Busy vocalized every thought that popped into my head, from women not being able to own credit cards to Jerry Falwell's anti-abortion grift. Had me mentally fist pumping every time
I love the way that Busy is so passionate about putting politics into action. It's the type of attitude that we need more of, even if I personally think that working within the current system is a misdirection of energy. As a leftist (no, not a liberal, an actual leftist) I engage in voting solely because I see it as the most insignificant way to reduce harm. As a principle, the American government cannot solve the problems of most people who aren't white heterosexual males, because our government has built-in mechanisms that ensure the subjugation of marginalized peoples. Voting is an extremely non-specific act that does virtually nothing to change the immediate environment that surrounds you. Since the government is a hierarchy, the people that you vote for will absolutely always be beholden to other people who have leverage (or to third-party powers like corporations), which is why we have such unequal outcomes in our society. The exception, of course, is when you vote for a politician that has a very specific stance on a very specific issue (such as maintaining the permanent residency or visa system, or abortion). They might be able to bring about a very specific policy change, but the reach of that change is unlikely to be pervasive. We need to focus more on prefiguration, which is an anarchist principle that emphasizes building new systems in the shell of the old. In order to ensure equity, the means of bringing about that equity have to be analogous to the ends, because both are inherently tied up in one another. As a consequence, if you want true social equity, you must work through a system that is designed for that purpose, or it will not work. Politicians who work through the current system might fool themselves into thinking that they are affecting substantial change, but if you look at the social situation in our country, it is clear that their methods thus far have been ineffective, and even dangerous. We all complain about the current system, but we have to realize that we are the ones responsible for rebuilding it from the ground up if we don't like it. This can only happen through grass roots organizations and solidarity with other people in the community. The momentum cannot come from anywhere else, least of all from a government that is committed to maintaining the status quo. Anyway, great podcast! I wrote a novel in this comment.

Not only do lots of the hard right replace love with anger (rage addiction?), their “humor” is usually shallow, grade school level and calculated to denigrate its object. Women couldn't get a credit card or open a bank account without a man co-signing until 1974 and couldn't get a business loan without a man co-signing until 1988!
First of all, thank you for pushing back on some of the privileged take while continuing the dialogue, and before I start my rant, I definitely don’t think you have a trivial understanding of the world in general Gianmarco for sure. But blaming poor people for “voting against your best interests” convo was a tad tired. It is a bit similar in some ways to blaming black or Palestinian people for not voting democrat, frankly she was implying that as well. This country is very big, simplifying things to this level is not helping you understand or help people to ally with you. It just is a energy venting thing from privileged liberals at this point at best, and bullying people in-line at worst. If it is just venting ok. fine, but as fact that is not the full picture of the situation in America.
ty for this comment i was so like oof at her saying the burn it all down take is a privileged take + the f*ck you lolol and i wanted to say something but people do not like to interact in good faith in yt comments. like i think it Can be a privileged take and i also think multiple things can be true at once, and just was not vibing with that generalization
It’s funny because at this point, I think it’s selfish to not want to burn it all down. Like what, truly, is worth salvaging? So many people are suffering-here and abroad-so desperately that I think it takes a fairly out of touch person to feel like it’s worth salvaging.
Just on the whole thing about a teacher losing a child, that happened in my high school. I was in year 7, and it was our PE teacher. I'm a fat guy, I was a fat kid. I hated PE, and I hated her. One of her children died after drowning in a billabong. And you know why I'm never gonna forget that? Because, when I first heard it, I said: "Good." To this day, I can't believe such malice came out of me. Me hating a class and the death of a child are so NOT the same thing, and like I never said this to her face, obviously, but just knowing I said something so truly evil and hateful and lacking in compassion just makes me ill. I'll chalk it down to the naivety and lack of experience of youth, but my god. I don't cringe at the memory, by the way, I just know my initial reaction was one born out of a selfish, ignorant place, and I guess I'm "cursed" to remember it for all time to keep me in check and make sure I'm compassionate and give people room. Point being, 100% agreeing with Busy here, you REMEMBER that shit. That is NOT something with which you skimp out on details.
To the conversation at 25:00. I always find it chilling that in Germany after the allied forces had taken over the concentration camps, gay people were transfered to prisons for their gay actions, because that was still concidered illegal by the law of the liberal democratic government put in place by the allied forces. The point in time is always portraied as a paradigm shift, which it in some many ways is, but the world was still such an awful place for so many people living under the white christian patriarchy. It's unimaginable that you think finally it's over and the same people freeing jews around you imprison you further
@25:50 It was actually that women couldn't open any bank account without a male's signature. I heard a story of a woman who said because her dad died she had to get her younger brother to do it. Another woman I heard say she wanted to get a mortgage and had to get her ex-husband to sign for her as a male authority in her life.
47:00 I never had someone close to me die or went to a funeral that I remembered until recently and THIS!! I felt that to my core, I never was religious but i'm always open minded when people talk to me about their beliefs. But yeah a catholic funeral had nothing to do with my familymember who just died, it felt like sucking god's dick for an hour and that was it. I didn't get to mourn and I felt more emotionally exhausted after. I wanted to grieve at the funeral and I felt like i wasn't able to at all. It just felt like I went to church and listened to a sermon than attend a funeral for someone i cared about. So him saying it just "emotionally dead" its so accurate.
good episode! as an anti-zionist jewish voter, i remember discussing with a liberal friend during the 2020 election about voting for biden as a harm reduction candidate. my friend insisted we should vote in biden, despite his flaws, because trump is worse (which is true) and we could push biden left on issues that matter. i didnt vote for biden because of his racist history. then he got into office, he overfunded the police, adopted much of trump’s immigration policy and fueled the most abhorrent gcide my generation has ever seen. and there was nothing anyone could do to “push him left” because he was already in office. thats why i cannot vote for harris unless she guarantees an immediate arms embargo to the zionist state. committing gcide is not just a simple imperfection, it’s literally the worst thing anyone can possibly do. edit: the reason im saying this is because i think there are some people who dont know why someone with left wing values would not vote for harris amidst the current conditions. this lack of understanding can lead to misconceptions about why we feel the way we do and i want harris voters to better understand where people like myself are coming from. much love to everyone in this episode and everyone reading this.
Sometimes we have to choose the lesser of two bads. Trump woild be worse. Remember he moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Hartis needs every vote. The perfect progressive eill NOT GET ELECTED when thry still need crntrists and some conservative voters to get elected. Where I live they are right of Trump. So her comment about oening a gun was IMPORTANT to traditionalists.
@@planningpersonlaidbackdeep1273 no. i will never be complicit in gcide. i understand where harris voters like yourself are coming from and why you choose to vote for her, but i cannot vote for her unless she meets the bar of not being a gcide enabler (the bar is in hell at this point, deeper than the 9th layer).
@@coopquitetired I sympathize with your struggle but the truth is we have all been forced to be complicit in genocide, from taxes to commodities that all fund, if not israel then other genocides, i think to remove yourself from the reality of these things puts an unachievable innocence. We will probably never have the scope to see all the harm and good we cause but pretending that not voting for any party makes you not complicit in genocide is an unfortunate fantasy. Harm reduction and attempts at moving forward is all we can do.
@@orchidlover222 i already explained my past experiences with “harm reduction” and how i’ve seen it be proven as a false concept as biden’s admin has come along. try telling the thousands of dead Palestinians and their loved ones that harm reduction works. it is true that one of the most pernicious aspects of capitalist imperialism is that it makes it’s citizens unwilling participants because to not participate means to be dead (because having a job is necessary to live and paying tax is necessary to being employed). but to willfully acknowledge this evil and still volunteer yourself to either of the two evil parties is worse than being an ignorant participant. the first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge it, but to acknowledge it and still be a part of the problem is actively taking steps backwards
@@orchidlover222 i already explained my past experiences with harm reduction and how i’ve seen it be proven as a false idea as biden’s admin has come along. the idea of appealing to a broader moderate center by voting for a “harm reduction” candidate is what Martin Luther King Jr was warning us about when he spoke of the dangers of white moderates who move progress too slowly. i agree that one of the most wicked aspects of capitalist imperialism is that it forces it’s citizens to become unwilling participants because you must work to live and must pay taxes to work. but no one is forcing you to vote for anyone. our inherently undemocratic and broken system will not be fixed by begrudgingly participating in a “democracy” that you yourself do not even agree with. the first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge it, but to acknowledge it and continue along with it is actively becoming a part of the problem, not solving it. i agree in voting for progressive leftists down ballot but it is going to take a lot more than just voting to fix this country.
"Are any men (monogamous)?" Yes, wholeheartedly yes. My Great grandfather was the most faithful and loyal man, to both his wives (his first wife left him while he was at war, because, and I quote, "The man was too damn nice, he made me feel like a monster all the time. I would get mad for some stupid reason, and he would just look sad and apologize and go work in the garden. It made me want to scream. I needed someone who could give me back a little of the anger I gave him, so I didn't feel like I was sleeping with an angel in my bed." He was with his second wife for 60 years. (He was also, apparently as I never knew this until he died, an extremely Christian man. An elder in his church, he ran their money, was heavily involved in the day to day running of it. Never once preached to me or my Wiccan/Pagan mother.) My grandfather, also loyal to my grandmother (one of the truly mad children of my great grandfather). Never looked at another woman, even though my grandmother was certifiably nuts. He loved her, and didn't know what to do with her. Stood by her there whole marriage. When she died suddenly in her 50's he never even considered getting with another woman. He lived another 32 years, and she was in an urn on his bedside that whole time. These guys were not the exception. It's way more normal than it seems. Though, of course, there's _plenty_ who are not built for monogamy. And even a "good" man isn't always the perfect partner (look at my Great Grandfather, imagine being so nice your wife can't stand to live with you).

I love how unapologetically liberal this podcast is. Every time someone goes on a left wing rant I go 🎉 internally. Disappointed we couldn't participate in the moment of silence witb your dad though 😔
Her response to the Palestine topic left a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunate as I was a busy fan growing up, I guess there's some levels of conditioning and indoctrination Americans can't escape.
literally!! like how is it privileged? the same people fighting for Palestinians emancipation are the same people being oppressed in so many other ways by the establishment as a whole. So of course they're gonna say fuck the dems, when the dems are the only option as a counter balance to republicans.

Why the fuck it matter how long is his set? Is there any of his material in his set? Or only the crowd work? Yeah, the venue is at fault that a standup comic can't write a joke so people have to provoke him for a crowd work video.
There’s absolutely no reason not to pressure Kamala AFTER electing her. You can before too, but pretending you must beforehand like there’s some ‘deadline’ is just silly & ignorant to the reality our country faces. That’s the privilege Busy is talking about.
Especially during a first term-you obviously want to be reelected… but I’ve been in her office as an EO and seen how feedback is so genuinely considered. We don’t get to shame one group for ‘voting against their own interests’ and then let others off so easy. Unfortunately, we’re all stuck here in actual reality.
The thing is - the run up to the election is the only time any pressure can realistically be brought to bear on Harris to change her positions. Once the election is done Harris either isn't in the job or securely is, and thus voters have no leverage for at least a couple of years.
i don't think the Muslims and Arabs who have been pressuring Kamala at rallies are "privileged" lol that was the one comment of her's that was ridiculous. because her class always does the same things, they don't pay attention to the turmoil that goes on under a blue president because it's easier to tell themselves that blue means everything is fine. and then when election year comes around, these people come out of the woodwork and try to tell poor people and young people and specific populations how they should vote. i mean how is THAT not the privilege? telling Arabs and their allies that its privileged to not capitulate and vote for someone who wants to continue supporting plausible genocide? 17,000 children dead and the people who aren't willing to vote for that are privileged? i mean are you guys even looking at what the "privileged" people you speak of are saying? that's the thing, you aren't
@@mccall5473 this take is really really naive in my opinion. if you're familiar with how many promises dems make versus how many of them they actually meaningfully follow through on, then you know that once a party is in office all actual leverage the people have is gone for the next 3 years. that's a pretty basic thing to understand. one of the only Palestinians working in the admin had to quit because he knew he wasn't being listened to. but paying attention to that, or the fact that Palestinians were BLOCKED from speaking at the DNC.. paying attention to that is just "privileged"? it doesn't seem like privileged people (all of us here, esp the guest) actually know what the word means

No matter how awesome I get at making space robots, nobody's offering me a table at a random restaurant 😂
Gianmarco wasn’t lying when saying his father was a Casanova. Typical 80s Fox, of the Clooney variety 😹🩵

When you clowns are talking about “burn it all down” what does that mean and what do you think it will accomplish?
@@gorgejung307 You sound nice.
@@aricurtis1365 so you won’t or can’t answer my question? Tell me your burn it all down fantasy and what it would accomplish in your mind.
Because, when I first heard it, I said: "Good."
To this day, I can't believe such malice came out of me.
Yall got Busy!?!?

Never learned this in school 😢
Never once preached to me or my Wiccan/Pagan mother.)
My grandfather, also loyal to my grandmother (one of the truly mad children of my great grandfather).

Her response to the Palestine topic left a bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunate as I was a busy fan growing up, I guess there's some levels of conditioning and indoctrination Americans can't escape.
Indoctrination huh? Like being able to ignore 40,000 civilians killed?
literally!! like how is it privileged? the same people fighting for Palestinians emancipation are the same people being oppressed in so many other ways by the establishment as a whole. So of course they're gonna say fuck the dems, when the dems are the only option as a counter balance to republicans.
Gainmarco always ends up talking about himself 🤡😂

@@mccall5473 so what feedback was considered to the extent that it changed actual policy if you don't mind me asking?
