For real though, if you are queer and thinking about telling your mormon parents I highly recommend testing their reactions to various things first. Remember, YOU DO NOT OWE YOUR PARENTS THE TRUTH if you suspect that they will hurt you with it. I you suspect that they are going to react negatively to you coming out the best thing for you to do is build a community of outside your family and move out when you are eighteen. For the lady trying to support her niece I recommend asking the niece how she would like the aunt to navigate the situation. She should continue giving her niece the resources that she needs, discreetly if she suspects that the dad with cut contact with her. Chances are if the dad is still close with her even after she left the church, he might be more willing for his daughter to come out as well. This is all coming from a queer person who grew up in the church. God I wish I knew that I didn’t have to tell my parents everything when I was a kid.

I’m also exmormon and I must add a correction. Mormons in the olden days (and some fringe ones now) were not into polyamory they were into polygamy, very different things and as a non monogamous exmormon this confusion always irks me😂. Polygamy is where a man would have multiple wives, the wives aren’t allowed to be romantic/sexual with eachother or have multiple husbands. The founder of the church Joseph smith had child brides as young as 14 and married already married women while their husbands were on missions, he also pressured one of the underage brides into marrying him by telling her god would be mad at her if she didn’t. With polyamory if it’s being done respectfully it’s any partners of any genders having as many partners as they’re comfortable with and all of it is consensual. With mormon polygamy some women do it even when they weren’t actually comfortable because the fear of not following what god called them to do made them feel pressured to do it. Basically the rules of polyamory are flexible from relationship to relationship but with polygamy it’s like according to god you must be perfectly okay with your husband marrying as many other women (and possibly children) as he wants or you are not truly faithful or whatever
Well... Mormon polygamy might be like that but polyamory is everything from threesomes to marriage but polygamy in itself is ritualistically (marriage, relationship, domestic partnership) binding yourself to more than one person, how somebody interpreted that to mean "man marry many, woman stay in her own room" is beyond me. Kibbutz in Israel often have polygamous relationships, and guys have multiple wives and ladies have multiple husbands.
@@kaingatespolygyny/polygamy is a form of polyamory, which is the practice of taking multiple lovers at once. We just saw you in Chicago this Friday. It was an amazing show! My girlfriend's and my cheeks hurt from all the laughter. I've been a longtime Downside listener, and from the amount of laughter and excitement my girlfriend had, you've definitely made a new fan! Thank you for the signed moist or crunchy towel! Plus the in-person eyebrow update. Enjoy your time here in Chicago. Keep up the excellent work.
I really enjoy the way you interact with the audience. You're a master at dealing with interruptions in a way that enhances the show. I'm sure you end up with hecklers now and then who are way over the line, and the sheer amount of interruptions probably can be frustrating, but I've seen other comics get hot under the collar if anyone in the audience says *anything*. You make it part of the act, and that makes watching your work far more enjoyable.
There are two kinds of religious people: Those who accept the logic of the religion and apply it consistently, and Those who reject the BS parts (bigotry, favoritism of bloodlines, etc) for what they are while still clinging to the "good" parts (help the poor, help the sick love your neighbor, etc). Only one of those is deluded...and it's not the second one, because only the first one accepts the religion for what it is while the second has to make excuses for why the BS parts were "okay back then but not today" (as though their deity's laws and morality and sense of justice/mercy depend on what the people normalize...but somehow also not because look at these extreme actions against the people doing the things). That also applies to extremists; there wouldn't be anything to be "extreme" about if the religion didn't have those BS parts and wasn't based on hierarchy and punishment of the sinner/heathen/etc. Imagine if "holy books" were full of teachings of full equality, full democracy, and pro-social relationships with all people. But that would make people harder to control... I'm also an ex-Mormon. The self-loathing and fear of eternal punishment for even the most minor things is enough to break a person's spirit and create massive stress/trauma. I'm pretty anti-religion these days, but Abrahamic religions hold a special place of disgust in my heart.
PSA talking about Mormons, Dan McClellan is not only open minded and a caring person but also a strong supporter of lgbtq rights. He’s a scholar of the Bible who is on social media spreading knowledge about biblical scholarship and combating disinformation on the same. If are interested in how homosexuality and sexuality in general was viewed in the Bible original context, pls check his videos on the topic. They are short, succinct and clear.
It's definitely not Utah, I was about to comment the same until I heard the audience say "she's in Utah" and he said "ok I'll come to Utah" (paraphrasing)
Actual advice for people in this situation: don’t come out to your family if you don’t feel safe to do so. It’s okay to wait. Until you are financially secure, until you have a supportive friend group, until you have health insurance that covers therapy. Whatever it is you need to feel and be safe - do that.
it’s cool that tiktok has exposed more people to standup comedy and helped a lot of comics grow their fanbases… but it’s also led to a huge influx of insufferable, terminally Main Character Syndrome afflicted audiences haha

His joke was about polyandry and polygyny though.
@sickregret yeah but he used the term polyamory
There are two kinds of religious people:
Those who accept the logic of the religion and apply it consistently, and
Those who reject the BS parts (bigotry, favoritism of bloodlines, etc) for what they are while still clinging to the "good" parts (help the poor, help the sick love your neighbor, etc).
Why the hell is a practicing mormon at a Gianmarco Soresi show? That tiktok and youtube reach it crazy!
As someone who was raised Mormon, this is one of the funniest bits I've seen on it so far.
I have tickets to your show in Utah coming up! You have like 4 of them though and who knows if I'll be in the one for this update 😂
Gianmarco's straightest clips would be like me only going to to second base with my boyfriend
Lmao, the last joke was perfect - gonna retell it someday
4:42 absolute missed chance to go 🎵hello!
RIGHT? His theater kid card is in jeopardy
where was this clip filmed??? Utah???
From what I can gather it looks like it's Tucson.
It's definitely not Utah, I was about to comment the same until I heard the audience say "she's in Utah" and he said "ok I'll come to Utah" (paraphrasing)
Yup I was at the show. Tucson, AZ
Tuscon Arizoña? Hometown of Jackie Daytona?
Oh man I can’t wait for you to come to west valley
I’m coming to your show in January and I go to BYU but I’m not a member (secretly).
all i cud think about this entire video was "turn it off" by book of mormon cant wait to see the musical live
Trans exmormon here, funny afffff
Can't believe that woman didn't own up to being a practicing mormon when he asked smh, hubby had to snitch
i love how people come to your shows for the therapy
Sometimes when I watch Gianmarco’s videos, I wonder where is the line between a stand-up comedy show and group therapy XD
"cute kid, no pedo!" Was gold
If you want to listen to the same type of stories but for three hours and cry several times during, go check out the Mormon stories podcast
that first boo was amazing... 😂😂😂😂
in complete awe of your ability to diffuse the tension
Absolute perfection.
That last joke tho :D
I loved the ex-mormon counter that was so funny!
Ohhhh The timing on that boo was so amazing
Love the "we're gonna be nice" 😂😂
The last point was pretty valid lol 😂
Actual advice for people in this situation: don’t come out to your family if you don’t feel safe to do so. It’s okay to wait.
Until you are financially secure, until you have a supportive friend group, until you have health insurance that covers therapy. Whatever it is you need to feel and be safe - do that.
That last one lol. I'll use that one from now on
i love being ex mormon man
This is the community meetings we all need
Honestly went into this clip waiting for Gianmarco to lift his shirt like that one time lol
"That's a huge assumption" woman has clearly never been dedicated to Mormonism
the music at the end is pretty cool, nice bass
Idc what anyone says "Cute kid, no pedo" is HILARIOUS
Lovely treat at the end
1:37 "you're assuming"
You're PREsuming.
I love this so much!
Can't wait to see you in SLC
😂
Hey Gianmarco Sores, did you have any plans to do a show in europe? I would love to see you live :)
I think my favorite part was the Ex-Mormon / Mormon Counter ™ XD
Where did this show take place?
No, it ended there! 😭
okay, you NEED to watch Book of Mormon. please. “Turn it off! Like a lightswitch!”
it’s cool that tiktok has exposed more people to standup comedy and helped a lot of comics grow their fanbases… but it’s also led to a huge influx of insufferable, terminally Main Character Syndrome afflicted audiences haha
1:05 @blurred out person - Get your brother to read the CES letter
Need to blur her shirt too pretty sure i would recognize that lol
Wait so this show was NOT in utah? Where is this exmo haven?
Tucson, AZ
Gianmarco you gotta learn to tell these folks to shaddap
ex-mormon convention or, as some call it, gianmarco soresi standup show. bring your mormons with you!
