That's a lady I would love to have a conversation with. Helen Geake's breadth of knowledge and infectious enthusiasm, she would be such a joy to discuss theories and finds with over tea.
Native people of the California coast didn't use pottery much. They made tightly woven baskets, filled them with water, acorn mash, berries, etc. They heated stones and put them in the mixture. It would heat up quickly.
Northwest CoSalish used baskets and also cedar boxes made from bending wood to make a water tight box for cooking. And cooked by pitcooks, roasting salmon on stakes. Not a lot of pottery.

Hi, thanks for this. We're aware of some issues with the audio balance on some Classics episodes. We're reviewing this and hope to address it for future release of more episodes, coming soon
The plains indigenous people of North America cooked without pottery. They formed vessels from skins and dropped hot rocks into it. Also roasting meat and vegetables also happened
Pottery and birch baskets vessels were also used, and in some instances, small canoes, to boil water. Cooking itself can take place without boiling water
I've been binge watching the Time Team for weeks now. I love the show and especially this one. To be honest probably because we finally found a Saxon hall and Phil's DNA and how happy he was about it. Am I correct that this commentary was done in 2021?
For me a good TimeTeam began with Ian's delicate work followed by Phil jumping in and shouting 'Ooh arr, there's some nice pot in here'. The man was greatly skilled.

*Key Academic Points that require the Standards to resolve come to mind.* This was a particularly interesting Time Team Show, as it offered an expanded findings of Anglo Saxen Era and it introduced the DNA aspect with Phil. This being a subject of Original English vs Anglo Saxon British, and the sort of mysterious "English Male Disappearance". (A subject Modern Academics/Archaeologists avoid due to our Social Consciousness around "ethnic cleansing subjects", a fear of the Public's reaction, understandably. Yet, Scientifically it requires a clarity, if possible. Obviously, if the majority of Adults, Academics, Professionals, and General Public understood what is required for "Mature Mind", "(Conscious Thoughts + applying Higher Mind", then subjects could be studied, shared, and expressed, absent of fears and Drama. The "Standards of Science and Research" require this, i.e. "Authentic Academics", but "Mainstream Academics" have geared of this *Value* and we can observe the symptoms that result from "holding a 19th Century Theory and their applied Timeline and Paradigm, as their focal fact foundation". Most frustrating, we are so limiting the obvious finds and it has caused all the worries to be distorted. Much required a revisit an applications of *"the Standards of Science and Research".* Copy of my comment from the show: Celts being a yet to define with DNA description, but known DNA Studies Outcotcomes give the subject of original English, Welsh, and Irish, their lineage Orgin to *"the Basque".* Thus some refer to this with: *"if the Basque are the orgin of the Celts, then Celts is the correct reference".* I've begun to use Gaelic after these findings were announced. But, the point remains the same focus. If interested, here's a Copy 9f my Comment on this Subject: *Clarification point need:* Celts vs Gaelics and the Orgin of the early English, Welsch, and Irish (Go Irish! My predominant ancestry. 🍀), was found to have been from the post-flood era Basque. "We love our Basque origins!" The tenacious individuals that Julius Caesar even avoided, references of his instructions to Military Officers to avoid the Basque when en route to their destination as, "they are time costing tough opponents that can't easily be put down, it at all". 😁 "Phil Harding" very much has the Tenatious Spirit of his Stock! I'm proud to share a Human Heritage with my cousin "Phil". Tragically the male lines of the more original English have notably been erradicated, replaced by Anglo Saxons. This has been referenced and studies are available on the subject, although to my knowledge they have yet to make a decisive statement on the actual cause(s). It likely has to do with a type of "ethnic cleansing of the male locals" during one of more waves of invasions and their aftermath. (NOTE: One can observe that Academics avoid subjects of such nature "even when evidence is looking them in the eyes".) This is a point that I find quite unscientific, while understanding that the Public responds through Social Minds and they can be excused to a large degree for this point. Be that as it may, History has many cases of Male Ethnic Cleansing, a most lower-minded Thought Trait yet very "Male Alpha Animal Trait" in nature. Overall, when the now findings emerge in the Public (in the past 20 years that seems to take 10 years, but that will not be the case for too much longer. There will be a number of very worthy subjects receiving an emergence of facts for Public awareness, and the Genetics/DNA research, studies, and mapping of data for migrations worldwide is one of these subject points. Frankly, the holdup at present is largely due to "Authentic Academics, those whom follow the "Standards of Science and Research" avoiding the reactions of their counterparts in "Mainstream Academia", those whom hold a 19th Century Theory and its Timeline and Paradigm they wrote, as their Fact Foundation (a bubble that could only burst given time). There's a subject that Academics, Government Officials, and the "ologists" that advocate for the greater Publuc's Psychological Wellbeing that must be considered prior to the related Subjects having a "Full Facts Disclosure" and that's "Cognitive Dissonance", a personal response to information that reflects a very different story in reality than we believed, this having an Emotional Impact on the Whole at varying degrees. Patience and kniwing all will be well, even better that our current use as describe, is my advice for all and that which I apply for myself. ...a Sociologist and History Researcher. Keep a Positive Thought for self and others always, it will serve your greater desires with matching results. (The "Universal Law of Attraction" is Absolute.) Best Wellbeing ...

Hi guys, If you look up Daggerwin on TH-cam, he's just found some very interesting earthworks in a field he's farming. I'd recommend getting involved! :)
About that bone needle … the camera footage shows the needle being uncovered, and it appears that the needle was point upwards in the interior of the posthole, in the area that might have been occupied by the post before it rotted away. I’m wondering how the needle came to be in that position and location. Was it inserted in a hole or crack in the bottom of the post before the post was planted in the earth? Was it set in the hole beside the post and soil packed back around it? And…whatever the cause, wasn’t that a pretty significant symbolic action by whoever left the needle.?
That's true. There are two clips here on TH-cam of Ian's expertise. One with the grape and Paul, the other of peeling a banana held by Tim. Ian had amazing skill.
Ceremonial practice which goes back at least 10 thousand years to when the great stone structures of the time were being built. There were various reasons a culture would do such things; to give a sacrifice to thank a deity for the land use; to ward off attacks or disasters; to claim ownership of the structure. Basically a blessing for good things to happen. Today's version is the when a cornerstone or foundation stone is laid, when a ships keel is laid, or when mast stepping, the few I can think of
We do not needany reason from you to follow your digs. We are everytime interestest in what is going on. Me, personally, am very interested in the Anglo-frisian-saxson time. As we should know the Romans where no people from Rome nor Italy . Tacticus wrote already they had mayor groups of frisian military in Roman time. Old englis is most similar to Old Frisian, so probaly they were in UK before the other groups came in (Jutes, Angels and Sakson). In the Netherlands (Old Frisian parts) a lot of place-names who are revering to tribes comming from Denmark and Germany. (Englum, Saxon, Engelum etc.). So, they probably did not sale from Denmark/Norden Germany to England, but came through the Netherlands/Frisia to the coast of South of the Netherlands/ South of Frisia. This could explain why the Angels turned up in East-Wessex instead of somewhere in Northumbria.
as far as DNA...are the results from just general DNA samples or is it X or Y chromosome. Most of the Saxons/Danes would have been men from Teens to 30s. If it was just a elite replacement, id doubt that the religion would just immediately change and 2nd Id dare say you would see alot of Saxon/Christian burials intermixed. as it is, it seems that mix of graves dont occur that often. If the population was mixed between British native and Saxon then so too should the graves and burial traditions.
Brian Sykes' Oxford Ancestors offered YDNA & mitochondrial DNA tests, but it is closed now. The technology used in 2007 has now really been superseded in accuracy and Phil may well get slightly different results using 23andme, LivingDNA or FamilyTreeDNA (the latter offers much more in-depth tests). As an example, Sykes' team tested Cheddar Man's maternal line as U5a, and there was a lot of reporting at the time regarding a link to a local school teacher, but the more recent Natural History Museum research showed him to be U5b1. There is a very good video on Cheddar Man and the early settlement of Britain and the DNA of its people by Dr. Tom Booth of the NHM team. I'll post the youtube link in a reply, but in case it doesn't show up, search for 'Cheddar Man & the Origins of the British (Tom Booth) '. From the results of the Peoples of the British Isles DNA project, as well as the subsequent Irish DNA Atlas and the Genetic Landscape of Scotland and the Isles studies we have a much better understanding of the DNA of Britain than we did back then. It is probably not possible for us to be sure whether Phil's male line was pre or post Anglo-Saxon invasion as England's DNA is so mixed up, and mostly R1b and subclades which reflects the Yamnaya replacement of the stone age Neolithic farmers c. 2500BC over most of western Europe.
