Deniz is a 21 month old baby from Turkey, who has a genetic disorder called SMA type 1. This disease effects all muscles, accordingly these babies have difficulties about breathing , sitting , chewing etc. It is a progressive disease and it can be curable by a gene therapy medicine called ZOLGENSMA, in Boston. It is an FDA and EMA approved drug. These babies should get their medicine before the age of 2. And the cure costs 2.4 million dollar. That is why we are trying to gather that money by volunteered donations. This was not applicable in Turkey till 22 December 2020. But as a result of a law case, this drug has listed as a foreign drug by the Rebublic of Turkey Ministery of Health. Still this was not enough for babies like Deniz, because of the time-bound. Nevertheless, 8 days after this medication has listed, Turkish government banned all donation activities in one day. And The minister of health has declared that this gene therapy drug is not reliable, and not enough for those babies to be cured, even though ZOLGENSMA was approved by FDA and EMA. This is clearly the exact opposite situation of previous decision. 17 family has gathered the required amount of money before this prohibition and babies got their cure in Boston. This is clearly a human rights violation, but we do not have any time to wait for the legal process. This is why we would like to support Deniz from abroad to get her cure in 30 days. Please support Deniz to get her medicine as soon as possible. You can find gofund me and PayPal accounts in this taplink : taplink.cc/deniz_sma_

@@sci-tech3916 Essays also matter a lot. Make sure it's something that shows off your personality and what you care about. College admissions is a bit of a sales job, so you might have to "pitch" yourself, if that makes sense. Covering a day-to-day thing about your life could help and if you want to get metaphorical with it go for it. Being authentic will be very important but so will showing that you have the ability to write. If you don't write a lot now then I'd suggest reading since you can pick up on elements of style, rhythm, tone, word choice, etc. based on the stuff you read which can be a huge help. If you want a really solid essay start writing it at least a month before the due date, but have a few ideas in mind leading up to that month of writing. Also, don't forget there are supplemental essays on top of your main one which will be based on school fit so do your research.

Growing up, I believed in the notion that if you don’t go to an elite school, then you aren’t achieving or going to achieve academic success. For the last few years I have been shifting mindsets continuously and trying to figure what was best for me. I think society has laid out these constrictive options for us on what school to go to and how that reflects your “intelligence” or “academic success”. Educational elitism has been an ongoing issue since way back when Harvard and Oxford were founded. People who had the privilege of going to these schools were essentially higher than others and with that a social hierarchy becomes established. I am a senior now and I am glad I didn’t apply to the so called elite schools I wanted to always go to. By no means does my experience and thoughts equate to anyone who goes to those schools but that’s my thoughts. As for you Max, I think your level of creativity and intelligence can not be defined by any rejection from colleges. I am confident you’ll get it in!(^ν^)

Everything's impossible until it's done - I was consistently one of the worst academic students in my school for 5 years straight, I was told by my family and teachers that I needed to get good grades and get a good normal job (like being a lawyer).
I was never lazy, throughout school I set up multiple businesses - I just couldn't study things I didn't enjoy - I was also diagnosed with ADD so I found studying things I didn't enjoy particularly unenjoyable! I vividly remember being mocked and laughed at by my teachers when I said that I wanted to be a TH-camr and that I wanted to run my own business - everybody said "its impossible" " you have to be really talented to do that" "you're too disorganised" "youre not clever enough" "you don't know how to make videos" "you're not a creative person" "the chances of succeeding are so so low" etc...
As soon as I left school I cut out all toxic people from my life, learnt how to edit using free TH-cam tutorials, surrounded myself with better people, and allowed my creativity to grow.
Now, one year on since leaving school I've done work for some of the biggest companies and creators on the planet (like Casey Neistat), secured myself financially for the next year and I've started to grow my TH-cam channel - I'm definitely not there yet but I'm trying - I'm chasing my dreams and I feel great about it.
My teachers and family said I couldn't do it, well guess what - I did it (kinda). Everything I've achieved this last year has been things which i had previously told where not possible, So do what you can't!
Limitations are bullshit, they're just perceptions we (and others who influence us) put on ourselves.
Loved this video bru & loved the quote paraphrase at the end 💖 (P.s. I would be very surprised if you don't get in!)

The fact that you’re touching (really getting to the core actually) on this at such a young age is brilliant. This is such an important message for kids and people who are trying to figure out things in life. I just watched that new Pixar movie, Soul. If you haven’t watched, it covers similar themes you’re talking about here.
Life is meant to enjoy it and pursue dreams while enjoying what it takes to actually get there. I think a lot of people “go with the flow” and realize their life is being lived, but it feels like it’s by someone else. Like you said, regret is scary. And that’s the biggest risk anyone can take. Playing it safe now, leads to regret later, unless you’re really sure that’s what you want to do.
For me personally, I’m in college right now and have for the most part done what others have told me. Parents, societal pressure, etc. but as of late, I realized how important enjoying every moment of your life is. You put it beautifully when you said you can’t go wrong when you go where your heart desires. I’m still in college, but changed majors and am generally optimistic about what I’m doing. I’m also exploring new passions and avenues I never would before. Chasing my dreams but enjoying the road if you will. You have the right attitude towards life dude. Great video!

  • @Rachel.Karalnik

This has been by far my favorite video of yours that you've put out.
My first 2 years in high school I was aiming to be the perfect top of the class straight A student and I did that. I took the hardest classes I could and as many as possible (9 classes each semester) attaining a 4.0 each semester. I joined student government, SING, etc. Eventually all these responsibilities I had placed on myself reached a breaking point. I found myself lost, literally depressed, anxious to step into the school building.
At the time I was lucky to find a group of content creators who were so kind to let me be a part of the stories they were documenting. As soon as I started to recover, I cut back on school and continued to involve myself in that community and started building my own TH-cam channel. I self taught myself how to edit, film, organize events, etc. I'm not where I want to be yet in terms of film & my TH-cam channel, but I damn well know that I am very happy and have achieved so much of what I didn't think was possible then. I'm taking risks and doing what I love and that's all that matters to me.
I stopped conforming to "societies expectations" and "social pressures". I now wake up everyday excited about life. It has absolutely paid off, and despite becoming an average student, I still applied to my dream school. I didn't get in, but that won't stop me. I'm currently at a cc, actually ENJOYING my education now and planning on applying again to hopefully transfer to my dream uni by next year. If I don't then no sweat, it's just not meant to be and I'll continue taking risks.
It all taught me that if you set your mind to something you truly love, you'll achieve it. In this case it has been how far I've gotten in TH-cam & film, meeting people, etc (which isn't even that far yet!) There is no doubt in my mind after the amount of risks I've taken- they've all paid off. (Btw If you don't get in, their loss, not yours haha, you'll do great wherever you go)

I''m doing the latter! (if readers don't get my statement, please watch the whole video).
I used to aim really high for elite American universities but what decided it in the end was the tuition fee! That made me drop my SATs + hopes and dreams. That was where I learned how to pivot.
I'm now in my senior year in a German public university - you could be a door and still get accepted there. The point that I can take from my decision is that I can at least get a degree without paying that much money, plus it's a much more 'chill' entry, which I was sure I was 100% capable to do. I will not finish university with a big 'what if'. Going to Germany right after finishing high school at 18 was a huge leap, and I am grateful for the opportunity. It has by far been my life's greatest adventure and discovery.
Studying in Germany has a stigma in my country as a poor man's study destination. The rich usually goes to Australia, the US, or the UK. I did not conform to social pressure because I'm an individual and I know what's best for me. I have a big respect for Germany for making education affordable and putting international students at the same tier as local students instead of exploiting them. Kudos.
A message from me for viewers out there who might still be at school and looking for a place - shoot your shot. Look for something you're really interested in, let go of pride and DO NOT ONCE conform to social pressure - just sayin'. But I'm not an expert or a life guru, so take everything that I say with a grain of salt.
All the best in your endeavour.
    See you in Perspectopia.

I learned this from one of your comments on another video but I think it’s applicable to this topic as well. I truly believe that everyone has a unique perspective on life and based on their values, goals, experiences, and morals so they intrinsically want different outcomes. Some people say they want to achieve greatness and become a doctor/lawyer/engineer but intrinsically they want to conform to societies view for them. Others intrinsically want to pursue a creative path but situation circumstances prevent them from pursuing their dreams and push them into what society tells them they should be. I think that everyone has a different goal of what their “success” will look like and I believe that as people are exposed to different views, that version of “success” will change. To end on an optimistic note, my view is to use the situation privilege that I have and the gifts that I have been given to help others by providing value. I love how raw your videos are and thank you for sharing your thought provoking ideas :)

Hey man! You're probably the most well spoken high schooler I've heard ngl. I think another assumption made by people today is that being the best academic will make you a better person and more open minded. Your words make me realize that there are exceptions. I'm not going to lie, most people, from my understanding of class rank and interest level and in your situation play the exact game you describe. Many parents, my own included, didn't get to achieve academic success, so they made sure to emphasize my effort in academia and school. I admit, many times I assume only a small percentage, mostly at the top of the academic totem pole, see the grander picture. Thanks for proving me wrong. :)

It's really nice to have seen this video freshman year... I've been given the idea that I have to be at the top of my class all the time to succeed in life, so I've always taken the hardest classes and worked my ass off to keep an A in each class. I feel like I have really lost track about what I am legitimately passionate about and what I should be steering my life towards. Luckily, I'm only in ninth grade, so I have about another three years to figure myself out. But yeah, it's nice to hear that grades do not really create you as an individual nor secure a stable future.

Excellent video. I went to an elite college (UPenn) and while I had good grades and was in the top 5% of my class at the time, I hated math and dropped it in the middle of junior year. Why should students be forced to take courses that confuse them? But I did have a passion and I was nationally recognized for it, and that probably got me in. A college is looking for unusual students to make their CAMPUS well rounded. They are not looking for "well rounded" students. While I personally would prefer to see you at Princeton (and I hope you applied there) you have an excellent chance to get into many elite schools BECAUSE of what you have done with TH-cam, which is FAR MORE significant than some C in math. It shows you have a real interest and are consistent in it. I think you might be giving the average teen too much credit - following a "passion" requires a passion in the first place, and far too many teens are not really interested in anything deeply enough. You would have a far lower chance of getting into Stanford, etc. if you had the top grades, top AP classes, #2 class rank, etc and no youtube. Why? Because you would then be just like every other applicant. Good luck!
