    How things have changed ! My Dad was a captain for TWA and retired in 1975 . I spent most of my earlier days traveling around the country with him. A coast to coast, 5 hour trip non stop resulted in an overnight layover, and 85 hours per month flight time. You guys have it rough now, and should be praised for your love of flight. We thank you all for the service so needed by modern society. Good luck, and be safe. The spirit of our Lord be beneath your wings, you're runways always too long, your altitude too high, and the plane never fail.

    SPOT ON! This is precisely what I ( and many others) have been looking for. The shot of the sunset at 6:00 was so well done and one of my favorite sights to view while in the air. And yes, those midwest winters can be cold and cruel. The addition of the 'information bubbles' were an upgrade above many others vids. Stay healthy, fly safe and we too all shall make it through this pandemic. Once again a great example of someone doing what he is passionate about, is quite good at it and has a slice of artistry within.

    As someone who works in the aviation industry myself, these times are madness. My home airport London Heathrow is pretty much dead. Single runway ops, shut down 2 out of 4 terminals, planes parked everywhere.
    On the other hand, our cargo planes are jam packed, even the additional A330F is packed.

    Hey Swayne,
    Could you make a video outlining the uniform requirements of an airline pilot. Eg. how your company issues uniforms + what you must wear at each stage/location/time.

    • @mdickinson
      @mdickinson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's pretty simple, really. (I'm a pilot at a different regional airline, but it's pretty similar from company to company.)
      A couple days after you start work, they measure you and order your uniform, which in our case was
      - 4 white shirts with epaulettes (i chose 2 short sleeve, 2 long sleeve)
      - 2 pairs of black uniform pants
      - 2 black neckties
      - 1 black uniform blazer with 3 stripes on the sleeve (3 stripes denotes a first officer, 4 denotes a captain)
      - 1 pair of epaulette sleeves (3 stripes; worn on the shirt)
      Every new pilot had to buy the above (and supply their own black belt, black shoes, and black socks). There were also a few optional items which some of us ordered: an airline pilot hat; an overcoat; a black sweater with epaulettes; and/or a leather jacket like the one the captain is wearing in this video.
      At my airline, the company paid half of the cost of the initial uniform (about $600) and the rest was deducted from our first paycheck. The company gives you two metal wings (one pair worn on the shirt and one on the blazer)
      Uniform wear rules are pretty similar from company to company, and are spelled out in the company's operations manual. You must wear the uniform when you are operating a flight. You can optionally wear it during your commute to work; some pilots commute in their uniform and others change into it when they get to the airport.

    • @bahenbihen
      @bahenbihen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mdickinson My airline has pretty similar standards, however, I never had to pay for anything and I'm shocked there are airlines that charge for uniforms. Also we are supposed to cover our uniform if wearing it during a commute, but no one does that.
      Referring to the original question: yes, there's like a 10 page document about uniform guidelines, but nobody is bothered enough to read the whole thing. Company got pretty pissed by the relatively new trend of flight crews wearing funny colored socks on duty, so these guidelines update way too frequently.

    This film highlights just what it's like. I fly Citation bizjets around Europe and it is repetitive. In and out of cabs, hotels, night away in a foreign country etc. But it's those small wins in the Jet. Seeing the sun set from 40,000ft or cloud surfing your way up to the cruise. Its a brilliant job with some great highlights.

    I know you probably won’t ever see this comment, but I just wanted to say thank you. I’m 17. I’ve always wanted to be a pilot, I’ve started to work towards my PPL 2 years ago, but gave up. I’m gay, and the industry scared me. I didn’t discover your videos until months later, and then decided to work towards it again. I never realized how accepting this industry really could be. I’m now going to Auburn next fall and will work towards my dream of being a pilot in their flight program. Thank you. I seriously just gave up on this, and you really motivated me. ☺️

      Most pilots arrive at a regional airline relatively young (age 24-39) and stay there just long enough to get the required hours to get hired at a major airline. But some pilots like their position at the regional and stay there for their entire careers!
