There seems to be a disconnect between what a good answer for this question is. I could go your way, putting emphasis on "the journey," or I could go another, putting emphasis on explaining more specifically what makes me qualified for the position. There will be some overlap, but ultimately they are different approaches.

That was so damn inspiring. I've seen a whole lot of these videos that have helped me answer this question before but this video right here gave me real nostalgia of where it really started for me. fuckin A!

I can talk about what happens in india. Here the lucrative jobs are only with engineers or doctors. One has to compete for admission into the engineering college. So people tend to puruse whatever one is offered. It's the name of the institution which is more important and students think they can adopt whatever they are being offered . Very few understand if they posses the skillset for the stream they have chosen. So under these circumstances what do you suggest 1) one should upfront about the reason or 2) Cook up a story

I’m not a mechanical engineer even close to it, but the idea is just brilliant 🤩

To be honest, some interviewer ask this question because they don’t know how or what to ask, and soon as you tell your story, you’ll be cut in the middle saying “Im not asking about how you become a mechanical engineer, tell me about yourself..”

Thanks for the informative video. I have a concern about answering this question. I can't relate to the eat sleep engineer mentality. Even as a student I generally liked what I was doing, but I wasn't overjoyed. In fact all the work, tests and assignments killed much of the joy I had. I'm only recovering a passion for mechanical engineering now that I've graduated. And I definitely wasn't a straight A student. I like to think of myself as more than a one-dimensional engineer. I have outsides interests such as sports and volunteering and community aspects. In fact the one internship job I had, I was asked to elaborate on my interest in sports by the Ops Manager and COO of the company. Based on my main colleague's sporting interest, I believe having this multi-dimensional aspect was instrumental in me getting the job. The rest of the interview is used to explain experiences at other jobs and personal projects an interviewee has conducted. They've used the rest of the interview to highlight their value in engineering. One of the biggest parts of a company is the culture between people. So the one question of the interview "tell me about yourself" I would view as an opportunity to highlight my personality and my multi-dimensional interests. I can't imagine in many companies the interviewer listening to an engineer talk more about the discipline they already talked about the rest of the interview while offering no outside interests being looked upon higher up than a candidate who meets the qualifications and has a dedicated work ethic but has multiple dimensions and interests to their personality. But maybe that's just how the company cultures exist where I'm from. Thoughts?

Why did you pick your major?
I am Mechanial Engineer. I talked about my childhood I liked monster trucks, hot-wheels, Cars, Cat mining truck, Thomas train, and transportation vehicles etc then I figured out I was interesting in dynamics, so I was going for ME degree. I got official offer two days right after my person interview 🙂

Because electrical engineering was wait listing everyone below 3.4.
That is a good interview answer, but I only knew a few people like that. Most didn't know until college that they were going into mechanical engineering.

Dani Fahisis...I know what you mean. I struggle with it too. I find it's about saying the right thing for the given job description or career.

    • @wildcat4478
      @wildcat4478 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Dani Fahisis interviewers could ask this question tell me about yourself in different ways like
Why did you choose your major? Or why are you going for ME degree?
      Tell me about your studying?
Tell me about your education background?
Could you describe your technical projects that related to your major you had done so far? (Ans: quick talking about your childhood then use STAR method for your tech bical project)
Tell me about your passion about the job you applied for? (Mechanical engineering jobs)
Why did you applied for this position with our company?
Why did you want to become Mechanical Engineer?
Tell me how much you like about this ME position?
      Etc
There are many ways they are able to ask about the question “Tell me or introduce about yourself” because it depends on the behavior of interviewers. Different people have different ways to communicate. I recommend watch Don’s videos. I found all my answers through his videos. They are helpful. You should be flexible when answering interview questions and don’t be too honest when you answer the questions 😉. Hope it helps my friends

Keep it as short and concise as possible whilst being able to convey the facts you want to convey about your journey.
Don't omit the future of the path you desire.
      I'm 57 and could write a book about my journey !! ...
      ....
How good of a story teller you are, able to paint a picture with words ?
Communication skills are important for them to judge.
