    It’s this or the Chronoblob 2- and although I love Make Noise gear the size, and the fact that it’s about £200 more, mitigates rather against the Mimeophon. Not without a backward glance mind you… Thanks for the demo.

    • @rdean150

      Erica Pico DSP is probably the best choice for tiny form factor delay module. 3hp. It is very limited in terms of delay times, modulation and sonic flexibilty (esp compared to Mimeophon - really not even the same league), but the sound quality is quite good. Much better than 2hp Delay, which is very metallic sounding. It also has more than just delay, it's a multi fx module with good audio quality in a tiny footprint.

    Hi Mylar, how do you compare this to the Rainmaker?

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vastly different thing - one is a more simple delay and reverb (obviously with huge range and tricks up its sleeve). The other is basically a H3000 in Eurorack. Sort of.

    • @ThreetomModular
      @ThreetomModular 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      mylarmelodies if you could get only one, which one would you pick and why?

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ThreetomModular It totally depends on your musical goals and how you like to interact with things. My needs aren't necessarily the same as yours. If I pick one it's like saying that one is better, but that isn't true or fair. So if you crave live immediacy, simplicity, quick results, and more 'traditional' sounds, Mimeophon may be more quickly gratifying. But bear in mind Rainmaker loads presets and has controls to rinse live (note: Mod A, Mod B). You would spend a LOT of time learning the Rainmaker and making presets for it, but once made, it's capable of nearly anything a delay can do, plus there's a comb filter. With Mimeophon you'll pretty much have mastered it in an hour, but it doesn't do as much. If someone told me I could only have one effect forever, I'd obviously pick the Rainmaker. But Mimeophon is in my live case currently (Rainmaker is in my studio case)

    • @ThreetomModular
      @ThreetomModular 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mylarmelodies Thanks a lot for such an elaborate answer, it helps a lot :). I just sold my Magneto, and I'm trying to decide what I'll get instead. What bothered me a bit about the Magneto is that I found it wasn't that great throw modulation at and the amount of sounds you could get out of it was perhaps a bit too limited. I think both the Mimeophon and the Rainmaker should be better in that regard. I wonder if I will find the Mimeophon limited or not after a while. The random function on the Rainmaker also seems to hold a lot of potential for instant gratification, no?

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely. There’s no question which one is capable of the most variety - it’s a question of immediacy vs raw potential.

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Listen in the vid carefully and you can hear noise - I mention it actually, but only with repeats. Eg. It’s a delay so it compounds sound, including when you feed it noisy analog signals. I don’t think it adds noise of its own, it highlights your noisy path!! And the colour knob instantly rolls off the noise if you use it slightly. I think people are barking up the wrong tree?
