age 4 crossing into Rwanda and back severally as he prepared the RPF Liberation movement.
PRESIDENT DANIEL MOI OF KENYA CALLED FOR PEACE TALKS IN NAIROBI IN 1985 BETWEEN PRESIDENT TITO OKELLO(GEN) AND YOWERI MUSEVENI.TITO OKELLO WAS SUPPOSED TO STAY PRESIDENT AND YOWERI VICE FOR THE PEACE PROCESS TO PREVAIL.THE TALKS COLLAPSED.
MUSEVENI CAPTURED POWER IN 1986.TITO OKELLO MOVED TO EXILE IN TANZANIA THEN KENYA.BAZILLIO OKELLO MOVED TO SUDAN.
JOSEPH KONY,DOMINIC ONGWEN,DAVID OTTI,OKOT ODHIAMBO AND OTHER LUO-ACHOLI AND LUO-LANGI WERE INSPIRED BY ALICE AUMA LAKWENA IN NORTHERN UGANDA AND LAUNCHED THE LRA REBEL MOVEMENT IN NORTHERN UGANDA AGAINST MUSEVENI SINCE 1986 TO DATE.
Museveni Became president in 1986.Paul Kagame became his defence minister in Uganda and moved to the US FOR MILITARY TRAINING.In 1990 Fred Rwigema a tutsi like Kagame was head of RPF and had helped Museveni in the Bush.Rwigema was Killed in Battle against soldiers allied to Rwandan president at the time President Juvenal Habyarimana.Paul Kagame came back and launched the Rwanda liberation war in 1994 with the help of Museveni after the killing of Habyarimana.Rwanda was at War.In 2000 he became President.
After Paul Kagame took over he together with Museveni Joined forces with Kabila in 1997 together with Congolese Tutsi(Banyamulenge) and Laurent Kabila took power from President Mobutu Seseseko.
YOWERI MUSEVENI UNDERSTANDS THE GEO-ENVIRONMENT OF THE REGION AND MOI NEVER TRUSTED HIM AFTER THE COLLAPSE OF THE PEACE TALKS BECAUSE OF ALWAYS VIEWING THINGS FROM A MILITARY ANGLE.Moi managed to contain Museveni hence no Migingo during Moi Time.Only Joseph Kony understands Museveni Language. The bush.
