That’s why Anvil 3 went alone without any infantry or air support.

It was an emergency relief force. Originally, Miller and his team are suppose to support a general assault into the city. But with Misfit finding a nuke and with the bank become under fire by infantry and tank. They need to immediately send a fast support unit to infiltrate enemy defense to quickly reach Misfit. That's how Miller got there.
Bf3 campaign was criticized at the time. But i thought it was the best campaign I've ever played in Bf series. Plus if u read the novel, it makes it better.

The armor is thinnest on top and infantry having an elevated position directly over you like in a building is a nightmare scenario for tank crews, that's why tanks operating in urban environments with no infantry support is a huge no-no for any organized military. Sadly there was no choice here due to the emergency with the nuke, and you see how quickly things went wrong for the tanks.
