You all have done what most would consider the absolute best job at being honest, highlighting the interesting aspects of whiskey (whether that be people or process), and made it fun to follow along and learn along the way. This is nowhere near the end my friends. You just wrapped up chapter 1. Cheers to both of you and everyone on the team.

Back to the first days of the Whiskey Vault Channel, when Daniel did his first Advent calendar tastings, I started my Whiskey Journey with you all and I bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 as you couldn't stop talking about it. I couldn't drink it but over time, I learned. I learned so much, I started teaching people about whiskey and everything drinks. I now work as a consultant in the alcohol industry.
That bottle of Lagavulin 16, I kept. As a memento of how far I came in my whiskey journey but it only had maybe two drams left. I'm drinking that today.
To signify the end of your journey together. I know it's not the end but just a different path but I can't tell you in any other way how much you all have influenced me. Thank you Daniel and Rex for all you've done for the entire MB community. To Fighting, Stealing and Drinking 🥃

I moved to Japan about 5 years ago and gradually this channel became my refuge to listen to some good, old-fashioned, friendly American banter over a drink. Living in a foreign culture, it was a connection to a life and language I had left behind. I had no idea how strong that connection was until today when I suddenly felt like a part of my very being was ripped out. Words can’t express my gratitude to you guys!!

To Daniel: It's been a great journey. You'll do amazing things and it's been amazing to witness everything.
To Rex: You don't need permission for anything. You've earned the respect and admiration to make these decisions. Stepping Stone is an excellent name to adopt. It's amazing to watch the journey of every individual that comes in and moves on. It's part of the experience.
To all of you at Crowded Barrel. I've watched your videos for a long time, but it's this episode that has convinced me to formally join the tribe on Patreon. This channel is what made me adventure and experiment to find the whiskey I like. It's what drives me to try brands I've never heard. I look forward to the new adventures and where the future takes us.

When I first found this channel it was about a month or so into the pandemic and it was so great to have a relief from the bad news. To see people who wanted to try new things, learn, and build something was uplifting. Watching two people be friends and work together on an awesome project having fun along the way made me hope for a time when I could have a drink with a friend again. Thank you Daniel for showing Green Spot it’s one of my favorite whiskies now. Thank you both for the hard work and for having a philosophy about people building each other up and growing together.

The impact these 2 have had on the world of Whiskey is outrageous. Collectively, every distiller should be thanking them for boosting sales and making whiskey cool again. It’s funny, in the last two months I have been struggling with change. With my son showing symptoms of neurological issues and in turn turning me into a temporary stay at home dad, I wasn’t ready for this episode. This channel has been my escape for years and being able to be apart, even as just an audience member, of the amazing shenanigans that this tribe creates has been a pleasure. This episode truly helped me come to terms with the thought that even though change happens, they’re just stepping stones to a new chapter, good or bad. Takeing it a day at a time, I want to say thank you to Rex and Daniel for everything you bring, the joy, and laughter is our(the tribes) escape. I think stepping stones is a good idea Rex, follow your heart and take us on the journeys you have. We, as a tribe, have your back.

You’re such a phenomenal storyteller, Rex. Often times we see the fun, silly side of your production and that creates the caricature and persona that’s needed to balance the scenes that you two shoot together. But this video truly demonstrates your talent for capturing the threads of a narrative and weaving them elegantly and poignantly together into something beautifully heartfelt. As much as this was a goodbye to the way of things we grew used to, it’s also a powerful reminder that there’s so much more to come. Can’t wait to be along for the next chapter of the journey!

Years ago... our neighbors all got together and had a whiskey tasting party. We had no experience and no idea what we were doing, we just decided to do it. It went off the rails pretty fast. This was the first week of January 2017. I had enjoyed an Irish Whiskey and thought, I wonder if anyone makes videos talking about how to drink whiskey - like am I even doing it right? I did a search and found a couple of videos - one of them being some guy with a long beard and a giant necklace like he was in Run DMC. It was interesting and listening to him talk about Teeling (Dec. 16, 2016) wasn't just educational, but I felt like it was not pretentious and wasn't dive bar-y, it was fun. So I started watching videos occasionally and after several episodes this random new guy shows up. At first I was like, hey what's with the goofiness, don't mess this up! Turns out, whether they were acting or not, they really seemed to have fun and enjoy each other, and all of a sudden I had another reason to enjoy it. It wasn't just learning about whiskey, it was hanging out with friends. I'll spare you the rest of the story, and I faithfully followed along for years, but eventually also went off and did my own thing (clearly since I'm 5 months late on this), but Daniel (and Rex), thank you for creating something that has educated people, but more importantly a community everyone can feel they are a part of. Slainte!

For someone who has followed you for sooooo long (before you reached a 1000 subs) this hurts a bit. You explained it perfectly and it also makes sense. But you guys are the reason I have started my whisky journey, the reason I have tasted well over 300 incredible whiskies. I am very thankful for that. And I will always be around to see what new great things the tribe and the vault and all the magnificent bastards have in stock. But this is very bittersweet.😢😢 It feels like the end of a long journey and not knowing what comes next. You are a dynamic duo and that made it special . Change is natural but also sometimes hard to accept. Especially when the change comes before I had the chance to make my trip to the fang and feather 😆 but I hope when I make it there it's a day where the both of you are their, so I can thank you properly for the entertainment and knowledge I gained through you two. Thank you for the wild ride and all the whiskies I found because of you both of you. And hopefully the future will be even better and brighter.

This is a difficult change to accept, but I think a change that will continue to enrich the whiskey community as a whole. I love Rex, and I enjoy his energy and charisma. But I've always related more to Daniel. As a teacher and brewer, I connected with the way he presented his knowledge. I enjoy Daniel's balance of goofy and serious. But I think we have to remember that the mark he leaves on Crowded Barrel will not go away. While Rex may have been the "boss," I cannot imagine how much he learned from Daniel. And his impact on the other staff or casts of characters will carry on.
Rex: Daniel is right. And so are the Bastards. You spent a big chunk of the video bragging about how good your people are. And while we do miss those who have moved on to other adventures, our lives and our relationship with Crowded Barrel is deeper because we got to know those people. You may be the "face," but you know this...your people are the heart. And if anything, the Whiskey Tribe is about heart. So don't be afraid to show us the "heart" of Crowded Barrel. Don't be afraid to let us "fall in love" with your motley cast of characters. It is indeed that openness and genuine nature of the Whiskey Tribe that has made so many of us feel like part of the family. I've had the chance to meet you and Banana, walk around the property with Richard, and spend a couple of hours talking fermentation and sharing beers with Kyle. Someday they may move on, but my connection to Crowded Barrel is so much deeper because I got to know them...the people...the heart.
I am excited for what is next. But sometimes what is next upsets what is right now, and that can be hard. But it is almost always worth it.
    Much love
    Jason from WoodGrain
P.S. Drink that stout before it gets too old!!!

Honestly, respect to both of y’all. This ain’t good-bye, it’s the welcoming of a new era, and it’s not Dan leaving because of negativity, it’s to bring in new positivity. I can’t imagine how difficult it’s been for y’all, and I hope y’all’s new work flow is healthy and beneficial for all involved. A few things...
First, I think when people come and go, we as the audience fully understand that these things happen and we celebrate it. It's additive rather than subtractive. I think what is important is that there is resolution for the community, even if that's two or three minutes of a video where the two of you are talking, saying what the next opportunity is (if appropriate), and wishing them well. And if there's bad blood, just addressing it and wishing them well rather than hiding it.
Second, I can't wait to see the kinds of stories that come up on the other channel!
Third, I hope Daniel shows up from time to time, even if it's cameos. The two of you have such a great chemistry on screen.

Rex and Daniel, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the model you have, you should actually be proud of the fact that you have helped people develop skills that allows them to move on. It makes for a healthy and happy environment. I've worked at places that did their best to keep talent on hand and not let them go, they took it to such extremes that people burnt out and just "rage quit" and completely walked away from their field because it was traumatic for them. I was one of those that walked away because of that situation, from two very fulfilling careers.

You guys created a "True" family at Crowded Barrel. The people you have brought in and have moved on are our (Tribe's) children and like any family it is a sad day when that child moves on and spreads their wings. The crowd sourced model that the Tribe has created just make the whiskey community even better. Highlight the hell out of your people and show the world the great things that can be done when a group of whiskey nerds get behind a project like Crowded Barrel. It may be sad but both the Wizard Academy and Crowed Barrel will be even stronger with this change. The formats may be different moving forward but the base of each will stand strong. I raise a glass to the end of this chapter, insert It's Raining Men" here, and break the seal on two new beginnings. Chears you Magnificent Bastards!

From the pandemic and it's lock downs through to more personal trying times, I could always watch you two together and just feel like I was at the pub with some mates. I have recommended so many people to check out your channels just for this very reason. Needless to say this came as some what of a shock, and to be honest I didn't know it would effect me on such a level. Like a mate having to move away, or leave work for a new opportunity. Your happy for them and their opportunity, but you are also a bit sad on the inside because you will miss what you had. You guys are so phenomenal at what you do. The benchmark as far as this style of content goes in my opinion. You have achieved so much and only going on to achieve bigger and better things. Thank you for everything you have given us over the years. You clearly weasled your way into a lot of our hearts. Been watching the Vault and the Tribe videos for about 6 years now. I had started collecting whiskies a few years earlier, and found I was able to purchase many of the bottles once I had seen them reviewed, or others from the brands core ranges, so it was very handy having some reference or guidance over the years as my collection grew (over 350 bottles due mostly to the Vault videos). Rex was new to the videos when I started watching, and he was the perfect foil to Daniel with his whiskey knowledge base. You two have such a great chemistry together.......much the same way, when I think about it....to the old TV series The Odd Couple....you are similarly so different as they were.....but you always had fun, and made learning new things about whiskey fun. And of course I would be remiss, not to mention, the hilarity, the high jinks, the shenanigans and tomfoolery you both brought to the Tribe episodes. almost every episode had me busting a gut at the stunts you pulled off every week...it was like watching a more family friendly version of Jackass. You have had some amazing help in the background, and I have to say Fancy Dan was fun and had great chemistry with you in episodes he made cameos......Brianna is another winner......such a character....she cracks me up...I hope she stays around forever! ....well, nothing lasts forever, and change is the only constant in life, so it is with a sense of sadness, learning that Daniel and Rex wont be pinging off each other every day.....if feels like the last episode of M*A*S*H, or the Jerry Seinfeld Show....or the Big Bang Theory.....so many laughs and tears you brought into my everyday, you are like family and will be missed. It was a good run, be proud of what you accomplished....and thanks for the memories you beautifully magnificent bastards!

I used to be one of those people who said there was only a few ways to drink and now I find my self holding tasting sessions with my collection and encouraging people to let me know if there is something specific they want because the best way to drink is the way you like to drink. The format of a knowledgeable person exploring the whiskey world with an enthusiastic amateur lost some of it's utility as Rex gained knowledge and experience.
Bri is the perfect new student, and Rex has stepped up to be teacher.
