I just found your channel and found your video on Jan van Eyck The Annunciation fascinating. I am just starting to learn about art and am curious about the hidden meaning in Robert Campin The Nativity and also The Adoration of the Christ Child, follower of Jan Joest ca. 1515

About the northern renaissance, I would add that this didn't solely include Flanders, but also Spain. There was a cross-fertilisation. Flanders belonged to Spain in those days, and e.g. Zurbaran of Spain painted in the same style. BTW I live in Ghent and have a great interest in the Mystic Lamb by Van Eyck. This is the most renown piece of art of the northern renaissance, together with the "Descent from the cross" by Vander Weyden.

Absolutely, cross-fertilization seems to be what keeps art evolving. I dream of visiting Ghent, the Northern artists are my favorites, and I find myself getting lost when I start exploring one of their works. I have only a surface knowledge of the Mystic Lamb, but it is on my list of works to learn more about. Thank you so much for commenting.
