Honey Badger: The Perfect $32 Knife

- It's hard enough to make a good knife for under $40. But here's a great one: the Ultratech Honey Badger. I struggle to find anything wrong with it. Good blade steel (even D2 is offered), great blade shape, sharp, jimping is spot on, deep carry clip, xlnt colors, ball bearing pivot point, and lots more. Again we are in a Golden Age of Great Knives and there are lots of great ones that I review. Few are those that get so many things right and can still slide under my stringent $40 value knife goal. Buy the whole collection; they are that good.

My badger arrived this morning. I am in love. Head over heels. The opening is mint with those bearings. It feels good in the hand and the honeycomb scales should work great in slick conditions. My pointer finger is a little bit big to choke up high but it doesn't cut me when I do so. I already installed the zip tie and hope to do some stone washing on the blade! Thank you for introducing us!!

Just ordered it! I can't wait to try it out! I'm currently running a cheap-ish kershaw that I had to regrind due to snapping the tip off. I beat the hell out of that knife. Let's see how this one holds up!
Currently have 3 Honey Badger knives, small, large, TNP Tuxedo special edition. Two guys at work have also bought them in the large size. Easy to sharpen on whetstone.

Got the small Honey Badger in Tan a few months back and I love it!
During WWII my father was on the USS Chandeleur. It was a supply vessel and tender for PBMs and PBYs. Very cool aircraft.

Carried a HB for 2 years - General EDC abuse and is still tight and sharp. For the money, cant be beaten.

The Mariner is a cool airplane but the Privateer is tops in my book. Truly some unsung heroes of WW2, the Privateer crews were total badasses and the stories of their missions are really hair raising. Thanks for adding ANOTHER knife to my shopping list.

love the channel. I still fall into the buying foreign products for price reasons, hell some Japanese steel is the best there is.... but you always have to wonder how bad the labor practices are to keep costs so low....

Just randomly picked up the tan/brown medium Honey Badger tonight at SMKW while on vacation in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Sevierville, TN. Cost $33 I think. The deployment is insane for being non-assisted. Next to my Tenacious, night be my new nearly favorite knife! And I LOVE 8CR13MOV blade steel!

Another knife under $30 I just picked up is a Eafengrow EF914 flipper . D2 steel ball bearing pivot, skeletonized liners, G10 grip, super cool ergos. Could use abit more gimping on the handle & blade spine.... But worth checking out.
Picked up a medium blue D2 blade. I will test it out. So many knives in my rotation. Happy to add another one! BTW, I am not EDC'ing my blue Nutn Fancy Spyderco Dragonfly!!!
I have the Honey Badger Hawkbill knife and love it. It replaced my 5.11 karambit.
With a 8CR13MOV blade steel (which is a perfectly fine steel), $32 sounds about right. Sick looking blade though; reminiscent of the Spyderco Amalgam.

I like the pachmyer grunt, its was 35 bux. When I bought it off Amazon I saw a knife on there that looked almost identical for 15 and while there are some nice additions and upgrades on the $35 version it is a solid knife with the exact same blade. The cheap version lacks gemping, clip position options, cheaper scales and the hardware is not a high quality but the blades are exactly the same (from the same maker) and it has the ball bearing style hinge. The main difference in the 2 seems to be that the higher priced grunt has a more positive and stiffer liner lock while the cheaper version is insanely smooth and fast to deploy (seems to be faster than assisted knife IMHO) because they remove just a small amount of material at the bend to lighten the spring force on the liner lock. Its and awsome value for 15 bux even if I still prefer the more refined and higher quality $35 grunt.
After watching your Microtech SOCOM vid, I wanted to mention getting the FDE large Honey Badger, per this vid. I’m admittedly highly budget conscious and this knife I prefer over a Tenacious or Cryo II that I was considering. I appreciate saving me a few bucks and getting my toes deeper into the knifedom waters.

CJRB has some really good stuff right now in the under $40 range. D2, G10, ball bearings...I got a crag for shits and gigs and it totally exceeded my expectations. The only thing it needs is jimping.

I think I'll get me one of those first chance I get. Been on a knife hunt anyways. Settled for a Amazon cheapo and I'm not gonna lie ... its reallyyy not that bad. It's easy to sharpen at least.
I got 4 of these, the large in black the small in black the medium guthook in green and a medium claw in black. The top of the pocket on the claw has a little hot spot which is annoying.
I bought one about 1.5yrs ago. They were made in South Africa back then, I believe.

Olight is OVERPRICED and their UIs suck. Klarus n Thrunite are sooo much better. My Klarus XT11GT blows away any 'comparable' olight .

Kershaw Fraxion beats the small version. Same steel, thinner width, bbs, and 1/2oz lighter for 23$ now on HQ. Not deep carry though

Handle a Cold Steel Drop Forged boot knife. Best $40 that punches above it's weight. Their push knife especially does.

I’m sure this has been answered a million times, but why the zip ties? Is it to give something to push against when opening one handed?
It is used as a wave feature for when taking the knife out of the pocket...the zip tie catches on the inside of the pocket as you pull the knife out of the pocket....the blade "waves " open.

Hmmm, draws slower than any of my blades with an "Emerson Wave" feature. By the time you take your blade out of your pocket, mine is already drawn and thrusting towards you, no tacky zip ties needed.
You should reach out for a TNP edition.
