- This is the first ever Goku Amiibo in Smash Ultimate. With the help of mods, we are able to train the community created iconic Dragon Ball character but will the Amiibo's AI actually catch on? Will it learn to play a character that doesn't actually exist in Smash?

Tip: If you're going to add spirits to an amiibo, add them before training. Essentially, ammibos function as a set of numbers that determine how likely they are to use a move in a specific scenario. Training your ammibos can increase or decrease these numbers depending on how the player plays, which is also why fightning an amiibo with a different character is not a good idea unless training is off. Adding spirits randomizes these numbers, effectively undoing most of the work that was done (according to amiibo doctor).

giving a amiibo spirits after you trained them makes them unlearn everything you did, you have to give them spirits before, you wasted your time by doing it in the opposite order
In other words put spirits before you do anything.

Imagine you do Vegeta as well 😂. So I think you have to take the lucario amiibo right?
You gotta put him over the top of a character whose side b puts them into freefall, like ganon. Or at least, put goku over top of a more simple character who wont have hardcoded specialized skills like light/heavy tilts and normal canceling. Those down air SD's too, might be nice to put goku on top of a character who also has the stall and fall down air like him, so the ai is smart enough not to use it off stage. Maybe bowser, but not ridley, because ridley will be programmed to use side b offstage
Having it use Ganondorf's AI seems like it would solve almost all of its problems, that's a great idea.
I think Sonic might solve a lot of these issues because he has the same down air and can only really recover with up special

I think there are spirits that will actually get your amiibo to taunt more. Owain from fire emblem is one of them, iirc. Maybe reyn too
not knowledgeable about modding but maybe if goku were over a different character that has a similar recovery (e.g. mewtwo for the teleport?) it wouldnt have the same problems

I would try training again WITH the spirits you want. Helps them learn how to use them!
Amazing! To think that Goku now exists as a amiibo! Now I feel speechless. But I wonder if I can battle it.
Personally I had the best results when I trained the amiibo with a ditto cpu for the first 10~20 levels. I found they ended up with much better basics: better movement and less prone to spamming. Then I would go in and obliterate it with whatever combos I wanted it to know. I don’t normally use spirits, but I’m pretty sure it’s best if you apply them first.

so how it works is that it doesn't matter how much you train an amiibo, the recovery is hard coded, the only thing u can influence is the input rng values, i suggest if you guys do this again choose an already existing ai that has a similar recovery route and better ai, i think kazuya would've been better
they cant change what character the mod is over lol thatd take months of work to make goku's amiibo work like kazuya
You sound so smart in this comment but you don't know what you're talking about
Modders base move sets on existing characters because of their animations, proportions, and bone physics. Designing custom move sets and characters are processes that could take multiple months. It’s not worth the time, energy, or sanity to make a custom character amiibo.

To be honest I don't think amiibos actually "train" anything. I'm pretty sure they're basically just a lvl 10 cpu that slowly ramps up as you "train" them until it reaches the maximum level.
ohhhh no, theres an ENTIRE discord server and community dedicating to figuring out the code behind training amiibos, its actually very interesting- you can! But it is WEEIIRDD, and cool!! its a good watch if youre interested!
There was an experiment where a Pikachu was trained with only down b and the Pikachu amiibo ended up using down b more than an amiibo would otherwise. Interesting stuff.
Amiibo can input anything a human could on a controller, so you can "teach" them any thing really
