Toby Jones ( who plays the supermarket manager) is such an underrated actor ! Why he hasn’t received an Oscar or at least a golden globe for his work is beyond me !
Toby was so much fun to work with, they all were actually. The memory I have of Toby is from shooting the showdown with Mrs. Carmody, because all of us extras are screaming back and forth as Marcia Gay Harden is trying to take the boy from Thomas Jane, and each time Toby is supposed to shoot her ( which he does, with blanks, LOUD ones ), but each time he'd either let the fight go on a little longer or shoot quickly, so we never knew each take when the gun was going to go off exactly, so it definitely kept us on our toes and scared us each time that loud blank went off. I was standing behind Ms. Harden each time, and would get splattered with her blood squib that would explode inside of her clothes, and I got a pay bump ( a " blood " bump ) because of it. I have a very treasured picture of she and I that was shot right after that scene was done, and her dress is covered in blood. Such an amazing woman!! I'd kill to actually have lines in a scene with her sometime, but this experience was everything and then some.

the actual outdoor location ( which we only shot at one day ) for the grocery store in THE MIST has sadly been torn down as of last year. It was a real grocery store and the design of the indoor set ( both the inside and outside ) was based on that actual location. It was called Tom's Market back then ( was a Piggly Wiggly when I was a kid ), but they rebuilt the store on a soundstage in Shreveport ( the actual store was a half hour north in Vivian, where I went to high school ) where they built the entire store AND the parking lot ( yes, cars and all )...and would keep the parking lot covered in fake mist during shooting on the other side of the glass but god help you if you had to walk through that lot because that Mist smelled awful. Also, in the outdoor scene you see a pharmacy next door...that was a fake exterior put up for that one day only, there was actually nothing on that side of the parking lot, the interior of the pharmacy was built inside on the same soundstage, as was the inside of Thomas Jane's home ( the real home, it's outdoor counterpart is about five minutes from my mom's house on Cross Lake ) and the loading dock scenes ( which used the real loading dock rolling door from the soundstage, which was our expo hall growing up. But RIP Toms Market, there's a damn bank there now, ugh. But the soundstage is still around, it's across the street from our casinos.
For No. 4, they do explain it in the movie. When they confront the soldier while he doesn't provide much in detail he basically does confirm it was military scientists running an experiment in a facility in the mountains. I'll have to re-watch to remember the exact details but I do recall it was some sort of portal to other dimentions. I believe they called it the Arrow Project but I don't recall exactly.
Yup. The neighbor foreshadows this explanation on the drive to the grocery store-mentioning the government doing something shady-mentioning the arrowhead project. And as the soldier who later reveals: the government tried making a window to other worlds. And Mrs Carmody while garbage in every other way-was correct in her response "oh well maybe your window turned out to be a door". The only instance where she was correct factually.
I think creatures came from other side. And the government was doing some kind of experiment to open some kind of portal. So the creatures most likely came from some other planet, or universe.

Minty, I'm so excited you did a video on THE MIST. It was filmed in my hometown of Shreveport as well as surrounding areas, and my friends and I all played supermarket shoppers ( and Mrs. Carmody's crazy followers ) in it. The film business had been in Shreveport for a few years already after being pushed upstate by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and my friends and I had all been doing extra work for fun while also auditioning for small roles ( Shreveport has a huge community/college theatre presence here so a lot of us were already trained ), and getting to know the business well. When THE MIST arrived, they needed a lot of people who would work on it as extras ( they actually auditioned people for the job ), and most of them spent about six weeks inside of our former expo hall which was then turned into a big soundstage for films. The outside scenes of the supermarket were filmed about a half hour north in Vivian, Louisiana. They only shot one day there though, and the rest of the supermarket scenes were all on a soundstage ( even the parking lot of the market was inside, the set was massive ). It was actually the last movie I did extra work on before moving up to speaking roles, and some of the guys got their SAG cards on the movie when they were given a line ( or a scream ). It was some of the most fun I've ever had on a movie set, and we all have so many pictures from that time and still keep in touch with each other. We, the " core extras " as they were called, even got a shout out in Fangoria magazine when they came for a visit one day. If anyone has any behind the scenes questions that I might know the answer to, hit me up. I'd share a picture or two here, but it won't let you do that in the comments.

3:58 Groceries is the product of the grosser, the one who runs the market. The word grosser comes from the latin word crassus which means thick. I believe the idea is the grosser would buy thick or large pieces of meat and then slice them up for individual consumption. It is also where the word gross for disgust comes from... the thick or large paces evolved in to being unappealing compared to refined individual pieces and as such were unattractive. One being gross would refer to their lack of appeal and refinement.
I have to admit I was one of those people that loved the movie, but absolutely hated the ending! That’s when I first saw it in the theaters, of course, but overtime as I’ve watched the movie a few more times, I realized the director delivers a powerful message with the ending he chose, “never lose hope.”

Unfortunately.. human nature can make monsters that are more horrible than the creatures banging on the windows… terror… anxiety.. fear… can force people to do unspeakable things… In my opinion it was well portrayed in the mist. Not that I have ever experienced REAL trauma from watching movies but the Mist and only maybe 1 or 2 other movies in my 50 years have ever come close to that, and the reason the Mist did is because I’m a father and that perfect, horrible, heart wrenching ending. Well done Minty 👏🏻
A great movie with a gut-punch ending. Never seen the black & white version... hell... never even knew it existed until now, but with the few clips you showed of it, I was impressed. Gives it kind of a 50s vibe and it absolutely works. I need to see the b&w version ASAP.
Minty you should do a retro live stream. nothing better than a Friday retro night where we get to see your blockbuster in your house to find a movie to watch and then stream your own video!
This movie is an underrated horror movie! Dead Meat and Redlettermedia did give it the appreciation I wish it got! It's also one of those movies that should be watched at least once in a lifetime, and even has a lot of Twilight Zone vibes. The director's cut probably has an unofficial sequel in my eyes, that being the 2019 horror movie, The Lighthouse. Also, on a sidenote, I really appreciate performances in this movie from Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Sam Witwer, William Sadler, and the late Andre Braughter. Jane is that flawed hero you like to root for, and Harden is the easy to hate misguided weasel. Sam Witwer is also the actor who inspired me to want to do impressions of certain people in the entertainment industry, and I thank him for that with his flawless Palpatine voice! Keep up the content, Minty!
I live in Bangor Maine, thank you so much for releasing this on a day where a literal toxic fog (from fires caused by the recent hurricane) is covering the town this morning

The black and white smooths some rough cg edges and adds to the retro creature feature vibe. One of my fave horror movies.
love to re-watch this one. never saw the series or even heard about it. great job Minty!!!
What a great movie. Worth multiple watches. A classic now 😂👌👍
I totally remember this film that I watched some years ago. Anyways, it was pretty mind boggling, if I may say so myself! I love ALL the older flicks you upload bro! @MintyComedicArts you're simply one of the REALEST! I don't even know how long and how much I've watched your uploads, most of them 2 or 3 times! Thank you very much Mark!!!
Minty, your videos make my week.
Keep doing you Brother, I’ll be there to give you support. 👍🏽
Crazy ending. Love this film. Hate the religious lady
She was right though sadly, king is an asshole lol
In every single book/movie King has, there has to be a crazy Christian. It's tired and boring.
It's a common troupe in Stephen King stories.
Why would you
@@Miller54K I know they are I wish they would do one, I hate all religion equally, so I'm not baist
you missed he was painting Roland from the Dark Tower. Spot on everything thing else Minty.
glad someone pointed that out.
Lol, I love yummeries!!! 😋
Unfortunately.. human nature can make monsters that are more horrible than the creatures banging on the windows… terror… anxiety.. fear… can force people to do unspeakable things… In my opinion it was well portrayed in the mist. The black and white version … reminds me of the old twilight zone episodes… so yes it adds a dimension(no pun intended) of urgency and chaos… thanks for sharing Minty
This movie is really a classic gem that’s not appreciated enough❤
Thanks Minty M8, this is one of my all time favourite films of all time.
Thanks Minty, you’re channel isn’t past its prime at all. Speaking for myself and I’m sure others feel the same, you never let down.
Man you’re great, you’re like comfort food when you need a break from the horrible things in the world. I mean you put R’s in words that don’t have them but that’s part of your charm ❤️jk
11:13 Minty, they explain that the creatures are from another dimension opened at the nearby military base
Watched on Tubi for free just days ago. A truly outstanding and harrowing film. Brilliant
The ending...never felt so depressed after a movie's ending after seeing this one.
This was one of my favorite books and movies. Enjoy your channel. Keep doing more.
If there's two things I know about The Mist from when I had Sky Movies:-
1. It's truly despicable villain (Mrs Carmody) a fine example of the dangers of religious fanaticism & tribal thinking gone out of control!
2. Its spiteful, mean-spirited, cruel, sadistic & soul destroying ending! JESUS! THAT WAS NASTY!
point (1) I would have just shot her ... point (2) yes and so much better for it, I love downer endings.
Was I the only one who actually cheered when someone finally took out that crazy, religious fanatic, Mrs. Carmody?? I was like, “YEEEESSSSS!!! THANK YOU!!!” 😁😁 People like her give religion a bad name.
hey minty, keep up the great work!! the TV series was filmed in my home town in Nova Scotia Canada. my daughter was runnner up for the part of the young girl in the series
That's awesome, the movie version was filmed in my hometown, I'm one of the shoppers. But I actually liked the tv show and was sad it didn't get a second season, as different as it was from the original and story. Is your daughter working on " FROM ", I hear they film that there, I adore that show!! Would kill to be in it lol
I'll have to check out the Black & White version!
Love your channel!
Man this movie has one the best/ worst endings ever. Love your takes on movies and the behind the scenes information.
Minty ....this is one of the most underrated horrors! Love the Walking Dead cast 😁 and such an amazing ending 🤣
Also, Shawshank and Green Mile.
This is one of those movies that i can watch over and over again.
I always assumed the military had performed some kind of multi dimension experiment and pulled the creatures into our universe.
Spoiler*
@@Cybersamuraidave err ... the clip is called "10 things you did not know about ...."
@daviddowsett1658 and Minty said what he assumed was the reason why they were there. He assumed one thing, i assumed a other. Maybe neither of us were right.
They did. They actually say so in the movie, just not at the very beginning. I guess Minty just missed that but or forgot it though.
That "alternative beginning" is what was intended to make it an unofficial sequel to Half Life.
the black n white version disguises the outdated cgi effects, plus makes it a bit more creepier
I do love it in black and white!
Love how the Half-Life games formed an unofficial companion piece
"The Mist" could play in the same universe as the "Cloverfield" movies imo.
OMG!!! I just popped opened a can of pineapple chunks at the very second, when I was listening to you say “Pineapple chunks” at the crack. I don’t eat them often so it was an eerie coincidence, I love it! 🍍 I love your attitude about plateauing! I love your channel! It’s insightful and fun!
I got the Blu-Ray years ago and only watched the color version. Had a film loving friend over, we decided to go with the black and white version and I don't think I'll ever watch the color version again. The SFX work so much better in black and white.
I totally agree. I have the blu-ray too and have never watched the colour version.
Honestly i love seeing Mints in my TH-cam app. The material is well written and you sure are a character my dude. That jam at the end of your videos plus when you duck out of camera view sideways under your coffee table or the visibility of the camera is your thing holmes. Your the man Mints
‘Misty’ Comedic Arts time!!!🎉
Your channel is definitely not past its prime, Minty! You are the most enjoyable cinema youtuber I know!
love this movie, and that ending chef’s kiss!
Oh and on the subject of your channel, I love your channel, and prefer it over other channels that supposedly are telling some true info about the making of a movie, I in fact watched another channel recently that was supposed to be doing what you do, but it just wasn't as good and had very little real info. I mean you have 507k subs, so there are a lot of us who love your channel, so please keep doing what you're doing!
the 'crazy' lady in the store says that the boy must die for the mist to end. then when boy dies , the mist ends . she was right
Jesus must always be sacrificed and die for problems to go away.❤
I really enjoy your channel!
I cannot WAIT to show this movie to my sister! She’s gonna BAWL at the end 😂
One of the heartbreaking endings ever!
"Looking for Mr. Goodbar" with Diane Keaton.
I'm STILL traumatized....
Me: trying to nap
Minty: 10 things you didn’t know about the mist!
Me: never mind the nap!
I've always loved this film! ❤10/10!
Minty should do a video on 10 things you don't know about Minty
You’re too hard on yourself Minty. Great video!
Another great video, thank you. No matter how hard my day was,you light it up💐
I live in Bangor Maine, thank you so much for releasing this on a day where a literal toxic fog (from fires caused by the recent hurricane) is covering the town this morning
Minty, I genuinely love your videos. I've learned so much about movies & directors I've enjoyed. Keep em coming!!
🌻🍁🍄
The ending was worse than a gut punch. 😅
I love this channel!! Never miss a episode! Been watching for years. I even watch some more than once😊
Does anyone have a spare revolver bullet round just asking😅
I believe the word grocer came from merchants who traveled around selling their goods by the gross. And they were referred to as grossers.
Fred Claus is one of my go to Christmas movies, I watch it every year.
That ending hits different after you've had kids. The balls it took to make that ending...yuge!
Great Video. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. That ending still haunts me ngl
Your channel is NOT past its prime Minty!!
It is, I’m afraid. It’s what happens when you build a channel around one specific theme and that theme begins to dry up. Minty will begin running out of movies he’s enthusiastic in discussing or the audience is largely familiar with. He’s getting to that point.
Just what I needed for my Friday drive to work, keep it up minty!
The ending was very messed up and it drew a lot of controversy when the film was released.
I find it ballsy.
The worst part about the ending is that the kid wakes up
As a father of three boys, I couldn’t do it no matter what was happening
The *horror* of it all. Leaving the outcome ambiguous is fine for a novella and creepy in itself, but I don't think there's anything more effective than witnessing the ending we got with real people.
Saw this movie with my younger brother...both of us in our 50s, but I had a Very young daughter!!
"You'll, LOVE IT....especially the ending!!!"
I Just About cried, Literally.....would I have done that to my daughter??!!
