The Cox tractor drive is far simpler and lasts for donkeys years. 2 tapered drive plates attached to the axle and a movable tapered fibre cone that is moved left or right to give you forward and reverse. Different pressure applied to the drive pedal allows for infinitely adjustable speed. The tapered fibre drive wears out after about 10 seasons of mowing and takes 5 minutes and $20 to replace. Done.
Just the fact itself that those are friction wheels and not gears, reduces enormously the efficiency of the mechanism, compared to a gear transmission system...
New transmission CVT design by BitRaptor. Is a continuously variable transmission CVT gear only (the only one functional in the world), very compact and lightweight, and which could replace the current systems both for efficiency, simplicity and not least the costs. Because this CVT work only with pinions is better the all other systems by efficiency and high torque transmission. In the web page bitraptor com you will find more explanations, drawings and a short video of a basic prototype.
You are kidding right. This power transmission is extremely well designed. Typical garden tractors have governed engines that are directly coupled to the power transmission. Usually the "clutch" is just a belt that "slips" when the pedal is depressed. This design allows the engine to be coupled to the transmission 100% of the time. I am also sure that you could not pull a 2 bottom plow with this design, but garden tractors are typically for "light duty" use, not as an "implement of husbandry." It also looks cheaper than a hydrostatic drive, but who am I?
isnt this impractical for any real application because that toothless metal gear on that toothless metal plate would slip? i realize it is impossible to add teeth...

Awesome
Another great animation by Optical 3D
Nice gear
i like it.. this transmission allows you to go in reverse at full speed. lol
I love gears.

If reduction gear set were swopped out for a high gear set could this application support a high performance racing vehicle ?

Прикольная штука, только как быстро съест диски?
too much reduction why? and looks like power lost on 2 stages is very high and what machine can use this?
looks really really awesome but this will slip because of the Friction !!!
Is this a real thing or just an idea in a CAD program? Show me the money!
this is the most ridiculously inefficient transmission I've ever seen.

Выглядит не надёжно. На первый взгляд эта конструкция врядли может выдержать хоть сколько-нибудь значимый момент...
