I'd like to state that for an 18 year age-stated bottle, $50-$70 is VERY budget. That's $2.78-$3.89 per year. For reference, even the big bourbon distilleries that are on the cheap end (Russell's 10 year, Knob Creek 9/12) are more in the $4.12-$6 per year range. And those are - at most - 2/3 the age of the Dewars 18. A lot of brands are even more, often in the $10/year range and up. So while a price tag of $70 might not be budget, compared to other age-stated whiskies it falls very much in the budget category.
And yes, I get that the quality of the whiskey matters more than the age, and I agree. But age adds things to whiskey you can't get any other way, and every year in the barrel increases rarity and cost with no return. So the fact that they can put out 18 year old whiskey, at $50-$70, without having to add a ton of apple flavor (cough CROWN ROYAL cough) is a great deal.
I got the Dewar’s Double Aged 18 Year for $39 last month on sale at a supermarket. I couldn’t pass it up. Even has a nice metal tin.
I think an easy way to show off craft AND have 50 tribe episodes is to do a spotlight on each state. You don't need go over every whiskey or distillery in the state but 3-4 distilleries so the people in that region or traveling to that region can find that bottle.
This is a great idea, but I don't think all 50 states need their own episode. For example, here in North Dakota, we have three (3) distilleries (four if you count one that is sourcing everything and doing zero whiskey). One is doing "meh" whiskey , one is doing mostly garbage (their bourbon is YOUNG sourced juice that they rapid-age, and their self-distilled single malt is even younger with more rapid aging that makes it taste awful), and one that is focused on sugarbeet vodka, but they offer a wheat whiskey I haven't tried. So does ND need it's own episode? No. However, you could probably combine a few states occasionally for an episode. For example, maybe do a "midwest" episode that highlights ND, SD, and Nebraska? Could hit the best from all three in one shot.
Watching Rex almost pull a groin muscle trying not to like a corporate scotch is good TV .. "Yeah, it's really good, but it's damned DEWER'S!!"

Dewar's stopped producing one of my favorite budget Scotches years ago, which was their 12-Year Special Reserve. Their standard 12-Year "The Ancestor" is good, but the 12-Year Special Reserve was, to me, the best Scotch ever for the price, which was somewhere around $30. I managed to save several bottles when I heard it was being discontinued, and I am only enjoying them once in a blue moon so I don't run out. If you can get your hands on a bottle, I highly recommend it and would love to see you guys review it!
Ha, was up at the Dewar's Aberfeldy distillery in Scotland today. I know they are part of Bacardi but the staff are awesome and the bar onsite is excellent set in beautiful surroundings.

I'm really happy you guys like this one even though that's just silly. I've discovered that Dewar's 18 delivers amazing value in the blended scotch category. I always like drinking this after a month long dry-spell because I get amazing flavor depth and mouthfeel on a fully reset palate. Much better than any Johnnie Walker or any other blended scotches I've managed to try costing $60~$70 or less.
It's a good one for anyone who's either starting out or have come full circle back from high proof bottles like me.
Dewar's is doing higher age statements now! those are pretty good. hope someone send them to you to try!

I'm in PA so I'm usually limited on what we can get, but they have the 21 year old Dewar's Double Aged, at 46% ABV, for $49.99. They don't have the 18 yr old listed though, but I'm ok with that since the 21 is available.
Dewars White Label is a very approachable Scotch. I started with Jameson, then Dewars and moved on to Bourbon

We once camped by a family that had a small child that slept with the radio playing it was not loud or annoying. The last night the station they played was changing format from country to another genre. So the station played one song for the last 24 hours - achy breaky heart. Dewars Japanese smooth release is my favorite “cheap” bottle.
Aqua!!!!! I had that cd in my car for the longest time and would crank it up anytime I had to pick up my younger siblings or nieces and nephews from school to try and embarrass them lol
That bottle was found in a dusty box on the bottom shelf way in the back. It was made when the previous blender was there.
I also paid 88$ for it.

I've gotten tired of a whiskey halfways through before. Happened with Weller Antique 107 for me recently. Maybe if I let it sit for awhile I'll come back around.
On the subject of things that are hard to find that would be so much simpler if shipping was a thing, I just recently found Smoke Wagons on a local shelf for the first time, and it's legitimately the best whiskey I've had in that price range. On that note, have you reviewed Smoke wagon?
