The map drawn in the sand was very impressive and served as an excellent tool to show the main trading capitals and sea route to Cornwall.

A fascinating episode with a great story unravelled. I love watching members of the Team all doing their thing and also Time Team Fans Facebook Admin Carl describing the pottery.

Most people don't realise that our Cornish tin and copper has been found as far away as Egypt. And so has our gold, that's another thing people don't realise about Cornwall, gold was mined/panned here in the iron age, a lot of which ended up in Ireland and Europe..

The trouble with the thesis presented is that there is little evidence of Roman occupation in Cornwall. It would appear that the Romans were happy to allow the indigenous population of Cornwall to trade metals for mediterranean goods relatively unhindered. Although, the Romans probably got a “cut of the action”.

FWIW I'm sceptical about ships coming from the Mediterranean to trade with Cornwall. To me it;s more likely that traders criss-crossed the Med tarding in various ports, with of their wares ending up in places such as Marseilles and were then taken through France along the river networks to the French Atlantic and Channel ports where they could be shipped across to Cornwall and other destinations - a much safer passage than rowing through the Bay of Biscay.

The usual excellent Time Team program sadly marred as usual by ancient lands being called by their modern names. Turkey did not exist at the time of the settlement they were excavating was in being but some of the pottery found was on several occasions said to have come from Turkey when the land it came from was still very much the Eastern Roman Empire and would not become Turkey for about another 800 years thus putting it in a false historical context.
