a big thing I've always loved about Gym Leaders, especially in the OG games, is that they taught you how to play and revealed to you new tactics that you couldn't see from regular battles. This was also pre-internet! Especially Erica, I remember seeing her wrap play and LOVING it or seeing her sun team and thinking ok cool that's how you build a team around sunny day. LOVE this appreciation video for the gym leaders that (back in the day) really felt like masters of the game.
Honestly, I think the bug gym in kalos is the best first gym out of every mainline game. its design is creative and fun, really different from the regular linear approach
I only played the first 3 gens as a kid, and gotta say the ones that gave me the most trouble were Sabrina, Whitney, and Winona. Definitely the ones that left the biggest impressions on me
I would highly recommend playing Gen 4 if you are still playing the pokemon games, hands down the best gen, Pokemon Platinum was amazing but HeartGold and SoulSilver were masterpieces
@MysticNightwing Gen 5 is good, prefer Gen 4 only because they have remakes of not 1 but practically 2 regions in HGSS with Johto and Kanto, Black 2 and White 2 were amazing though
Great Video Mystics These Gym leaders are just amazing, I like the concept of the Striaton City Gym Leader but I will say how Ash battled all three of them was really cool (while the outcome of the matches were inconsistent).
I used to struggle with Pryce as a kid. Never got to beat him in Gold and Silver. I managed to beat him in Crystal though, but even then, it took me a while to beat him.
I know you usually talk about the main games but you should do a video on either yhe best teams for pokemon fusions or the strongest fusions. I think that would be an awsome video!
I actually remember Pryce quite well due to the fact that he plays a big role in the Adventures manga and fun fact I actually battled him as my fifth gym badge for Soulsilver with the fire starter and he was fairly tough
great minds think alike i went with Erika for Kanto as well, grass and poison was a solid typing in Gen 1, its a shame however Pyshic types were just so good
This is such an interesting and unique idea for a vid and I loved it! Byron is probably my fave Sinnoh gym leader and the Canalave gym is such a cool and memorable experience, from the design to the trainers. I also didn't know that he and Roark were related to the underground man, that's pretty cool. Although I would say Ramos is probably a little more underrated than Viola since the first gym leader always stands out.
7:45 My theory in why a Pokemon trainer's looks reflects the pokemon type they specialize in is that all pokemon emit some low level energy or radiation related to their respective type. So when a trainer posseses a specific type of pokemon and thus are the type they are in constant contact with their pokemon are, unknowingly, little by little changing their dna so their physical appearance mutates in a way that reflects their type. This is specially noticible in trainers that have been specializing in a specific type since early infancy since the dna of a small is far more easily malleable during those early ages of physical development. This s may also explain the attachment and borderline obsession a trainer has eith a specific type. And finally this effects are more extreme and by extension more noticeable in trainers that specialize in a more ethereal pokemon types like ghosts and fairies which may explain the mental health and just plain weirdness of most ghost type trainers like the hex maniacs and the infamous ghost girl and the strange physical appearance of fairy type trainers like that one gym leader and the small ceeepy girls that for some reason are frolicking around alone in a forest with the weird looking eyes.
This is an interesting theory. However if that was true, all Gym Leaders of a specific type would have to at least look somewhat similar to each other. But considering how different for example the Water type trainers look (I'm thinking about Crasher Wake, Wallace, Siebold and Nessa) this is clearly not the case.
I actually like Pryce's team because it's true to the anime. I agree seal is a little wtf lol but if I was going to replace him I'd probably throw in a Cloyster since he's also seen having one in the anime at his gym.
I'm surprised that you think Katy is an underrated Gym Leader of Paldea, when to me, she is the most difficult Gym Leader I ever faced with her Bug Terastal Teddiursa being overpowered with Furry Cutter.

Hi mystics, did your opinion on Cilan, Chili, and Cress change because I remember you thought they sucked in your original opinion on gym leaders video. Just asking.
11:15 if you only did that to avoid copyright, I don’t think Dan Povenmire (the co-creator of Phineas and Ferb, and is also the voice of Doofenshmertz) would have any gripes with you singing the Doofenshmertz Evil Incorporated song. He actually enjoys people referencing Phineas and Ferb!
I think Katy is the most bland gym leader ever. You see her for the 5 minute gym battle, maybe in the Tournament, and nothing else. Also, aside from the small spiderweb on her apron, there is NOTHING that says she is a bug type specialists
Ah yeah Clemont. PERFECTION, THE FUTURE IS NOW THANKS TO SCIENCE. Best gym leader case closed the end. I really want him to see a future paradox pokémon because of his catchphrase
Gen 1 to 4 and 6-9 definitely gave me the best impression when battling the gym leaders / trial. Agree with the points you brought up. gen 5 is eh, how do you call it, skippable.
I play emerald and didn't finish it but the kingdra is a horror to fight, it has rest, ice beam, I think dragon dance or I thinking of the sky gym, double team and if u don't be careful u can be clap hard
i like Pryce and its understandable with the limited ice type options but its still inexplicable how Game Freak didnt help him in HGSS. like give him a glalie or weavile or give him that lapras. i get remakes want to be faithful to their original games but once you do, theres VERY VERY VERY limited options on things to do in HGSS in 2023 making the johto remakes in my mind the hardest to replay...
I only played RSE and FRLG for years. From like age 6. A year ago I got my first 3DS. Got Y and Ultra Moon. I think UM is easily the best ever made. The postgame clears everything
Wulfric was weak in the games but then you watch the anime and he’s built different. Ash hadn’t lost to a gym leader in kalos since viola and having played the games first I thought maybe Valerie or Olympia would hand him a second loss but to my surprise it was wulfric and his top of the line anime avalugg
Erika: Overshadowed by Misty due to the anime, and Sabrina's breasts... Pryce: At least he had a run as the big bad in the manga. Janine: Eternally overshadowed by her daddy issues. At least she has Falkner to give her the time day. Juan: He has a Luvdisc! Byron: Unless you're into the Bara genre he will always be second to Jasmine. And his own son. And the Flint/Volkner ship. The striatron trio: People know Cilan. It's his brothers that nobody talks about. Viola: At least she's human. Valerie is either an alien or a fairy who murdered some girl and are now wearing their skin. Opal: Blaine 2.0. Kathy: She has a backstory?! Sadly it makes more sense to do his gym before Chuck and the steel type gym😂😂 Also I remember I was so mad I couldn't beat Kingdra when I first played Emerald I literally went and caught Rayquaza with my master ball🤣
3:55 and 9:20: It’s pronounced FAHK-ner and viv-EE-YAHN, “Patrick Star”! 🤨 Stop mispronouncing Pokémon character names! 4:22: Also, it’s the other way around for the Sootopolis Gym Leader mentor and mentee duo (Juan and Wallace, respectively)! 🤨

I'm a simple man. I see the unova trio in the thumbnail and I click the video.
Who were rumored to be the shadow triad in the sequel but got debunked later on.

This video was great. I quite like how you talked about some Gym Leaders here.
One thing I appreciated about Pryce was that he had a much bigger role in the Adventures manga as the Masked Man.
The demon, silver kidnapper
I only played the first 3 gens as a kid, and gotta say the ones that gave me the most trouble were Sabrina, Whitney, and Winona. Definitely the ones that left the biggest impressions on me

For me its brawly in emerald, I remember going into this fight with grovyle and zigazagoon. It was a massacre. I agree with Sabrina and whitney
@attila8417 grovyle and zigzagoon? Wow you were brave!
Play the gen 5 games. They're the best of the best and that's a fact
@MysticNightwing Gen 5 is good, prefer Gen 4 only because they have remakes of not 1 but practically 2 regions in HGSS with Johto and Kanto, Black 2 and White 2 were amazing though

My favorite gym leaders, extremely underrated!
Those three brothers are pretty epic
I actually remember Pryce quite well due to the fact that he plays a big role in the Adventures manga and fun fact I actually battled him as my fifth gym badge for Soulsilver with the fire starter and he was fairly tough
He's an ice-type gymleader who manages to be weaker to grass than he is to fire.
That Mallow episode was so heart touching and i cry alot in that episode😢
For me, gen 6, the fairy gym leader was the one I forgot the most, but that's because I dont like fairy types I guess. Love the list like always

In pokemon conquest warlords for example Aya gets her perfect link pokemon froslass's outfit
Pryce is of the best gym leaders in pokespe
The entire kanto vs jhoto gym leaders arc was just fun
Bro forgot to mention Pryce in the Manga tho
The demon Silver kidnapper

Imagine if they made Pokemon Z where all gym leaders now uses mega evolution and Viola sends out a level 13 Mega Pinsir at you

I LOVE them! They're my favorite.
Nice video mystic
Yall sleepin on my normal type girl Lenora from black and white. Her librarian motif was adorable and her gym's riddles were fun

Grant in gen 6 is lowkey underrated I loved the rock climbing and in the anime he’s just so cool
What about kabu from galar? he’s pretty underrated I think.

I agree that they made Price pretty bad. In the manga, he's Johto's strongest gym leader and a badass villain. Why did they make him like this ?

I always ran shockwave and aerial ace so Juan's annoying kingdra wasn't a problem
