I have noticed the same thing. Kids do very little PE in school these days. Maybe one day a week. And they don’t play sports on their own like we used to. And they don’t do lots of different sports. One or two. So, they are uncoordinated and unathletic. They don’t catch on to things easily. They have to be taught. I am generalizing. There is about 10% whose parents taught them sports and/or are involved in different sports. But you are essentially teaching them basic movements like how to run, how to jump, how to throw and catch a ball. How not to be a dork.

This is 100% spot on! We see this so often, and have to teach kids just basic movement patterns, such as skipping. There is a huge lack in multi-sport athletes, as many are now specializing so early so they don't miss out on any opportunities. It is unfortunate though because with this early specialization comes a massive decrease in overall athleticism. You are so right when you say they don't catch onto things easily. It is a completely different generation of athletes.

Do you do anything similar for older athletes (65plus)?

We usually follow similar progressions, but with athletes who aren't as young, we can progress usually quicker because a lot of youth athletes we just have to teach basic body control and movement patterns. So it's similar but usually with more advanced progressions!
