The only time a group interview happened to me, I walked into the conference room to see 6 people, besides the hiring manager. I was very nervous, so I introduced myself and then said....the reason I called this meeting...laughter ensued and I was hired for the position. Was there over 6 years until the headquarters was moved and I chose not to move.

I was in a group interview once, and yes, it was very unnerving. Yes, i did get the job, but it was not because i was skilled at it. They just needed to hire some one for it. As far as the group interview went, after i took a deep breath and began to answer the questions they posed (they were not brutal, this was just a government job) it was not hard. I was able to be honest (with nuance), and i encourage any one in an interview to be as honest as you can, don't lie, but choose for yourself how you present your background. You may be living in a moment where you think all of your past is a suck failure. This is not true. Re-examine it. Piece it together into the good things you have to offer :)

Im 42 and re-entering the workforce after a 12 year break from being a stay at home mom.
I was great at in person interviews because i had a great hand shake, eye contact and a very upbeat, can-do attitude.
Now im about to have my first online interview to work from home. I feel confident but i hope that my personality comes through the online connection and hope that my face doesnt freeze in an embarrassing position.

Thanks Don nice youtube🥳. From a design/film perspective, when making a zoom call, don't have a blurred background that the computer has to calculate. It takes visual attention away from you when the edge around you is constantly flipping. Don't choose a monochromatic background - it can make it seem claustrophobic, instead, like Don here, choose a background you've come up with yourself (Don just gets a TH-cam plate in and blackboard with a slogan - in this way he sneaks in a bit of history about himself without being obtrusive) But it can also be something that creates a little depth in your background. But naturally avoid laundry or a messy table.

I am an Administrative Assistant at a hospice house. After losing my sister to hospice, it is emotionally challenging. Since I began working there I have become dependent on a rollator walker. I went for an interview at another hospital. When the hiring manager walked in for the second half of the interview, she looked at my walker and said, "do you really need to use that thing?" I felt so humiliated and offended. After I went home I sent an email withdrawing my application. I have been afraid of going on interviews ever since. Is "oh good grief" going to be my first impression on people? It can be an awkward thing to have around. It does not fold up flat like a regular walker. My coworkers are used to it and move it around as needed if it gets in their way, but still keep it in my reach.

Doesn't matter how do you present yourself and what knowledge you have, etc. What matters is what is written in a certain database about you. A database which every and each employer consults to take a decision. Without it, they are completely in the woods. They cannot decide at all. They too dumb for that. It happen to me 3 times to get refused only after they went in the other room to look on that database about me. Do you think it recruiters know anything about IT ? It never happened to me.

Why does EVERY fu(king job seem to require salesmanship skills? 🤦‍♂️
I don't have them and I don't want them. I truly HATE talking to people, but I often make efforts to try and get along with them. But if that's what the job is, I'd rather just be honest about rather than trying to live a LIE. I'd rather be unemployed than TALKING to people all day, or pretending I care about their bullshit job.

not salesmanship, but influence. to get hired anywhere, you need to influence them. don't lie, because that would be deceitful, and when you're trying to build rapport to influence someone, you'll destroy that with lies.

Disagree on the no-selling during phone interview. If you don't sell at a phone interview, they will go with someone who did.

You said that you say, "hello, uh, I'm Don Georgevich". Don't make the verbal noises like, uh, ahm, well, so, you know, errr, and so on.

There are too many assumptions here. Firstly, that everyone drives to an interview. Try arriving by public transport..especially if rainy or snowy.. Secondly, that everyone can afford expensive technology. Thirdly, that you are going for a high-powered job...

yes, i have to make assumptions when I create videos and I try to be as broad as i can, but as with all my videos, they will not work for everyone all the time

your videos are very educational & info rich however
moving & swinging your arms and hands with every little word that comes out of your mouth it just doesn't look natural
you are over doing this to the point it is distracting from the value of your videos
visually tired following the direction of your arms & hand..
