    A casual meandering, rambling video of a warm Sunday afternoon on the range.
    I rekon if you want more power and more features go for the impact, but if your shooting mostly pellets and want something cheaper and simpler go for the crown.

    Thanks for the video! It totally reinforces my decision to buy a .22/700mm Impact. Following is my thinking, should anybody else be in the process of trying to decide... I chose .22 caliber for the better BC, lower air consumption, low noise level (no silencers allowed here in Canada) and economy (locally, .22 pellets are half the price of .25) as this will be my main rifle for target shooting and pesting (rats, starlings and pigeons) out to 50 yards and maybe 100-125 yards or so once slugs become available. Figure that there will be more than enough energy available for my applications; if my requirements change I can always buy a larger caliber barrel kit. On Impact vs Crown; as much as I prefer traditional rifles, I feel the additional power of the Impact, its (extra) tunability and compactness were the factors that tipped the balance - it's a bit of a scary purchase for me as I have never handled an Impact or even shot a bullpup. True the Impact is more complex than the Crown and will (potentially) require more service/maintenance but, being a compulsive tinkerer I don't see that as a problem - lots of information available on the internet and only basic tools are required. With a bit of research and care, anybody should be able to maintain the gun. The Impact has demonstrated that when properly tuned and shot by a skilled marksman that it is capable of shooting very small groups at long ranges ...I strongly expect that I will have my work cut out for me - looking forward to that :-) Anyway, hope this is of interest. Cheers, Hank

      @scuba Steve I have a .25 FX Royale 500, very nice rifle but I don't shoot it very often (will be selling it) - for all the reasons I listed above I much prefer my .22 HW100 FSB. Think that a .22 MKII will put out the about the same fpe as my Royale so that kinda makes the economy of the .22 even more attractive. That and I asked myself how often do I REALLY need a .25 to do something I couldn't do with the .22 if I had to. I've started looking at the heavy .22 pellets from H&N and JSB and figure that at typical racoon and porcupine pesting ranges they would be fine for that application and I didn't need the .25. Was thinking that as "Plan B" a large caliber barrel kit might be a suitable solution in case I need the extra power but have since decided that it would be more economical and more practical to go the aftermarket plenum upgrade route. Anyway, I have settled on .22/700 mm (and a slug barrel) and am waiting for my supplier to get them in stock. Good luck with your choice Steve and Merry Christmas!

    Ha, I love it..."Why won't my 75 grain boat tail go 1025 FPS?" gotta love it!! I have the MK2 Impact .30 and the Crown .25 and I will say my Impact is a joy to shoot and amazingly accurate but something about shouldering a classic rifle that I just love so for me it is both. I am in the minority when it comes to slugs...For what I hunt a 44 grain JSB pellet placed in the right spot tends to do just fine....The Crown is mostly a paper puncher and probably did not need to spend the kind of money they cost to kill targets but man I sure enjoy it!! Keep up the good work mate.

I been having problems keeping the slugs straight in the magazine on the impact they keep flipping sideways with pellets it works fine in .30 cal maybe it works better in .22... you’re right tho the crown is a nice bench gun it’s really long I prefer to use the wildcat or the impact when I walk around

  • @peewee007654321
    @peewee007654321 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Seems the impact is more ‘fine’ tuneable according to mr dubber, I asked him on one of his live TH-cam q&a. I held an impact in my local gun shop, it felt a bit strange, almost like how is this all that money? I then held the crown, It felt like heaven in my arms 😍. But,,, you’re right about the 700mm barrel on the crown, it looks ridiculous, at least the impact has the 700mm barrel all the way through it which hides most of it. I’m only worried with the impact that there’s more O-rings to go wrong in it, I’m definitely not going to go fiddling around inside one of those. Question now is, which one can shoot slugs better at 100 yards. For me I’d say the impact would win this contest.

    • @Sujaaf
      @Sujaaf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the exact same thing and also for looks i went for the Crown.
      Who would win the slugs u say al about the tune. I just bought a 600 .22 slugliner and wil make a 600 barrel out of the .25 and.22 kits i have. And will be trying slugs for sure. I love the hold of the crown beautifull and seriously accurate gun imo . I was shooting it in .25 pellets wonderfull voor the 100meter but wanted more so will tryout slug shooting if i can find the same accuracy with those sluga i have a winner 😅👍

    • @meatheadmarksman2013
      @meatheadmarksman2013  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I was gunna shoot slugs at 100m I'd go for an impact, more barrel, more power, more speed making it easier. The crown will do it but it's alot easier with a 700mm barrel

    • @Sujaaf
      @Sujaaf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meatheadmarksman2013 i get this but i dont have one. Im thinking of trading in my crown for one but yeah. Dont even own it for 2 months. And there is a 700 barrel for the crown aswell(newer crown)
      The only reason i would buy an impact is because of the valve stop and a bigger power . Fine tune with the valve stop i sometimes mis
      Shooting slugs out of a crown is possible and a 600 barrel for .22 is enough to get me arround 910 fps with a 23gr slug. I just dont like the look and feel of the impact sitting behind it at a bench the crown feels normal like a rifle.
      But yeah even a 600 barrel feels oke but with silencer and or extended shroud yeah is like a fishing rod. Can u imagine the 700 barrel on the continiuum (i have this breech blok) like a long thing.
      Only reason im gonna try it the slugs at 100m is because we can compete against pellets at 100m with slugs in the same class . Only thing u see is .30 pellets or even bigger . But yeah who knows the mk2 impact is out here aswell and the more technical side of it and more fine tune stuff i really like. Mayby i will go for it

    As to the turret unlocking in use when using dial ranges. I have the same scope type, and it annoyed the hell out of me losing all zero points in one go. Here's the fix, get an 'o' ring slightly smaller than the turret diameter, but with a bit of girth to it. Stretch and it will drop into the gap that exists between the lock ring and turret proper. Without the gap the lock ring cannot unwind, job done!

    Great video mate, awesome to see some Aussie airgun content. I'm contemplating a Impact M3 or a Crown for pest control shooting. Have heard the crown is easier to dial down in power to run lighter slugs and not damage infrastructure. AKA run 13g @ 500fps and easily dial the power to a 18gr @ 900fps to shoot further. Do you have an opinion on that having owned both. The new M3 Impact with the marked adjustments looks mighty fine to tune.

    • @meatheadmarksman2013
      @meatheadmarksman2013  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're both very easy to adjust mate, the impact is actually better in that respect because you can wind the valve right in. Theoretically you could run a 357 and a .177 on the same tune with an impact but not a crown. Both great guns, both will do what you want but if you can stomach the price tag and you like the looks the impact is a more versatile platform

    • @EDGEoftheOUTBACK
      @EDGEoftheOUTBACK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@meatheadmarksman2013 yeah the cost isn't a factor and I love the compact nature of the impact. Just hard to get good information on the adjustment. Everyone is max power focused but as you know that's not always why an air rifle is best.

    I agree with you buddy. These guys are expecting to shoot heavy slugs at speeds over a 1000 feet per second isn't what these PCPs were meant to do. Im happy with shooting 25 cal. Pellets at 860 feet per second, im able to kill pest out to 80 yards all day long with it being silent. If these guys want power like that with slugs they should just go to shooting 22 rim fire guns.

  • @ken244

    I own 2 wildcats, an impact and a boss. They are all equally accurate. The best bang for your buck in my opinion is the wildcat MK3 sniper. After market power plenum's are available. Barrels are interchangeable and they can shoot slugs very well. BTW my sniper is .25cal with 2inch pp and shoots the 34gr JSBs @1000fps and is capable of sub moa groups at 100yards. That was some impressive shooting in the seated position with your impact.

  • @llr3zall151
    @llr3zall151 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would an Fx Crown with a 500mm superior be able to shoot .22 hybrids or knockouts under an inch or an inch and a half at 100 yards? Or do you need to have a 700mm barrel? If not, might aswell get a nice anschutz rimfire! Or maybe a volquartsen?!
    Air guns just seem like too much of a hassel! But i have to say the crown in yellow jacket has really stolen my heart!!! These air rifles are becoming really advanced and are well made, especially the triggers and the smooth action, very impressive and tempting!

I have had the Streamline for several years with a cheaper FX scope on it and it's always dead nuts and never have to adjust it. There must be something I am doing wrong on the Impact. I was expecting as good or better results from the Impact.

The old saying you get what you pay for doesn't seem to apply. After I added a good Helix scope and bi pod and taxes I think I have around $4500.00 invested in this gun and it's not accurate at all. Hi Uncle Hodge, happy new year 🥳. Question for you and advice. I know you have already sold your Crown but I would like some guidance on power, reg pressure and hammer tension. Currently in 25 cal it’s putting out 880 ft per sec, 46 ft/lbs with 26.4g JSB, Reg 130 bar and I am getting around 80 shots per full fill.
    I want to try the heavy JSB mk2 heavy 33. something! I have watched you tuning videos so know how to do it but what numbers should I be looking for a start off. I know all guns are different even the Crowns vary so it’s not an exact science. I think your channel is great you are very entertaining and knowledgeable. Don’t worry I will not blame you if things don’t go right. Thanks. 👍🇬🇧

    • @meatheadmarksman2013
      @meatheadmarksman2013  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The heavy pellets like speed, 930fps+ so lots of reg and lots of hammer! 140bar minimum. Usually with the crown your looking at 150 to get good speed on the 34gr. Start at max like in the video and work back. They get a little wobbly if you dont run them fast enough

      I've never used the lg110, my experience with steyr is limited to the f88, hence my love of bullpups lol I think the lg110 is probably not as versatile as the impact, seems like a much more specialized piece for short range target work, that's just my passing speculation but, I could be very very wrong lol

      Ok, thanks mate. That’s what I sort of figured. My interest in pullpups seems to have the same origins as yours. I only asked because my local smallbore & air rifle club has a 10m indoor range as well, which I’d like to have a crack at. It looks like the Impact should go well enough at both this and long range stuff as well. Plus I like the versatility of the impact.
