I appreciate how instead of battle strategy or difficulty or team composition etc you focus more on the character lore and how the gym leader works at their job of being a gym leader and an effective member of their community. Especially with Norman and Drayden. Norman actually has gym trainers who act as a lite education on the main stats (attack, special attack, defence, special defence and speed) and secondary/hidden stats (accuracy, evasion and critical hits). Even if his battle team is not the most difficult in battle if you know how to navigate past Truant, his character and lore make him more appealing. He's the father of the player character but he seems estranged to them as a parent because he's too busy with his job. Even if he isn't being a gym leader, he's helping budding trainers with their Pokémon journeys. Case and point Wally. I like the running joke of Norman being a better father figure to Wally than Wally's dad and having a better mentor relationship with Wally than his own offspring. But I also see that as him relaxing his grip on the reins on his child just enough to give them the freedom to figure out their own path as he watches from afar, anticipating their battle during the first 4 gym battles, and watching from behind with pride afterwards. Drayden is just a crazy character. A lot of gen 5 characters are impeccably written and very well designed. Drayden is no exception, with such an intimidating character design with the tall muscular frame in the strapping formal attire, the serious and stoic eyebrows, gentlemanly combed hair, and lastly the gravity defying beard that resembles a reptiles jaw. Peak character design for thematic representation. His writing is also great given that he's got an actual important job, he's the mayor of the town. His strong stoic stature mirrors his personality of being a strong and stoic figurehead and voice of the people in the township of Opelucid. He doesn't seem to hesitate when it comes to making quick decisions about the overall benefit and safety of others. He takes both of his jobs as the gym leader and the mayor very seriously given in any iteration of any of his appearances, he is always shown with strong high level Pokémon at either the second last or very last gym battle in the game.
Norman is honestly the best leader at being a leader at his gym. Teaching the values of the many aspects of battle. From accuracy, to defense, and even putting emphasis on not fully relying on lowering stats; using other means to gain advantage like mud sport to weaken electric moves, covet and bestow to have held item control, and using multi-hit moves like fury swipes to up the odds of a high rolling attack.
This video made me think what if each region went to war. Which region of native and legendary Pokémon and Pokémon trainers would win. Would the legendaries even assist their region? Like I’m sure Zacian and Zamazenta would for sure help Galar but would Arceus help Sinnoh? Would Groudon and Kyogre be busy fighting each other or would they help protect their region. Damn I’m too lazy to research this
In my own opinion (in terms of character, lore, design and strength) Gen 1 = Giovanni (Yes he is evil but his strength and influence alone influenced the story all the way to Gen 2 and Gen 7) Gen 2 = Clair (she is very strong. Whitney isnt strong, many players dont know that Whitney is easy. Just use Machop from the NPC trade or just lowet Miltank accuracy with Mudslap. A TM you get from the 1st gym. Clair's Kingdra has no weakness at the time since you wont have access to any good dragon types and dragon is also weak against itself so you cant beat Clait with a type advantage.) Gen 3 = Wallace (R/S only since he is the champion in Emerald) Gen 4 = Volkner (He is so strong in lore that he got bored in battling since no one could best him. He find battles boring as a result. Until you, the protaginist came along.) Gen 5 = Iris (She may be annoying in the anime but she is strong enough and worthy to be a champion in the sequel) Gen 6 = Korrina (Shes the only gym leader with Mega evolution if I remember correctly. That makes her the strongest in lore by default.) Gen 7 = (technically there are no gym leaders here but best trial captain for me is Kiawe) Gen 8 = Bea (she is very strong and so serious and disciplined that she barely even smiles. In the DLC, you can get a glimpse of her smile before you talk to her in the isle of armor overworld.) Gen 9 = Larry (Do I even need to explain this one?)
wait, we're just leaving out Jasmine's assistance of the lighthouse pokemon, protecting all the ships from the shore? as far as roark and byron, wooo fossil fuels! at least crasher wake helps out against galactic.
Bro I’ve never seen your vids but that thumbnail went so hard I had to click
I'm glad you don't focus primarily on their teams or stats but on lore with videos like this.
You always use the best visuals!

I don't know if I'd call team galactic discreet, I mean their buildings had giant spikes popping out of them💀
Will you do this kinda video, but for type as well, like who the best leader of each type...... Dark has slim pickings in that case tho....
