I think we should all remember that this jet's origins date back to 1968 (nearly 50 years ago) for those mathematically challenged . Also that it was designed as an interceptor and not a pure dog fighter and the fact that only a few of the latest designs are now beating it should speak volumes about the design and longevity of this aircraft.

Interceptors had proven useless in a dogfight and the U.S. Air Force needed something that a pure bred dogfighter. The F-15A and C models are 100% dedicated to dogfighting.
That's not what the results from combat exercises and F-22 pilots tell us. Stealth wins most of the time. Along with vectored thrust nozzles and canard tails. In actual combat encounters, the F-15's record was an unparalleled 100 to 0, but we live in a different era now. In my opinion, the F-15 is one of the most beautiful aircraft of all time. Along with the B-58 Hustler and F-16.
No way love f15 but no match for f22. Many mock battles 8 f15s against one f22 all f15 were shot down. It's more than just stealth battle space awareness with avionics technology is crazy.
Why mess with the F-15? Like why bother? With a trained USAF fighter pilot at the controls, you're a dead man walking if you try an intercept. He'll either outrun you or shoot you down within 30 seconds.

For the 1st 10 years of Europhoon service the F-15 had equivalent air to air combat skills because of it's greater variation of air to air missiles and far superior radar. The Europhoon has only recently caught up. Not bad for an airframe first penned in 1966. 4 years before I was born!!! The Europhoon was and is a Euro born financial disaster of a narrow role aeroplane. The F-15 is the greatest aeroplane the RAF never had. Simples!
muppetrolf I would try and argue but the F-15E has always been my favourite American jet of all time mostly due to Lakenheath being around, but the typhoon is a great aircraft might not be a great attack aircraft but is definitely a great fighter with new tranche 3 and hopefully in the future the Ej-200 engine upgrade. I just detest the politics that gave birth to these machines. Especially when I know Britain and France can do better without European interference. In fact France proved this with Rafale. The Rafale is a modern day Buccaneer. A jet scoffed at by EADS but one that is capable of anything anywhere. Rafale or F/A Super Hornet would have been bargains in the face of Europhoon. And the Eurocrats never give in do they? A400M bag of spanners. Augusta/Westland 101 (Merlin) huge cost and many design flaws which were corrected by Lockheed Martin! The long winded development of the Tornado. By the way. In American excersises years ago, Tornado crews used to joke they could blow past the F/A18 with there gloriously powerful engines. But what then? If they'd faced actual combat with any of the US "teen" jets, they would have been ripped apart in seconds, before their radar knew what was happening. Europhoon has finally come of age but at crippling expense and in an era when it's about to be out of date. And the sad footnote for the RAF is the fact they couldn't afford the 240+ they wanted and ended up with today barely 100 fully operational at any one time. Nowhere near enough for any prolonged campaign. Yes I love Lakenheath. Have yet to visit the Raptor though.
