My first guitar was a used Fender Starcaster for $170. It's beat up, it's far from perfect, it's mine. Nothing will separate me from it. And actually, it still sounds decent.

I'm a massive Strat fan myself. I'm always loved the feel and comfort of a Strat, and the tonal versatility is something to behold. I own two strats, a Squier and a Fender Player HSS Strat, and both of them are an absolute joy to play. My Squier Strat is more of a jamming instrument than anything else, I'll usually play it when practicing or warming up. My Fender Strat is a workhorse for a fact. I'm a metalhead first and foremost, and my Fender handles that easily, while also letting me switch to a softer, bluesier sound just witha pickup switch and roll of the volume knob. Really the only thing missing from making it perfect for me is a non-locking floating bridge of some kind, and then it's my dream guitar. Love my Strats, both of them, and literally every other guitar I own with only 2 exceptions have the Strat Shape.

I think, as a long time LP player, that it's partly what you first pick up and get used to. I prefer the short scale, just don't bond with the sound or feel of Strats, although I do enjoy nice Tele's. As much as I am not a Strat fan, a LOT of Rock has been played on them. But to me, they are thin where the LP is full and chunky, and that's what I like! Since a lot of tone is in the fingers, I also think that the way folks play and sound dictates which type of guitar they gravitate to, and either the type of music they play and write points them to a specific type of guitar, or the type of guitar they play dictates/influences the style of music they play and write - or both!

@@telecaster-freechannel9405 I mean I‘m a strat guy, I couldn‘t give the tele the playability, so I said most versatile. Strat all the way tho.
Sometimes I feel a little limited on a strat, don’t me wrong, I only play strats as my main guitar, but I just can’t get in humbucker theritory. Tele bridge pickups tend to be quite hot and fat (at least the ones I played), so you have more fatter options.

There are guitarists who sound great with a Les Paul, others with a Tele and others with a Strat. ONLY Gary Moore could make all three sound the best at any point.

Its just improv using whats known as Pentatonic weaving, take your pentatonic box and add some notes like the b5 as a passing note, or the b6 and the 2 to add some spice to some sections or, just like the b5 or any other chromatic note, as a passing note

I love the Strat, but with the HSS configuration, so in this way you can enjoy the best of both worlds in my opinion c:

I think the Tele is the most versatile guitar there is. As we saw, ironically, you can actually shred on a Tele. Plus, since both the Stairway and Hotel California solos were recorded on a Tele, it's clearly capable of being a lead guitar. Also, despite not having Humbuckers, you can still get some better than decent high gain chord tones. But there are some pretty unique sounds that you can really only get from a Tele. Everyone is trying to get some of those Strat and Tele specific tones using split coil and push pull pots, but it's just not the same. No man or woman should be forced to own only one guitar. But if that were a person's curse, they'd probably have to go with the Telecaster.

I think using a Les Paul for Rock 'n Roll is definitely correct, but I'd say tele's are best for indie rock, particularly as rhythm guitar, and the strat as lead guitar or an ES-335.
Also, for this, I kinda think the ES-335 should be included.

I have all 3. For me the Tele is my favorite, but my reasons are more about ergonomics than sound. A Tele neck just feels perfect in my hand. I also prefer the simplicity of one volume and one tone knob. I love the sound of a Les Paul but it does not hang off my body in a balanced way. It tends to butt dive. It also hangs to far to my right so I have to twist my body more to get to the higher frets. The Strat's volume knob and pickup selector switch are too close to the bottom strings. I tend to bump them inadvertently when I strum aggressively.

My first electric was a Squier Telecaster, it was fantastic and I had no issues with it but I gave it to a good friend after I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Standard which is still my main.
I use it for literally everything that I wouldn't do on an acoustic and I have no interest in getting another guitar unless it's a Gibson Les Paul.

They're all great, but the Teli is the love of my life. The L.P. is crunchy, the Strat is smooth, the Telecaster is somehow both & something more.

I couldn't decide if I liked my Strat or my Les Paul (both off brand) more. Then half the humbucker died in the bridge position on the Les Paul, and my tech wired it up as a single coil, now I have humbucker and single coil on my LP and it sounds awesome. It's also over 40 years old and I want to keep as much of the original hardware in there as I can.

Yeah but the tele does rock, blues, country, funk, and happens to be good for worship music too. Makes great sounds both clean and distorted. Stays in tune. Nice understated looks. String tension and scale length allows easier switching between acoustic and electrics as well, as an added bonus.
