DM63 is a lot more than just being consistent at lower temperatures. It's an APFSDS with a Grade 5 when it comes to IM (insensitivity), this mean the only way you can get rid of it is setting the ammunition on fire that will *very slowly* burn away, of course, Leopard 2s have fire extinguishers dedicated to just the ammunition. It's practically impossible to make DM63 explode according to available documentation. That would remove the biggest drawback of the vehicle, making it pretty much perfect in War Thunder.
But the APFSDS armor penetration performance, in comparison to DM53 is what the video was referring to. Not the slower burning powder or the ammo not going boom in controlled environments

@h The fact that something is easy to kill means basically nothing if it has everything else going for it. The CV90105 XC-8 is op imo, I own it and have fought against it. Gen 2 thermals, 5 sec autoloader, DM33, speed, drone. It has everything but armor. The survivability onion says it, don't get seen or shot in the first place. The CV90 just has to not get seen or hit, and it's a monster.
it's really quick, has a quick autoloader, good ammo and gun and good thermals. I would say that it actually is OP and for sure at this low br and with this spam. I'm trying to play my T-64A but the CV's just make it near impossible since they always are at some spots behind you or at the edge of the map camping your team. They are too low for something that faces tanks without thermals

the 2017 report is already a bit outdated and alot was fiixed. In respect to the Puma and its display colors, it depends on the version. Base version (A0) uses monochromatic displays, the VJTF version has full colored displays etc.
Nice vid! While the german army has massive problems with low readyness and lack of spares, you also gotta consider the german way of reporting that something is "not fully ready". A broken taillight is already considered "not fully combat ready" in their system.
Not to mention vast majority of militaries have similar readiness rates to Germany. US included. Sure there have been some exceptions like how in 2018 or 2016 Germany had only 5 ready typhoons when Germans found some issues with them

The state of our military really is a shame given that we are 6th place in global military spending. But also you have to be careful about the readiness rates as the definitions for that are quite vague so vehicles that could be operational in case of attack but need servicing are also counted as inoperable afaik.

Just look at the F-35 program which had a troubled history but worked out pretty well in the end. And now, over a decade later after the Puma started developing its current form, there still is nothing comparable in service in other armies.

This puma shit is still going on. The funny part is recently there was a letter from the Major General of the 10th Panzerdivision to the ministry of defense where he stated that all of their 18 Pumas are inoperable. 1 puma even had a cable fire in the drivers space
DM63 doesn't explode so that in itself is already much better than DM53. Shell performance doesn't get better until DM73 and DM73Neo fired from the L/55A1 on the 2A7.

Me: Leopard 2PL my precious Spookston: *well achtually you're not able to spawn it in because Poland doesn't exist in the game as it was an export, plus it had more issues than you'd think so a chance for failure on any component is increased by pi^2(2.4153)/the golden ratio so only one can be spawned and it isn't even fully working, and most of the thermals and sights aren't able to be repaired or kept up to date so you might as well get out and look with your own eyes* *puts Leopard 2PL back on the shelf

Well Germany is sometimes unfairly displayed by the media when it comes to "ready" tanks. Opposite to Russia who designates the wrecks of T72s as operable tanks, Germany designates a Leopard 2 as inoperable if merely a breaking light malfunctions. (Yes German tanks have normal lighting like cars). This doesn't mean they couldn't be used in a conflict though.
I saw that you recently played the Chi Nu and were impressed with the post pen. I would suggest any of the Swedes with the 75mm (STRV DT combines it with an autoloader) that packs a staggering 110g of explosive filler meaning that those tanks have equivalent post pen explosive power of the Nashorn stock ammo.
I should clarify the main problem that I have with it is the fact that you could shoot someone in the side with the ATGM and it will feel like it did almost no damage I did that to a Samoa SM and it only turned is ready rack yellow😢.

I think is still really strong due to being able to fire on the move and the gunner sight being on the atgm (for some reason). I think its main drawback is that the slow atgm is not good for long range. The only thing that scares me are xm1s or merkavas

Which is completely absurd because it’s got a soft kill active protection system and even if you somehow managed to hit it it’s got chemical protection everywhere.

A lot of this is wrong. Inoperable means not disabled or lack of parts for service and repair, it includes vehicles that didn’t pass the German TÜV inspection which can be caused by a turn signal malfunction otherwise the tank/vehicle can be fully Operational. These numbers also include vehicles with empty fuel tanks because they’re technically inoperable. And there’s no chance any vehicles crash or malfunction because of missing parts because vehicles that actually miss parts are definitely not passing any inspection or are sent out to combat. There’s also no information about DM63 not detonating when hit directly with an RPG ( yes against the naked shell case ) , so it’s basically impossible to get ammo racked by the front or rear ammo rack of the Leo contrary to popular belief ( many people bring it up as a negative point about the leopard hull ).

I've always wondered about the AHEAD in game, doesn't feel quite right having to use manual rangefinding to set the distance. Tbh the rangefinder shouldn't be needed at all for timed fuze shells, that's not how they all worked anyways (flak 88 etc)

I think someone has said this somewhere before but the words 'inoperable' is frequently used in german reports in terms of their equipment, like, literally, small parts missing from a leopard or jet? (Like small parts that really won't affect the tank in of itself, ex. Would be like missing a washer or a fitting for a part that doesn't majorly affects the vehicle's combat ability) will be considered to be inoperable and would be sent to maintainance or be grounded till said small part ot parts have been found or replaced So most likely those 'inoperable' tanks may actually be operational and can move around in the field without major issues, but hey, who am i to know how stuff operate in another country, this is just second hand info xD

the Coaxial MG Spend Link Chute on the leopard 2 is badly designed, caused it to clog up and Jamming the coaxial MG. there is usually a Crew modification done to replace the factory chute with one out of Cardboard.
Great Video, the low readiness rates come from very strict standards for German military equipment. Meaning that minor things can cause the vehicle to be labeled: not fit for combat.

Age of the engines wouldn't surprise me. Those tanks have been knocking about since the 1980s, and if the power-packs haven't received many rebuilds or replacements (if at all), then of course they'll be old. The question to be asked is "how knackered are engines?" If they're not doing too badly, then it's okay and there's plenty of time to tackle the issue. But if crews are struggling to keep their Leos mobile, then you have a serious issue.
@@86pp73 They're being overhauled (rebuilt) for the new upgrades currently, Leopard 2A7Vs propulsion systems were completely overhauled, with engine prepared for an uprating to 1630hp, new final drives with new gear ratios and transmission was updated with newer parts to be ready for higher power transfer. The same will be done to Leopard 2A6s that will be upgraded to Leopard 2A6MA3 and MA4 standard starting next year.

Factually false, where on earth did you even get 10% readiness rate for the F35s? regardless it sits around 69%, you should properly read the sources you use before using them, the numbers you are giving are not their readiness rates, the figure you are giving for the F35 in regards to the 30% (which is actually 36%) is in regards to fully mission capable, i.e. they can perform every mission they are tasked with (the F35 is a multirole jet) the US only wants this at 50% anyways, also these numbers are outdated, we don't know what they currently are, in regards to the F22, that isn't surprising, they aren't being made anymore so I am sure parts are getting harder to get.

Yea that isn't how that works, firstly the US has a much larger standing military, and they also have significantly more military equipment, lets break it down:

Tanks: About 6000

Aircraft carriers: 11
Submarines: 68
Destroyers: 92
German Military

Armoured Vehicles: 9000 ish

Aircraft Carriers: 0
Submarines: 6
Destroyers: 0
The US has almost 8x the personnel, they have 21x more planes, 22x more tanks, 5x more armoured vehicles, 6x more ships, they actually have aircraft carriers, 11x more submarines, etc, and this isn't even all of it, there are heaps of military equipment types that I have left out, in which the US has substantially more military equipment.
Also lets go through your figure of 20x greater, back in 2021 Germany spent about $56 billion on their military and the US spent about $740 billion, which is around 13.2x greater, which is also an insignificant number when you realise the German military is significantly smaller then the US's in regards to personnel and military equipment, $56 billion should be enough for the German military to take care of their smaller amount of personnel and military equipment, and yet they regularly fail to do so, the German government realised it was so unprepared for war after Russia invaded Ukraine that the German government decided to spend €100 billion ($112.7 billion USD) on their military not long after Russia invaded, and last time I checked that is only 6.25x less.

The state of our military really is a shame given that we are 6th place in global military spending. But also you have to be careful about the readiness rates as the definitions for that are quite vague so vehicles that could be operational in case of attack but need servicing are also counted as inoperable afaik.

Just look at the F-35 program which had a troubled history but worked out pretty well in the end. And now, over a decade later after the Puma started developing its current form, there still is nothing comparable in service in other armies.

Well Germany is sometimes unfairly displayed by the media when it comes to "ready" tanks. Opposite to Russia who designates the wrecks of T72s as operable tanks, Germany designates a Leopard 2 as inoperable if merely a breaking light malfunctions. (Yes German tanks have normal lighting like cars). This doesn't mean they couldn't be used in a conflict though.

I saw that you recently played the Chi Nu and were impressed with the post pen. I would suggest any of the Swedes with the 75mm (STRV DT combines it with an autoloader) that packs a staggering 110g of explosive filler meaning that those tanks have equivalent post pen explosive power of the Nashorn stock ammo.

I think is still really strong due to being able to fire on the move and the gunner sight being on the atgm (for some reason). I think its main drawback is that the slow atgm is not good for long range. The only thing that scares me are xm1s or merkavas

A lot of this is wrong. Inoperable means not disabled or lack of parts for service and repair, it includes vehicles that didn’t pass the German TÜV inspection which can be caused by a turn signal malfunction otherwise the tank/vehicle can be fully Operational. These numbers also include vehicles with empty fuel tanks because they’re technically inoperable. And there’s no chance any vehicles crash or malfunction because of missing parts because vehicles that actually miss parts are definitely not passing any inspection or are sent out to combat. There’s also no information about DM63 not detonating when hit directly with an RPG ( yes against the naked shell case ) , so it’s basically impossible to get ammo racked by the front or rear ammo rack of the Leo contrary to popular belief ( many people bring it up as a negative point about the leopard hull ).

I think someone has said this somewhere before but the words 'inoperable' is frequently used in german reports in terms of their equipment, like, literally, small parts missing from a leopard or jet? (Like small parts that really won't affect the tank in of itself, ex. Would be like missing a washer or a fitting for a part that doesn't majorly affects the vehicle's combat ability) will be considered to be inoperable and would be sent to maintainance or be grounded till said small part ot parts have been found or replaced
So most likely those 'inoperable' tanks may actually be operational and can move around in the field without major issues, but hey, who am i to know how stuff operate in another country, this is just second hand info xD

Age of the engines wouldn't surprise me. Those tanks have been knocking about since the 1980s, and if the power-packs haven't received many rebuilds or replacements (if at all), then of course they'll be old. The question to be asked is "how knackered are engines?" If they're not doing too badly, then it's okay and there's plenty of time to tackle the issue. But if crews are struggling to keep their Leos mobile, then you have a serious issue.
@@86pp73 They're being overhauled (rebuilt) for the new upgrades currently, Leopard 2A7Vs propulsion systems were completely overhauled, with engine prepared for an uprating to 1630hp, new final drives with new gear ratios and transmission was updated with newer parts to be ready for higher power transfer.
The same will be done to Leopard 2A6s that will be upgraded to Leopard 2A6MA3 and MA4 standard starting next year.
