The gray blue uniform wasn't abandoned just after WWII tho. It was actually used till 1947, right before the KMT fled the mainlands and went to Taiwan. Even with the disastrous "Taipingyang" disaster that saw the steamer sank as they were carrying refugees from Shanghai to Taiwan, the guards guarding the docks and controlling the flow of people and goods onto the ship were reported to be wearing the exact blue-gray uniforms and some of the soldiers that went on the ship prior to its sinking to station in Taiwan were also said to be wearing the blue-grey uniform so it did not change much and was still used post-war.
The NRA units wore whatever uniforms they could afford. Some poorer units (especially warlord troops) could not afford newer style uniforms and so kept older uniforms. The units that retreated into Burma during the Civil War were essentially all wearing the blue gray uniforms. The video is moreso presenting "official adoption dates" for uniform items.
Because it is. When Chiang stepped on the Communist toes and went against them, the Soviets pulled out in arming China and thus with no one else do it and with China having a huge purchasing powers for German military equipment since the 1890s, Hitler thought that it was a good idea to do business with the Chinese by selling them equipment and arms so that they can on one hand go and kill those Communist which were a common enemy of the Nazi party and not only that, bolster his own nation's producing power whilst increasing revenue for the once bankrupt state from the Treat of Versailles. Thus in 1935, Chiang sent military officers and some divisions across towards Germany for training and they in turn came back with German equipments and battlefield knowledge thus this is why you'll see German-style helmet being used on US-style uniform even when the Chinese Civil War kicked off again right post-war.
Judging from the original though of Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang, they really wanted to build ROC into a Nazi Germany that would not be anti-human or aggressive. The "party-state" system before the 1946 constitution was largely modeled after the Nazi Party and the German Reich.

I thought the Chinese military uniform from the Kuo Ming Tang is the same as the Communist Party of China which is one uniform for all purposes. I just learned it today that there's actually a formal uniform, and field service uniform.
But in fact, it may indeed be the same, and sometimes the armband does not even need to be changed. Because the official designation of the Chinese Communist Army in the NRA at that time was the 18th Group Army of the National Revolutionary Army. In fact, this was also the origin of the name of the Eighth Route Army. Although it later changed from "8" to "18", the customary name remained unchanged.
@@zhu_zi4533 I think you misunderstood what I meant. I'm pretty sure for the CCP side, they wear the same uniform for combat and as formal occasions. But in the video, the KMT army has a seperate set of combat uniform and a set of formal uniform.
@@taotao98103 A lot of NRA units were like that and it had more to do with availability than "formal adoption". Formal uniforms were mainly worn by officers, it really came down to if the officer was paid enough or they cared enough to purchase them. This was during a time when many units were still funded locally by the Provincial Governors (aka Warlords) and some poorer units may not have the funds to pay for formal uniforms. The 8th Route Army and New 4th Army were not formally incorporated into the NRA until 1937, hence the late adoption of NRA uniforms, but this would be analogous to when Beiyang troops were formally incorporated into the NRA in 1928.

The core of what was known as the Chinese Army was the National Revolutionary Army (NRA) of the Kuomintang (KMT). This consisted of divisions raised in south and coastal China from the mid 1920s. It was the best trained of the several parts of the Chinese Army and best led receiving the graduates of the Whampoa Academy as junior officers. In 1937, a German training mission brought the 87th and 88th Divisions up to a high standard using German and Czech equipment, much of it produced in China. These two divisions were sacrificed in the Battles around Shanghai. Later US advisors and equipment became available, especially for the Chinese troops isolated in India, who fought alongside the British in northern Burma. Then there were the Warlord armies too strong to defeat who were co-opted by the KMT. They often had a mix of weapons and ran the gamut of trained and reasonably well led to being little more than bandits. Weapons came from everywhere, one Warlord in north-west China being totally equipped with Italian small arms and artillery. The Manchurian Warlord Army and some of the northern Chinese were even armed by the Japanese. The PLA was the smallest of the conventionally trained armies and after the failure of the "Hundred Regiments" offensive fell back on guerilla war and truces with local Japanese commanders so they could concentrate on political actions in the territory occupied by the CCP. As far as guerillas, there were twice as many non-Communists as Communists. Both the KMT and CCP were provided arms by the Soviets, the KMT from 1939-41 and the CCP from 1929 to 1949. It is amazing how the Chinese kept manufacturing rifles, machine guns, grenades and mortars. One of the largest Lend Lease items was nitro powder for ammunition.
