    Sonoff ZigBee Bridge U has got me puzzled. I expected ITEAD to come up with a matter-compatible bridge soon, but I was completely shocked by what I saw inside

    Since you are the Sonoff Master (IMO), I wanted to share with you. I love their RF version of everything. I have them everywhere. I have the 8 button remote everywhere, cause I don't want to talk to Alexa. I am a simple boy, Home Assistant and Tasmoto are over my head. So, I am left with whatever works, works. But, a few years ago, I followed the YT video on how to turn a Basic into a garage door opener trigger. And I wanted an RF version, just for the fun of it. No one was interested in doing that, so by trial and error, and going thru 3-4 RFR2,s I hacked one and cuts some solder lines, and moved a wire, re-soldering it, and it works. I am terrible at video, and won't bother. I took a couple of pic and wrote it up. If you give me an email address, I will forward all to you.

      You can share it via email on my page (don't want TH-cam comment email scraping 🤣)
      Have you considered zigbee? It does very similar thing in terms of being detached from the internet for controls but it's more modern and offers better data transfer and better devices

      @@notenoughtech (found your email. Will send you the RF stuff). Yes, have considered ZB. I like the separate convenience that the RF and RF 8 button remote provide. more than 15 TX series light switches installed. More than 25 RF Basics installed. More than one way to do stuff.

    Thanks for the informative video. Do I understand that with this hub I am able to replace the Conbe 2 dongle attached to Z2M and place it anywhere in my home? In other words, will it relay Zigbee "over" WiFi to act as a wireless Zigbee adapter? I don't have too much time tweaking with smart home, hence I prefer future proofing the hardware, and this seems strong enough to be around for a while.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not quite yet.
      This isn't a custom coordinator. Custom coordinators like conbee give you more freedom and until Matter develops better, they will expose connected sensors and devices much better. With that said, you can use this to link via matter to HA and use it as a sole ZigBee hub. As long as you are ok with certain sensors not being exposed as they should (like outlined humidity in Alexa)

  • @obijuan-
    @obijuan- หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well, thank you sir too. I have a couple of the wireless buttons and the presence sensor that keep dropping offline in my garage. I played around with location of my #1 ZB Bridge-P and I believe its a "distance thing". So, I order another ZB Bridge-P for the garage. And of course, they announce a new one. S***. So, just bought it TOO.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      ZigBee is a Mesh. I suggest complimenting your network with some routers instead of the Bridges. If you add a ZigBee lightbulb, smart socket or relay (most ZB devices that are powered by mains act as routers) they will act as extenders while bridges will create multiple networks. It will work better this way as mesh will self heal too

  • @EsotericArctos
    @EsotericArctos หลายเดือนก่อน

    Amazon Alexa doesn't support Humidity yet as far as I know. I have a lot of sesnors in Home Assistant that show on Google as Temp and Humidity, but on Alexa devices it only shows temperature, no humidity.
    This looks like quite a competent Matter Bridge, which is how it seems to behave. Look forward to seeing what future firmware can bring, but obviously you buy a device based on how it works as of now as future features may never come to be.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      My take is that this device will change into a full blown matter hub. You'll be able to add thread and WiFi devices to it. And share this with Alexa/Google without them acting like the main matter device

      I think this has potential. I strongly doubt that it will stay as a simply bridge for long. It's highly overspeced for that. So in time it may turn into much more reasonable purchase

    Interesting idea. I will seriously consider that. What in the Sonoff products do you recommend to serve as a relay? (I have other Zigbee hubs, and don't depend on those manufacturers to connect Sonoff devices.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sonoff ZB Basic, Sonoff ZB Micro and their ZB Socket - but that's region dependent. You can also get USB dongless from them and flash router firmware, The devices don't have to be from Sonoff either as long as they comply with ZigBee 3.0

    • @obijuan-
      @obijuan- หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@notenoughtech Do I understand you correctly? The new ZB Micro you are referring to is the USB adapter in the ZB version? That is a repeater, that I can use to relay the signal from those that have been dropping offline - due to distance? (thanks)
      I am avoiding flashing anything. I'm old, someone is going to inherit my home and I don't want it more complicated than a family member can manage. Thanks for this info. Going to use it.

    • @obijuan-

      Mat, since I last posted I took your advice and tried something else. I order the Ultra and installed it today. And re-added most of the device that were on my Pro, to my Ultra. And I ordered some ZBMini and installed it half way between my Ultra and my garage which has been a problem area where Sonoff ZB device keep going offline. I also added a S40 ZB plug and a ZBMini in the garage, but nothing plugged in, just to give me that repeater effect. I moved the Pro to the garage, and left a couple of garage devices on the Pro to see it they will stay up. But I know have repeaters in enough places to re-installed subdevices to the Ultra. I I replaced a couple of S31's with S40 ZB, but also noticed the S40 ZB and ZBMini doesn't have a Power On State feature. That's disappointing. Maybe they will add it in a future firmware. Too soon to tell which will work best, but I am working to give myself options. Thanks for your advice.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @obijuan- one thing I should add. No neutral switches don't act as routers. When using devices as repeaters you should put them in good range of each other rather than at max distance.
      Have you checked what the end devices report as signal strength if you have this available in the app?

    • @obijuan-
      @obijuan- หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@notenoughtech Yes, thanks for that reminder. I have been careful in what I selected to use as routers. Followed what Sonoff says serves. And spaced devices accordingly to insure relaying. I am sure my effort sounds like overkill, total distance is about 50 feet, but to me - worth the effort to stop the devices from dropping offline. Even after rotating a different subdevice to serve, where one dropped offline, was still having offline-dropping-issue. But seems better. Appreciate your advice.

    who else is having problems with the zbridge pro? (stock firmware) mine works for a few month then starts rebooting every few hours and going offline all the time. Sounds Exciting. How is it's zigbee coordinator with other brands? IKEA, Sengled, Hue, Third Reality and such? I have Third reality's Matter bridge and it works with almost anything. Had problems just with Ikea's older remotes and buttons. Having Ethernet is a huge plus for this sonoff bridge. Other zigbee bridges had problems with Temp and humidity sensors until software fixes, so I dont think its a Matter thing but just a coding failure.

    • @notenoughtech
      @notenoughtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sonoff has a thing in which if the device type doesn't exist in ewelink ecosystem already it's usually not enabled/supported. So it's not the best for that. You want a ZigBee hub from Tuya. These are best for cross compatibility
