  • First impressions of the Swaro Z8i. The contrast, clarity and light transmission of this scope is truely brilliant. Boasting a wide field of view matched on a Sako Bavarian chambered in 30-06 this will be a great driven or spot and stalk rifle.

Thanks for the video. Congratulations on a truly first class hunting rifle package. Since I'm in the upper midwest USA I have scoped several of my full stock carbines with low power or fixed power Leupold scopes. Not quite the same level of optic as your Swarovski but certainly up to anything I need.

Does the POI of the rifle change due to the full length stock? I heard that Mannlicher style rifle stock because it puts pressure on the barrel. Am am asking specifically about the rifle, not the scope

Not at all mate. It’s not a free floating barrel.

I just purchased a 85 Bavarian in 30-06 last week and put a Z6i 2.5 x15x44 on it I have as yet to pick the rifle up so your thoughts on the illuminated reticle would be appreciated especially how did you find it during bright daylight hours.

Hi Hank, the illumination featured on the Z6i's is faultless even in the daylight. The brightest setting will be more than ample and for me its as quick as a reflex sight on the low power. Good choice there buddy.

Great stuff! Love Swarovski scopes and binoculars! I was wondering if you could tell me if you experience any lacking accuracy or velocity loss due to the shorter 20" barrel, compared to some of the 22-24" barrelled rifles out there? Im very much considering buying the same Sako 85 Bavarian carbine, in a 308W, but fear the shorter barrel might loose too much power at 100-150m, for red deer/Elk and other medium sized game. What are your experience with the rifle in general?
    Thanks!

Max Caysey you’ll be absolutely fine in the .308 caliber with this barrel length buddy. You can always hand load to tweak but in my experience you’ll get great results with this set up and mich further if needed. Out of the box this one was sub moa open sights! It’s about half inch now and I’ve done absolutely no upgrades.

@@IntotheMountains Thank you for your answer!
I don't expect ill be shooting anything over 200m so that sounds good. If it comes to game like moose, would you recon that 308 is still enough? Again, at around 100-150m?
      Cheers

Max Caysey no worries mate. I’ve taken a lot of sambar with a 308 no problems. A few friends have taken moose with 308 but I have not personally as I’m yet to target them. Maybe best to speak to your local hunting club regarding that species but I’m sure with a well placed shot the 30cals will be fine.

@@IntotheMountains Thank you again. I have read that its fine for moose, if you have a clear side-on shot, within descent range, so that should be good, but they don't mention barrel length, and since I have only been able to find info that suggest you loose 25 ft/s per inch, I don't know it that honors the legal aspect of the energy needed for taking down moose at say 100m... But talking to you have removed some of my fears, which was nice!
So again thanks for your help!
      Cheers

Max Caysey I love this gun so much. I’ve owned mine about 2 years in 30-06. Great scope choice too. You’ve inspired me!

Hey Daz, how does your 85 ejecting the cases with the larger windage turret cap? What a lovely set up mate. Hope to see you harvest some game soon. Keep well.

    • @IntotheMountains

Mine has been fine mate. I’ve slow mo video’d the ejection a few times as people have told me they have issues. Mine ejects slightly up and out. I’ve heard of some rifles going nearly straight up. There must be some tolerance differences in the ejectors with these 85s. I had a problem with one of my other 85 models crunching the brass on ejecting but it was repaired under warranty without any issues.

Have you experienced any larger bang or noise when shooting it...again I'm thinking the shorter barrel and being 30.06, compared to maybe other 30.06s or longer barrel rifles? And how about muzzle flare?

Why is it so hard to find the quick release Opti Locks? Does anyone know where they can be purchased?

I really appreciate your videos on the rifle + scope. I'm drooling after one and as you mentioned in your first video, you want to get as much info on it as possible before a purchase.

Emil Maxén you’ll love it mate. Took a while to work my way up to it but all the saving is worth it. The quality is honestly superb.

@@IntotheMountains I think I will! I love full stocks. How come you chose to get one? Was it just this Sako or do you like full stocks in general? I bought an Antonio Zoli 1900 FS second hand for almost no money at all just because it reminded me of the Bavarian Carbine.
