Hi Mark. Yeah, I've learned that when you see a little clump like that to check it for a queen. I've found virgin queens like that out in front of the hives in the summer. They get kicked out of the hive and I've started new colonies with them. Thanks for watching.
That was a close call on that queen , glad to see that hive doing better and that was a great picture of that hawk at the beginning see you next time God bless
Hi Kajun, yeah man that was crazy with that queen. I guess she didn't care for me being in her business and was hiding out on the bottom there. That was a red shouldered hawk. We've had nesting pairs of them around here for quite a few years. They are fun to watch. That was also four bucks there after the hawk, just starting their antler buds. Thanks for watching.
Hi Newness of LIfe Farm. Yeah, that was a stroke of luck I noticed that. I very well could have scraped her off down there in the grass. lol Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing. Was supposed to be sunny 60 F with a 5mph SW breeze.... no biting bugs yet. Back to wet grey stick season here in central New Hampshire, 50 F rainy. Overnight temps predicted to drop to lower to mid 30's for the next 2 weeks. Lots of tree pollen. Forsythia just opening today. Take care
Dang, I'm glad you got it taken care of. I hope all is well with your recovery. You might get one of those bee hive lifter gadgets. Have a nice restful recovery. Take care.
Look at those Redbuds bud out. Hopefully the hive increases in size quickly. We have rain here today. I expect swarming to start next week. Thanks for the video like always
Hi Dave. Yeah, the redbuds are in full bloom right now. They will last about another week and all the green pedals will come out and flowers drop off. I'm going to search for swarm cells this weekend if I can fit it in with everything else. Thanks for stopping in.
Darren, hopefully you’ll get another 500+ subscribers real soon! On those frames with drone brood, you can use your hive tool and tear the cappings up and put the frame back in the hive and the bees will clean it up immediately. They will drag out the damaged pupae and larvae. I did it yesterday before lunch and by 5:00pm there was a pile of whit pupae on the ground in front of the hive. I was putting a new caged mated Queen in so I gave them something to do other than eat the Queen candy plug. Great introduction on this one with the wildlife!
Hi Don. I stuck that drone frame into a strong hive. I think they will tear off the caps and get them out as well. Sounds like you got some queens in the mail. lol Yeah that was four bucks that came through a couple weeks ago. I'm surprised they are up in here and it's not rut season. They are already starting bumps on their heads for the new set of antlers. Thanks for stopping in.
Thanks Don - those are the ones we got planted pre-falling off the porch with the jar in her hand. lol Oh yeah, her shoulder has been hurting since then and got an MRI, and half the ligaments in her shoulder were torn in the same accident, so now shoulder surgery 4/26. Sheesh!
Wow that could have been bad with your queen on the bottom board ( good eye ) . Looks like you have those hives heading in the correct direction. As always thanks for all your info and video’s.
Hi Kathy. Yeah, I got lucky and avoided a disaster with that queen. I always check out those little clumps like that. I've found queens out in the grass, some of them virgin queen, in the summer and you can start a new colony with them. Thanks for watching.
I still have cart envy :) Trees are budding nice, the bees should have better food choices soonish. Wacky weather I get ya, we had 8inc. snow 2days ago in SW WA lol, set a new record. Weather front from Alaska had 78 and spring then WINTER lol showed back up for a few days now. I get a lol out of the little fast forwards :) That paper worked good. Is that a spotty, shotgun pattern or has it just not been long enough yet? Ty, Blessed Days...
Hey DC - better get you one of those carts before the prices start going crazy. We had that one calm day and then windy ever since. I'm ready for a break in all that wind. Yeah she doesn't have the best pattern. I think maybe because that comb up there had pollen mixed in with blank cells. We'll see. I think the patterns down below were better than the ones in the top. I put a clean empty comb there in her brood chamber as well, so hopefully she'll fill it all up. Thanks for stopping in, and good luck.
Well I didn't see slash in that group of deer. Have you seen him lately? I can't believe that you spotted that queen. I would have assumed she would have stayed on the frame. You saved yourself some grief there. How soon before you get a nectar flow? My bees got out for three days and got some maple pollen and nectar. Now for almost 10 days we will have crap f
I haven't seen slash in awhile. I thought that might have been him there in the front, but I couldn't see the cut ear. Definitely lucky on that queen. We should be at the start of the flow right now with the redbuds in full bloom. I guess you take what you can get with the weather these days. The wind has been persistent here for sure. Take care.
Hi Darrell. This time of year, I will let them go to fill it in and be set for winter. We're starting the heavy nectar flow and there's few pests around, like hive beetles & wax moths to give them trouble. I'll keep my eye on them. If it were June/July, or basically any other time, I definitely would reduce them down. Thanks for watching.
Hi Jon. I haven't opened them up to look, but I suspect the really strong hives are all up in them. It is a little early, but the flow is starting pretty good here I think. Thanks for watching.
Reduce the first hive to a single brood chamber. The bees will build up faster as they will be able to maintain better heat and queen can lay more brood.
It's pretty much warmed up here now and we are in the nectar flow. They should build up really fast if that queen can keep laying. I'll keep an eye on it.
Yeah, it's good for starting fires and filling trash cans. lol Jury is out on using it for combines. It probably works ok, but not if you want them separate for more than a couple days. I didn't put any slits in the paper either. Thanks for watching.
Hi Kevin. Yeah, I saw that front go through central US today. I hope everything was safe. There were some tornados down in texas south of me. Take care.
@@JeromeBeeFarm split my strongest hive today and it was cat and mouse finding the queen. Removed all the frames and finally found her on the wall in bottom hive body.
I wish you luck, but two deeps are too much space for the amount of bees that are in there. The colony needs to be condensed into one box until they get going. Perhaps a supplemental feeding of 1:1 syrup will help too. My Piscean intuition tells me you're going to keep having issues with that colony.
Hey Mr. Cotton. This is the only time of year that I would leave them like that. The nectar flow is kicking in right now and threat of pests is low. If they are still like that in June/July, I will take them down. I have high hopes for that queen. lol I have a few others that are about the same strength and I kept them in the two deeps. They are mostly in one box though, and they got rotated to the bottom box. It will be interesting to follow it's progress. Thanks for your comment.
Wow! Queen went on walkabout.... A good learning experience for all of us to witness.

Good catch on that Queen! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing

Hi Lamb Brook. NH is a beautiful state. I'm envious. You won't be far behind us as far as springtime. Thanks for watching.
I missed talking to you I was in the hospital for 11 days I had a triple hernia repair nice to hear from you again God bless

@@JeromeBeeFarm that's exactly how I got hurt lifting those boxes full of honey that's no joke thanks for the reply my friend be safe
It's amazing how heavy they can get. I weighed some full deeps one time and they were very close to 100 lbs.
